A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:

We believe in convenience without compromise. With Aucasi Socket, you never need to even think about switches again. The installation is as easy as plugging in a toaster: plug the adapter in, plug an existing device in the socket, and program your own personal smart switching scheme. Program it to work simply by you walking into a room, by way of timers, events such as the sun setting/rising, the presence of your phone, or even the light intensity in the room. Aucasi Socket is much more than just a simple timer switch. It allows you to set up a dynamic schedule based on many factors, such as sunset or sunrise, the day of the week, who is present, the light intensity in the rooms or even based on the weather.
Convenience and security are important, but so is saving energy. Aucasi Socket can automatically switch connected devices, like your lights or television, off when no motion is detected in the room. Aucasi Socket gives you insight into the specific energy usage of any physically connected device. You can also create rules based on the amount of power being used. For example, Aucasi Socket can send you a notification when your laundry is completed since the washing machine will use less energy after it has finished the wash, or if you have solar panels with a smart meter, you can turn on devices when the sun shines.
We believe that your data should always remain your data. Aucasi respects privacy as all communications between different Aucasi Sockets remain inside your own secured home network, and no personal data is stored on servers. Internet access is only required for features such as retrieving current weather or the sunset/sunrise times for your location. This also means that Aucasi will remain working when the internet is down!

Whether you’re a businessman, student or grandparent, Aucasi is there for you when you need it. We want to really automate your home, in a non-invasive way so you don’t need to get your phone out of your pocket to switch your lights. Also for disabled people Aucasi is a solution to enhance functional independence and make daily tasks easier. For geeks, developers and hobbyists we have good news as well, because we designed Aucasi with openness in mind. Applications which interact with Aucasi and dedicated hardware can be created.
We believe that developers and hobbyists can create amazing things that can work with Aucasi, so parts of our software will be licensed under an Open Source Initiative approved license, and we will also provide an API. We chose an open platform and strongly encourage developers to develop new apps and (WiFi enabled) hardware that can work together with Aucasi. Of course you can link your Aucasi to other (open source) devices which have WiFi, services with an API, or use it with your own Arduino or Raspberry Pi projects. You can buy a NodeMCU devkit and run our software on it.
Just to give some figures, by the end of 2015 already 1.4 million homes were equipped with a smart thermostat. Over 7 million raspberry pi's have been sold, and more and more NodeMCU devkits and arduino's have been sold.

Aucasi Socket has been in development since January 2016. We already have a few iterations, from breadboard to the last prototype including a 3D-printed casing, as seen in the picture below.

Furthermore, we have a working version of our software. We're able to communicate to the PC and other prototypes using UDP packages, and there are even more features to come!
We have already made a new design for the final Aucasi Socket and came up with a list of changes and new criteria based on the knowledge which we gained from our previous prototypes and company visits.

The first products will have a plug compatible with type C and F, additional plugs will be added later. Aucasi Socket is a consumer product and for indoor use only, and off course, the motion sensor and infrared LEDs will only work when unobstructed.
The free Aucasi smartphone app will be available for iPhone and Android users. Users of other operating systems can use their browser to access and configure Aucasi on any platform.
There are other systems that can do things like Aucasi, but usually require a really expensive basestation (The Fibaro home center lite without sensors costs €239!). We are a motivated group of technical university students, inbetween 20 and 23 years old, who wish to bring real home automation to everyone. We love creating new things that will help people in their everyday lives, while still keeping the environment in mind. We have expertise in electronics, embedded software and computer science.

We have a prototype and lots of motivation, all we need now is the funds to make Aucasi really happen. Risks and challenges
Safety is of utmost importance for us, so we have to use certified safe components. The power supply currently used in our prototype is certified, but quite big. Because we want a gorgeous and as small as possible product, we are still looking for ways to make a small, but just as safe, power supply (like a phone charger for example).
Certifications are important. First of all they are really expensive, and secondly they might delay the process (and increase the cost) if clearance is not given in the timeframe we estimated. Although we already took this into account, government-issued certifications always post risks.
Software is a continuous development process and we must keep working to make sure Aucasi remains secure and safe. We try our bests to implement all features as quickly as possible, but some features may take more time than others, and the software may not be perfect when shipping the Aucasi Sockets.
