We were so oblivious when our planes touched down in LA for the infamous “Hollywood Week” of American Idol Season 11…
Naturally the odds were not in our favor to become stars on a major reality television phenomenon, however, as fate would have it, we met each other and 5 years later we became A Thousand Miles; a Country/Rock Duo operating out of Nashville, TN and Brooklyn, NY — nearly 1000 miles apart.
We hope you’ve seen the video above that shares a little about the amazing response since we released our single “Sirens” and became an official band on September 11, 2016, as well as more of the exciting things we have planned in 2017!
It all started with a song and a common thread. “Sirens” is a song written by Joey & Rachel Banua as a tribute to Rachel’s late husband who was a firefighter and volunteer police officer. He suffered an accidental death off-duty, but he served his community faithfully and wholeheartedly before his passing.
With only a few lines written, Joey immediately reached out to American Idol friend Nikki Dee in NYC whose uncle was a firefighter assigned to the roof of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Sadly, he never made it home that tragic day. There was no doubt that Nikki needed to be a part of this song once it was completed.
In 2016 Joey & Rachel paid to record and promote “Sirens” as a single out-of-pocket with a price tag over $10,000 for just the one song. It was worth every penny because the song spawned A Thousand Miles and it’s music video (courtesy of Executive Producer Johannes Loutsch & Director Jon Stone) was viewed over 800,000 times in it’s first few weeks.
Messages, comments, shares and likes have poured in since 09/11/16 and the first responder community, especially, has been so incredibly kind, welcoming and encouraging to us! And we have been so blessed to pour our hearts into showing first responders the gratitude they deserve. Among many wonderful messages, the prominent question we have been getting…
“When are you guys going to release more music?!?!”
The resounding answer is, NOW!
We were so grateful to hit the road and visit cities all the way from Nashville to LA introducing ourselves to a few country radio stations and writing our first 5 song record, and we are ready to head to the studio!!!
Like our first single, we want to deliver you a record that is meaningful and created with an amazing producer (David Zaffiro) who produced “Sirens” and has a long list of other well known artist he’s worked with including Little Big Town & The Band Perry.
We plan to use the best musicians, best engineers at one of Nashville’s best studios just like before, but this time we want you to join us on the Journey of A Thousand Miles. We don’t have a major label backing us and pouring money into our music, and in today’s music industry we won’t get any love from any labels until they see how powerful our people are!
This is our big chance to show the industry people how amazing YOU have already been to us by reaching our goal.
For the sake of transparency, we want to show you how this $50,000 is broken down. Keep in mind, these numbers have been rounded down, and this is an abbreviated list of expenses:

Our Stretch Goal is $75,000. If we raise more than our goal, we can keep going! If we meet the Stretch Goal, it will help us continue to promote, market and tour to support the record. More importantly it will afford us more opportunities to see you face-to-face and get to know you better and make amazing memories together!
Seriously, this is the best part of doing a KickStarter campaign. It gives us amazing chances to hang out together whether it’s one-on-one like our lunches together or the amazing Bahama Cruise with the band -OR- really fun events with you and your friends like our house concerts or local venue concerts! Please read each description of your pledge level carefully. (Keep in mind that for many of the prizes that are "experiences", you'll have the remainder of 2017 and all of 2018 to schedule. We'll work it out!)
We also love our FIRST RESPONDER PLEDGE level. This is our salute to all of the men and women who risk their lives to save and protect strangers everyday. This is all too often a thankless job, and we want to show them our undying support by recognizing the final tally of these pledge backers who stand together with arms linked and carry a message of unity and peace.
While A Thousand Miles wants to create timeless, feel-good music on a wide array of subjects, it is part of our mission to raise awareness for PTSD in the first responder fields and to walk beside the families who are affected. Our first responders have chosen an occupation that has them running out the door to situations that they don’t know the outcome everyday, and often times they see such difficult things; things no person should ever have to see and then have to act normal like it never happened.
When you support A Thousand Miles you are also allowing us to support the countless families who are peacemakers in their communities by making music and selling merchandise that we can then leverage to provide opportunities healing and proactive education in dealing with PTSD and it’s many challenges.
We are so incredibly grateful to have you on this journey with us! Welcome to the team! xoxo
Joey & Nikki

Risks and challenges
We are 100% dedicated to delivering the absolute best music we can muster. Sometimes there are unforeseen obstacles during the process of recording an album, but this is completely normal, and we will work through anything that comes our way.
One of the risks, and the one thing that can stop this campaign in it's tracks, is if we do NOT reach our goal. If this is the case, no money changes hands and we are out the money. Kickstarter will not charge anything from any backer's account, and we walk away with $0.00
Our hope is that you will be as excited as we are to make this album and we will see backing that we never imagined possible! If this is the case, please be patient as we fulfill all of the amazing incentives we've set out for your enjoyment. WE WILL KEEP EVERY PROMISE. But it WILL take some time. But we will work with each backer to make sure your experiences are amazing!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
