ATOMS News: ATOMS University Videos & Our First Casting Call

A lot has happened in the last two weeks as we dig into the heady work of Seamless Toy Co’s development phase. There’s design work, hiring, and lots going on behind the scenes but the biggest news we have to share has its roots in inspiration and gratitude.

We are lucky (we know) to work on a product that inspires nearly everyone we share it with. Case in point, and our big news, was that during our hunt for a videographer to make the ATOMS University Videos, we met Stephen Sinclair.

His portfolio blew us away. He’s a commercial making guru who’s been in the industry for nearly 20 years, working on huge brands for projects around the world and it quickly became apparent that we couldn’t afford him, but he didn’t care. Stephen wants to work on ATOMS because believes in what we’re creating and sees how big ATOMS can become; for him, money is less important than that vision.

And so, we welcome Stephen Sinclair onto our team to help us become a household name as the Director/Producer/Creative Lead in the ATOMS University video series! We can’t imagine that many companies are this fortunate and you can bet that we’re going to keep making world-class toys that inspire kids and adults to play, learn, and MAKE!

Want to see Stephen’s work? Check out our Facebook page to see a post with his Director’s Reel. (Feel free to like ATOMS while you’re there - It feels so good to be liked.)

Casting Call for ATOMS University Videos
If you live in Boulder, Colorado and are the parent or friend to a bright, fun, awesome kid who is 6 to 12 years old, let them know about ATOMS University! No acting experience is necessary and we’re accepting submissions through Friday, February 15th.

These videos will help launch ATOMS into the mainstream and we’d love for some of our ATOMS Kids to come from you, our backers. To find out more about the project and to submit a talented kid for the series, go to our Casting page

ATOMS University videos will officially launch in May. We’ll keep you posted, share news, and probably release the occasional teaser, too. Stay tuned…

Thanks for everything,
Michael & The ATOMS Team

ATOMS Online Store Is Up...And An Important Reminder

In our last backer update we shared some of the cool things happening at ATOMS Express and our company, Seamless Toy Co. We want to make sure you didn’t miss the news that yesterday we launched our very own online store for pre-order of ATOMS toys!

That’s good news if you or someone you know didn’t make the Kickstarter deadline, you’ve decided you want to double up on more kits, or you just need one or two specific bricks to complete an epic DIY project you’re planning this summer.

All pre-ordered ATOMS will lock in early shipping in our first round of post-Kickstarter deliveries. They’ll be shipping in July (and Kickstarter deliveries will be in June). Thanks for all you've done and continue to do! We hope you'll check out our new online pre-order store and help us to spread the news about ATOMS being available for purchase.

For those of you who ‘upped’ your backing to order additional ATOMS or sets, please verify that Kickstarter charged you the correct, total amount for your updated pledge! We’ve heard from some backers that their orders weren't complete.

So please, take a moment to confirm your pledge and if the upgrade amount seems to be wrong, let us know as soon as possible by emailing us at hello(at)atoms-express(dot)com. We want to make sure you’re taken care of and all intended Kickstarter orders are honored!

Entering the Product Development Phase

It's been a few weeks since our last update, but rest assured, we haven't been sitting still!

Seamless Toy Company (that's the name of our company) and ATOMS are shifting into a new phase. The Kickstarter phase of ATOMS was defined by excitement, momentum, and prototyping - getting our product ideas out there and evolving them with your feedback. This next phase, the Product Development phase, will be defined by diligence and attention to detail. We will be taking ATOMS from the proof-of-concept state that it's in, to a polished and refined product.

We are still moving quickly, but also keeping in mind that engineering that we do now will lay the groundwork for the ATOMS system we'll be expanding on for years to come.

We'll be starting up ATOMS University soon, in the form of video podcasts, and we'll be sharing this product development process with you.

Need More ATOMS? We Have A Store For You (And Your Friends!)

If you or someone you know didn’t make the Kickstarter deadline or you’re dying for one more “smart” brick for that DIY masterpiece, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Starting today you can lock in fresh orders for our first round of post-Kickstarter deliveries of ATOMS in July (Kickstarter deliveries will be in June). Take a look around our new pre-order site and help us spread the news.

IMPORTANT: For those of you who upped your backing to order additional ATOMS or sets, please verify that Kickstarter charged you the correct total amount for your updated pledge. We’re hearing from some backers that their orders weren't complete. Take a moment to confirm, and if your pledge upgrade amount seems to be wrong, let us know as soon as possible by emailing us at hello(at)atoms-express(dot)com. We want to make sure all intended Kickstarter orders are honored.

We're hiring!

Any company or product is only as good as the people behind it, and we're looking for some great people to join the team. Seamless Toy Company is looking for talented, driven, creative, passionate people to build out the ATOMS team. Many of you have asked how you can continue to help beyond backing ATOMS - this is it! Help us find these great people. (Maybe it's you!)

All positions are located in downtown Boulder, Colorado and include the opportunity to change the world for the better. :)

Resumes and portfolios should be sent to: join-us(at)atoms-express(dot)com

Sr. Industrial Designer

This person will re-design and optimize the physical form of ATOMS, and the structural components that make up the boxed sets (i.e. the Monster Set, the Wand Set, etc).

Executive Assistant to the CEO

This position will support the CEO by managing his calendars, executive communications, travel planning, and recruiting as we build out our team.

Director of Product Development

This position will lead the product development team, including all hardware, app, and web app components of the ATOMS ecosystem.

ATOMS Funded! 183%

Dear Backers,

We did it! Actually you did it.

Look at this data (below)! The first day of the campaign, Nov 19th, ATOMS was covered in Wired, GigaOM, and Mashable. That explains the steep slope in the beginning.

Your upgrades, tweeting, Facebook posting, and telling your friends and family explain the equally steep slope at the end. We owe this success to you!

We are spending the next few days verifying that we have everyone's upgrades recorded correctly, so don't be surprised if you hear from us directly. After that, we'll be at CES next week attending a Bluetooth Org press event (if you're attending CES, give us a shout at, and we'll be ramping up product development when we get back. Expect ATOMS University updates to start the week of Jan 14th.

We'll also be sending a backer survey out through Kickstarter to verify shipment info, and ask for your input on where ATOMS is going. That should be coming your way later this week.

Thanks again for rallying with us, and for everything! We can't wait to get you your ATOMS!

Hit $175K, now just 3 Hours Left!

Dear Backers and Kickstarters,

We hit the $175K stretch goal, which means we will be making ATOMS waterproofed, and we'll be giving everyone at the $59 pledge level and higher a free Earthquake ATOM!

Thank you and congratulations to everyone for helping us get to this milestone! Our data shows this was nearly all backer driven - your upgrades and reaching out to your friends and family. Really great work everyone!

With just 3 hours to go, only a few things left to say:

1) We Will Recognize our Kickstarter Backers on our "About" Page.

We're aiming to build a great company here, and in the case that ATOMS is massively successful in 5 years, it is going to be pretty special to have been a part of this early on.

So we're going to recognize all Kickstarter backers on our website's "about" page, when we redo the website this spring, and that will be a permanent thing - so people years into the future can know how we got started. Everyone will have the option to specify how they want their name to appear, and to opt out if they so choose.

2) Make sure you've made any pledge upgrades you wanted before 11:59pm EST.

Our Kickstarter campaign will automatically end at 11:59pm EST (UTC-5). Here's that pledge upgrade calculator spreadsheet again that may help with all the options. A screen-shot of that spreadsheet is posted again below.

3) Re-poke your friends and family - anyone you know who wants to be a part of ATOMS on Kickstarter, but was waiting until the last minute. We're just about at the last minute. :)
