In the Achtung! Cthulhu universe, a band of Allied heroes fight the Secret War against the Nazi Black Sun and their rivals Nachtwolfe. The Nazi factions have turned to the ancient and terrible powers of the Mythos, weaponizing evil to win the war. This move is starting to yield results as, powered with ancient secrets and terrible Mythos allies, Black Sun and Nachtwolfe are on the verge of unleashing terrible weapons upon the Allied forces. It is your job to stop them - by any means necessary.
Let's give our troops in the field the kit they need to get the job done!
It's very easy to become a backer and join the Secret War!

In the spirit of Allied cooperation, Auroch Digital has teamed with the creators of Achtung! Cthulhu, Modiphius and indie publisher Ripstone to bring this award-winning tabletop RPG to a computer screen near you! Auroch Digital is developing the digital game which Ripstone will publish, while Modiphius are supplying the Achtung! Cthulhu setting and are also fulfilling all orders for Achtung! Cthulhu rules, miniatures and merchandise.
Ripstone have been amazingly supportive and are funding the single player game for release in Q4 2018. However, there’s much more we want to add to the game! We want you to join us in the next phase of the Secret War in raising some extra war bonds to make Achtung! Cthulhu even more amazing. Over the last five years since the original Achtung! Cthulhu RPG smashed its goals on Kickstarter the team at Modiphius have created lots and lots of great characters for the setting. For us to add them all takes a lot more time and resources; for each unit our team need to make a set of boned 3D meshes, new animations and more. We've got the core sorted and locked down but we really need the Pathfinder Demon Hunters to enter the fray! These elite spiritual Native American warriors bring a mixture of ancient knowledge and modern day firepower into the fight that the Allied heroes desperately need.
With your support we’ll be able to get these amazing warriors created digitally and into the game. Your backing may also allow you to get behind the scenes view on the development of the game, to chat with the development team and offer your thoughts, to grab some great original Achtung! Cthulhu merch and much more!
In Achtung! Cthulhu the evil of the Nazis meets the boundless malice of the The Great Old Ones in a battle set against the backdrop of World War II. The online portal for all things Achtung! Cthulhu is here. There are some great free downloads that can get you started such as ‘A Rude Awakening’ - a free audio adventure. There is also a PDF about some of the heroes of Achtung! Cthulhu - Tales from the Crucible which you can grab from here.
Together we’re creating a turn-based strategy game that draws from the Achtung! Cthulhu roleplaying game universe. In it, the player will control a tough band of heroes trapped behind enemy lines trying to uncover and foil a Nazi plot of terrifying evil. This core game is going to be an amazing turn-based strategy RPG game with the right mix of tactics, story and action. We’ve happy to say this has already funded by indie publisher Ripstone and most of the tiers will give you a copy of the game on PC. We’ve been working with them and Modiphius to create a layer of unique gameplay systems, a host of levels, lots of weapons and a new narrative interlinked into the Secret War. There is lots of amazing info we want to share with you on this and backers will get exclusives and news before anyone else!
There are a host of unique features. As well as the setting of Achtung! Cthulhu, we’re taking the themes of light and darkness representing the pulp battle of 'good and evil' and translating it into fabric of the strategic gameplay. Allied characters are the goodies and they work best in the light. The Nazis and most Mythos creatures are things of evil and darkness. They want to drag us into their night. By using the light and the darkness, a skilled player can enhance the power of a burst of machine gun fire or the stab of a bayonet to provide an edge to good old allied steel!Equally make sure that your party does not become separated and that the enemy does not pull one of your team into the dark, where their evil weapons, talons, and tentacles are all the more potent! We’ve been playtesting this system, which we call ‘light and dark’, which adds extra tactical dimensions!
As well as this we’ve created a unique and powerful system where the momentum of your actions opens new lines of tactical attack. Inspired by Modiphius’ proven 2d20 roleplaying system (Conan, Star Trek Adventures, Infinity, John Carter of Mars) we have created something fun and adapted it for video games. When an attack succeeds, thanks to sterling leadership, the player builds a pool of momentum, which can then be weaponised! All characters have special momentum actions they can perform - a rake of machine gun fire, a fast snap-shot with a pistol, a mysterious ethereal effect. The system allows you to control this, layering it with the normal actions of your team to build ingenious combinations of tactical brilliance rivalling Monty, Zhukov, Rommel, or Patton. There is much more to reveal, and backers of the game will get updates on progress, including some exclusive classified intel before anyone else, so if you want to be in the know, you know what to do!
If the project is successfully backed we’ll be able to add the heroic Pathfinder Demonhunters into the game, adding a valuable unit for commanders seeking to turn the Nazi and Mythos tide! This means we’ll be able to create the game-ready 3D meshes (high and low poly), the bones, texture, rig them for animation, and create the animations themselves. It is a big ask, but the Secret War is a big campaign.
Let us introduce you to the team creating the video game and those supporting them;
The video game design is being led by Tomas Rawlings. A veteran game designer, he’s also a lifelong Cthulhu fan. He was the the creator of The Dark Mirror monograph for Chaosium and the designer of Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land which won a bunch of awards including Winner Mobile Game of The Year 2012 (HorribleNight.com), Winner 2012 Best Smartphone or Tablet Game (DigitallyDownloaded), 1 of 7 Best Strategy Games on iPad (TechShout) and Best Cthulhu Game on Mobile (Appszoom). They are all experienced, knowledgeable and have successfully delivered multiple PC video games over the years. When the time comes to take the shot, they won’t hesitate to pull the trigger!
The Modiphius brigade supporting this mission are the team who founded Achtung! Cthulhu five years ago this very month. Led by the originator of the whole thing, and the founder of Modiphius, Chris Birch. Chris ran video games fashion label Joystick Junkies for 13 years and before that worked in the dance music industry managing bands, tours, and clubnights. Chris first played D&D and Steve Jackson's OGRE aged 9 and grew up on a diet of RPGs, wargames and boardgames before writing Starblazer Adventures and founding Modiphius to pursue his first love. Now an award-winning tabletop games publisher with games like Conan Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of, Star Trek Adventures, Thunderbirds, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare and John Carter of Mars, Modiphius is headquartered in a secret London base of operations. Chris is backed up on the Achtung! Cthulhu project by writer, novelist and keeper of the lore, John Houlihan. John has been a writer, journalist and broadcaster for over 20 years, working in news, sport and especially videogames, where he was editor-in-chief of ComputerandVideoGames.com.
Based in an old warehouse in Liverpool, that can only be accessed by means of a secret code, Ripstone are helping fund this mission as well as supporting the teams with their experienced producers, eagle-eyed testers, and crack marketeers. Founded in 2011 by publishing and film industry veterans, to-date Ripstone have financed and published 15 games across 14 platforms and have worldwide sales in excess of 10 million units. Their back catalogue includes Ironcast, Stick It To The Man and Chess Ultra, to name but a few.

If your pledge includes physical products, shipping is charged after the Kickstarter and is completed via a pledge manager. This means that the postage is calculated when we know everything you are ordering, so we maximise the value to you! Just ask if you have any questions about this - the team at Modiphius send out hundreds of items every day so are extremely experienced in this area. Below is a guide to prices.
By pledging to this project, you acknowledge that the final look, materials and content of the rewards (and the project) are subject to change and may differ substantially from what is presented while the Kickstarter project was active. All dates advised are aspirational and non-binding . If you do not log in and confirm your pledge within 8 weeks of our notification via email to confirm your pledge, you agree that we have fulfilled our obligations to you in full for payment or donations received. However, we may, at our discretion, refund or ship your pledge, in whole or part, if you contact us and confirm your pledge after the 8 week window has elapsed. Unconfirmed pledges make it difficult for us to plan production and logistics, and in the past have led to project delays. For this project we do not intend to allow this to happen, which may mean if you confirm your pledge too late, certain items may not be produced in sufficient quantity for your pledge. If you confirm your pledge within 8 weeks of our notification via email, you agree that our responsibility to you is to ship your order as entered into our pledge manager system, that title and risk passes to you upon delivery to a common carrier for such shipment, and you are responsible for import duties or any other duties that may be payable to the relevant tax authorities, providing correct address information and ensuring this address is deliverable by normal methods. We regret we are unable to ship to PO Boxes. If you do not accept these terms, please do not pledge on this project but instead wait for the general release.
Risks and challenges
The core game is already funded by our partners, Ripstone. Your support enables us to add more to our core vision. Between Auroch Digital and Ripstone, you have two established creators with long track records of delivering. Together we’re going to make the best game possible! We’ve also created and successfully delivered two Kickstarters.
Modiphius are veterans of making gamers happy via crowdfunding and are currently producing their sixth smash-hit Kickstarter with John Carter of Mars. This makes this a really low risk project and the only way it can go really, is up! We also have a dedicated team who will be responding to your queries, so please ask and we’ll get back asap!
If the crowdfunding does much better than we planned, that might push out the dates a bit as you will have funded much more cool content! We will of course re-calculate the project plan and share the changes with you!
Of course things can happen – with so many people involved in the project illness and life’s problems can often get in the way. We react sensitively to this and try to help people work around it, or can quickly find alternative staff to fill the gap in an emergency.
