Welcome, brave traveler, to the fabled lands of Jeosung.
Within this treasured tome, you will find a complete D&D fantasy campaign setting deeply inspired by the richness and beauty of Korean culture and history.
In the Koryo Hall of Adventures campaign setting, you can explore four uniquely detailed lands within the continent of Jeosung. Roam the mystical forest wilderness of Haguiliesta or head to the city and meddle in the mercenary politics of Daewanguk. Heroes (or fools) may attempt to infiltrate the hermit kingdom of Haenamguk or brave the frigid peaks of Noonnara.
You want more? How about taking part in a pilgrimage along the crest of Wunü Mountain, or exploring the eternally dark swampy forest of Hugakneup? You could also participate in the famous Cave Games under Cheonsanju mountain, or even trade grains and brewed alcohols along the Chassalgil trade route.
The story centers around the Koryo Hall of Adventures, an honorable “mercenary’s guild” of sorts hidden away deep in the wilderness of Haguiliesta. Inside the Hall, adventurers can pick up jobs to take care of “problems” elsewhere in the four kingdoms. Some jobs will require the characters to save the land with grand heroics, but other jobs may have them engaging in back alley crime. A dynamic reputation system ensures all players stay on the same page, and the party is matched with jobs that suit their characters.
The gods abandoned Jeosung at the end of the first age, leaving a multitude of spirits in their wake. The people respect and honor these spirits, and commonly petition them for assistance. This book outlines a beautifully detailed animistic religion, with full rules for playing D&D without divine magic.
Access stats for over 40 kinds of spirits and learn how a world without deities, and therefore without clerics, can still be just as rich and plentiful. Animism opens the door to wonderment and poetry in adventurers' everyday lives.
A full chapter is dedicated to a new shaman class called the Mudang. Shamans use rituals called kutts to connect with the spirits that infuse the land. These spirits are called forth to inhabit the shaman and cast spiritual magic through her.

A full chapter is dedicated to describing customs, clothing, architecture, food and a whole lot more. This allows both Game Masters and players to fully visualize the world in which they play.
You will learn about Obangsaek, the five pillars of reality in Jeosung. Not only are they of primary importance for the practice of shamanism, but they are also connected with the cardinal points, the seasons and with time itself!
Yes! There is so much more: Different types of money based on actual historical items used in Korea, such as golden knives, jade arrow heads and gems. All sorts of charms used by shamans to boost their stats. Three minor realms including one hidden in the depth of the Inner Sea. Libraries filled with more details about the realms that will be released later as ebooks.
Also: totems! Lots of them!
The Koryo Hall of Adventures campaign setting has several points that make it an all-inclusive, non-racist setting which allows players to feel comfortable and ensure that everyone will have fun. The book also contains tools to facilitate communication amongst the players and with the Game Master.
For instance, the reputation system allows Game Masters to set expectations for the type of game they will be leading. Games for positive reputation characters should require generally heroic actions, while games for negative reputation characters will of course bring players onto a wild evil path of destruction.
Other tools include suggestions for conversations during session zero about mental places players are willing or unwilling to go to and a reminder about how to use the X card created by John Stavropoulos for those who want to implement it.
Finally, the book will open on a statement about all inclusive play that all players will be able to read and refer to when they feel like the game or other players are making them uncomfortable. I am a big believer that role playing games can be tremendously beneficial to all when played in a safe space. In-game, sometimes we win or we lose, but at the table, as long as we have fun, we always win.

Collection of ebooks, Full Campaign Ebook and Korean Musical Pack will be delivered in 2020. The priority is on getting the campaign book shipped on time first and then work on those three stretch goals.
Stats are rather bland to look at on their own, so with the All Monster Illustration Pack, I'll add monster illustrations with all the stats already in the book. That way, you will have a beautiful bestiary right in the campaign book.
Next, with the World Building Illustration Pack, I'll tackle all of the equipment, magic items, characters and some depictions of architecture, clothing and food.
In the Map Super Bundle, you will get more detailed maps of each realm as well as a set of city maps.
In the last art pack, Heroic Illustrations, I'll include grand scenic paintings and pictures of heroes fighting against incredible odds. The kind of illustrations that will make you go "Whooooaaaaah!"
This campaign setting is written with D&D 5E mechanics by default. If we hit the System Conversions stretch goal, I'll also include conversions for AD&D (2e), D&D 3.5, Pathfinder and also, a system I really enjoy when I'm in a time crunch: Risus. They will all be delivered as separate ebooks.
The RP Convention Cards are beautifully designed onto a cardboard triangle prism with each face showing the type of adventure that the Game Master is running: Positive Reputation, Neutral Reputation or Negative Reputation.
The RPG community is full of hands-on masterminds who love to design their own stuff. The Designers Pack is a full illustration pack that includes Korean-styled buildings and other assets seen from above for you to make your own town maps and battlefield areas.
The lore and history of Jeosung is so extensive that it comes with books and pamphlets gathered in many of the libraries in the realms, often referenced in the campaign book. You can access some of these pieces of writing by unlocking the Collection of Ebooks. This includes more information about the history of the realms, rituals and types of offerings for shamans, how to craft charms and even a Jeosung cookbook. (Work on these ebooks will not be completed until after the books are shipped, and will be delivered in 2020.)
The holy grail of the Koryo Hall of Adventures is a Full Campaign Ebook that will result in widespread collateral damage across a shattered Jeosung, possibly giving rise to completely new facets of this world. (Work on this campaign will start after the books are shipped and will be delivered in 2020.)
The Korean Musical Pack is my personal super-dream-mega-stretch-goal. I love Korean traditional music and I often attend Gugak concerts in Seoul. I listened to a lot of it while designing this campaign setting and I would absolutely love to bring this music to your gaming sessions. With this stretch goal unlocked, I will procure for you a range of music that you can use during your games: Nongak music for celebrations in villages and public places, Samulnori for inns and private quarters, Pansori for royal courts and long form rituals, as well as a set of beautiful tunes to put in the background. Try this for a spin, the music I listened to when designing the Mudang class:
* In order to keep the content of the campaign setting consistent, we will have to brainstorm the names and illustrations together for the recurring NPC pledges, giving priority to what fits with the world of Jeosung. Please make sure to keep that in mind when selecting this reward.
BOOK SPECIAL EDITION
This special edition is limited to 200 prints especially for this Kickstarter campaign. The content of the book is similar to the regular version but the cover is blue cloth with gold foil.

This is the first Kickstarter project for Red Scales Publishing. The company's owner, Aurélien Lainé, has been in the entertainment industry for over 10 years and has consistently delivered client projects on time and with the utmost regard for detailed quality.
I have taken all the steps necessary to ensure the success of this project by doing the most important work upfront: the manuscript. It is all done and only requires editing and proofreading services, which I will get done no matter what. This Kickstarter campaign is designed to improve the final product, not sprout it into existence.
