Following on from the successful creation and production of two sets of models, one of which was funded through Kickstarter, we are embarking on the next phase of our model range; the Knight House Engineer.
Our first model, the Knight House Envoy, was created offline (outside of Kickstarter) with the intention of it being an event model available for Tournament/Event Organisers throughout 2018.
The model was designed by Dark Wolf Studios, who also designed this to keep some aesthetic similarities but still make it unique.
The second model project was to create a set of Unarmoured Marines to use as objectives, dioramas and other creative purposes. Originally aiming to create three unique poses we were able to expand this to five individual poses and also two different sizes thanks to the great support we received from the backers. These models were designed by the crew over at Nuclear Shrimp, who we are currently working with on another project (or two) with us.
They will be doing the production run on this project.
The artwork, like all of our previous projects, was done exclusively by Mary Spence Illustrations. She is an excellent artist to work with who is interested in the hobby and produces awesome results.
With the experiences and support from those previous two projects we felt we were ready to embark on our third model and hopefully begin a tradition of creating a new model each year which TO/EO's can use as prizes and event swag for their events players. The Engineer will come in two poses, one which will be for reserved for Event orders and the other which will be for individual orders, this is to try and maintain some exclusivity for the Event models but still give people an opportunity to buy a variant of the model if they don't think they will attend an event which will have the model.
Due to the timing of the completion of the 3D model and the proximity to Christmas we elected to hold off the launch of the project late last year but we continued to work on it. Because of this we have actually progressed through from a completed 3D model to a master mold and a limited first cast of the models. This is going to greatly accelerate the fulfillment of the project and also gives you, the backers, an opportunity to see the model in resin, not just a digital render.
The current range of models available to the Individual pledges are shown below. Any combination of these models may be selected in your pledge.
EVENT SUPPORT PLEDGES
All Event Support pledges have access to all of the above models in addition to the Event Exclusive variant of the Knight House Engineer, at least half of the models in an Event Support Pledge must be the Engineer.
To accompany this model TO/EO's can also access products from our previous projects to add onto their pledges. While this is geared towards TO/EO's, Backers making individual orders can also do this to grab the Envoy and Unarmoured Marines or even a set of personal dog tags.
These were the second models we produced and funded through Kickstarter in late 2017. They comprise of 5 uniquely posed models without powered armour, intended to represent prisoners of war stripped of their protection. They come in two sizes, regular and extra large, the latter is line with the Primaris sized models.
Individuals can add a set of these to their pledge for $44 for the regular size or $49 for the extra large (normally $49/$54 respectively).
Event Organisers can add individual models (a minimum of ten) to their pledges for $7.50 each or $8 each for the extra large size. These pledges will contain an even (as much as possible) distribution of the five different poses.
Custom Embossed Dog Tags
Our Dog Tags are our original event swag item. Funded through Kickstarter back in January 2016, we used the project to purchase a dog tag embossing machine which allows us to stamp US tags with text. In addition to that we also get the tags laser etched with various images to suit the order. Events can get their logo burnt onto the back or watermarked on the front (or both for a small surcharge) and individuals can get their favorite armies icon.
Each tag can be embossed with up to five lines of text, each line capable of having up to 15 characters (including spaces).
Individuals can add a personal army tag set to their pledge for $20, this includes two tags, embossed text and laser etched images on both sides, plus chains.
Event Organisers can add event tags to their pledge for $5 each (minimum ten tags) which includes a single tag with the same text and a single logo on each tag.
In the event that the project funds over and above the goal we have two Stretch Goals planned;
$2,000 - Cloaked Stranger Models UNLOCKED
The three Cloaked Stranger models will be made available for add ons and options for various pledges.
$3,000 - Unit Reference Card
Each Knight House Engineer (Individual and Event pledges), Envoy and Cloaked Stranger will be accompanied by a unit reference card containing the models custom rules and statistics.
$4,000 - Name Plates for Individual Orders
Each Knight House Envoy and Engineer in the Individual pledges will be accompanied by a custom 32mm name plate produced by Versatile Terrain.
Like many projects before us we have been stung by the price rises of international postage. Because of this we have had to move the shipping cost component to the pledge manager stage shortly before fulfillment. Currently the costs post to international destinations are listed below, with luck this will not change between now and the fulfillment stage.
Up to 500g: $15 (around two dozen models)
North America, Western Europe, Asia and the Pacific
Up to 250g: $15 (around a dozen models)
Up to 500g: $20 (around two dozen models)
Rest of the world
Up to 250g: $15 (around a dozen models)
Up to 500g: $25 (around two dozen models)
*: unless requested, we will attempt to pack as many models into blisters as possible. If you request a 1:1 ratio of model per blister, this may result in a higher shipping cost.
Risks and challenges
This will be our third project creating a model along with the trials and tribulations of production and distribution. We have worked closely with both 3rd parties involved in this particular project and are confident that we have ironed out any teething problems from the previous experiences.
The model itself has been fully designed already and as the project goes live the master has been printed and is in preparation for the mold creation. This will significantly speed up the production time, although it did require a lot more up front investment.
The major hiccup which we encountered on the last Kickstarter project was the international distribution. This came about from relying on a courier who had assured us that they would have rolled out international pickup to our location in time for our fulfillment. This did not happen and so were forced to instead ship the individual parcels in a single bulk lot to a secondary pickup location from where they were then dispatched. This caused some delays in the 2nd and 3rd wave for international backers.
We have taken steps to prevent this from occurring again with alternative courier contracts and other methods for distribution.
