Lagerstedt Interview excerpt

Posted by Adrian Smith (Creator)

Phil Lagerstedt joined the Navy in 1944 at the age of 17. He served aboard the USS Belleau Wood (CVL-24) until the war's end, and subsequently crewed the USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) from Bremerton, WA to Bikini Atoll, where he witnessed the Bikini bombs.

This excerpt is taken from the April 3, 2013 2-hour interview with Mr. Lagerstedt. It's edited for length but not much else at this point.

As a witness to the Baker bomb tests Mr. Lagerstedt is one of the few remaining people who can attest to what took place at Bikini Atoll. Please help us to make sure this important twentieth century history isn't forgotten.

Thank you.
