About this project
Attaboy, reality here.
Hey everyone, my name is Attaboy. I'm a writer, musician, illustrator, and super hero. My goal is to raise $10,000 to fund the production of two projects (a 2000 print run of 64 page comic, and a full length acoustic/rap album) that I plan to release in tandem in the near future. The story is called Late Earth, and it is one 5 years in the making. After all this time, I've come to the point where I cannot merely think of it anymore. I want to share it with you.
Time travel, you crazy.
A story about stories. Late Earth is a chronicle of the super hero Attaboy and his endeavor to save the world. From what exactly, is not so clear, but a residual precognition jogs his mind constantly to an impending shift of a magnitude unknown to humanity. Attaboy is thrust into a reality with no memory of how or why, but he retains several gadgets, flashbacks, and expectations that push him to discover the truth of his presence. Upon his arrival via a device known as “the briefcase”, he is knocked unconscious by a mysterious suited man and whisked off into the night by a mob of shrouded monsters. A small box, the contents of which are unknown, is stolen from him along with the briefcase. This event, though not explicitly obvious at first, is responsible for a rift in time that, if left unchecked, could unravel the reality as a whole. Attaboy will need to find all the variables to the equation before he can restore the timeline. Some elements are more easily obtained while others might take a bit of convincing. His intentions are good, and while he would go largely misunderstood for the majority of the tale, proving a point might just be within his grasp.
Late Earth is inspired by the state of our current world. It is meant to offer commentary on life in 2012, scientific theory, medicine, technology, pop culture, music, philosophy and opinion; encourage inspiration in others so as to beget innovation, creativity, and progress in all forms of art and science and their combinations; and to provide a venue for ideas and dreams that would otherwise go to the wayside through integrative and interactive story-writing. John Nash, Ray Kurzweil, Neil Degrasse Tyson, Richard Feynman, Carl Sagan, Lawrence Krauss, Stephen Hawking, Erwin Schroedinger, Sir Issac Newton, Leonardo DaVinci, and Albert Einstein have all contributed to my understanding of perspective in the ways that only they can, but so has everyone else I’ve met. Great minds and hearts are everywhere, and often times, they don’t get their say. I hope to give them their recognition for helping me along and strengthening my understanding of the time and space I occupy.
The album will be comprised of all the music I've written in the past year. Many of the songs have taken on a face from the story creating music with an aesthetic that can be recognized between the pages. In working this way, I have pushed my sound to change consistently. A few songs are acoustic tunes. Some are anti-folk jams. Others still are rap and spoken word inspired by the likes of Brother Ali, Grieves, POS, and Eyedea. I hope my music reflects a voice that is intimate with contemplation, and that anyone who hears it can take something personal with them.
$10,000 is required to complete this project. I have chosen to use jakprints as my printer for the comic. A 2000 print run of a full color 68 page (64 + covers) comic with 2 day ground shipping will cost $4,875.37. My production manager has quoted a full length professional quality album at $5,000, the difference being the cost of running a CD print. All funds raised past this mark will be put towards supplies, strings, gear, and if permitted, gas and lodging for a tour with a few other musicians to move the comic and music for others to enjoy. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and working hard on producing something great for all my backers.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to be hearing from you on the pledge front! By the way, the action points with your rewards are part of a future project. Backers will find out what they do when the project reaches its goal and the books are on their way. Make sure you hold on to them when they arrive! ;D
Happy trails super friends!
