A really intelligent home
Homey brings your home to life. It can talk to many devices, and you can talk to Homey. Say what you want, when you want it, and Homey takes care of it. Homey learns your ways and predicts which things to do, to make you happy.
Homey is designed for everyone
Whether you’re a businessman, student, grandparent or housewife, Homey is there for you when you need it. We want to get technology out of the way so you can focus on what matters most to you, and Homey takes care of the rest.
A few things Homey can do…
Homey combines your devices and the internet, allowing for smart scenarios:
When you get home, your lights fade on, your thermostat is already set to a comfortable level and your favorite music is streamed to your receiver.
When you need to wake up, the curtains or blinds are opening, your morning tune is playing on your stereo while the weather for today and your e-mails are being read to you. The smell of fresh and automatically made coffee gets you out of bed.
When you’re in the supermarket, you decide it’s going to be pizza tonight. You tell the Homey app to pre-heat your oven by switching it on. If you have a smart fridge, your grocery shopping list is sent to you.
When you want to watch a movie, the blinds close, your lights dim, your music fades out, the TV is set to the correct channel and your media center plays the movie.
When you leave your house, Homey tells you it’s going to rain soon, and reminds you to take an umbrella. When you're the last person to leave the house, Homey turns down the heat and switches all your lights and devices off to save energy. Finally, Homey makes sure that your front door is really locked.
- When you get a call, your music pauses while the call is routed via Bluetooth from your phone and sent to the speakers closest to where you currently are.
UPDATE: Stretch goals
Since we have reached our goal this fast, there is room open for many more. We have a lot ideas for Homey, but limited time to develop. With more funding, we can invite more members to the team, which can develop more functionality!
It just works
When you plug it in, Homey already works with most of your devices, and support for many more will come. Next to home appliances, it connects to your entertainment systems and online accounts. Homey is the living hub that intelligently connects everything in your life.
Homey works with...
...and many more!
While this sounds like magic, it’s actually science: Homey includes 7 wireless modules that work on various frequencies and protocols, all integrated together in an intelligent and easy-to-use device with state-of-the-art speech recognition. And to make sure we don’t miss out on your older devices and television sets, we’ve added an Infrared Power-LED. Yes, you may throw away all your remotes now.
There’s an app for that
Because there are a lot of devices used out there, and new ones being released every day, Homey features an app store, so you can continuously get freshly made apps by fellow enthusiasts and device brands. All apps are checked, so you don’t have to worry about privacy and safety.
Developers and hobbyists can also publish directly to the Labs section, where you can freely share your own homebrew projects.
Do I have supported products?
Yes, you have! Homey already works with the most basic devices at home, such as your older, infrared-controlled TV set. Let Homey connect to your mail, calendar en weather service and your already have quite the smart assistant, which only gets smarter and smarter as you purchase more (wireless) devices!
Out of the box
When you use Homey for the first time, it already knows how to talk with most of your devices. In the event that you own a device that Homey isn't yet familiar with, like your older television, you can easily learn Homey how to talk to it using your remote. As a bonus, these device codes are then shared to other Homey owners, so that everyone that owns the same device can profit instantly.
Because not everyone is a native English speaker, Homey is multi-language. At first we support English, Dutch, German, Spanish and French, and more languages will be added later on, prioritized by our backer's locations.
For the geeks, developers, hobbyists
We are geeks and we'd love to have a part of our backers to be geeks too. Everyone can develop for Homey, because we designed it with openness in mind. We don’t like all that commercial blahblah, we do this to give you the best experience!
By pledging as geek, you don’t only get Homey, but also example code for your own Homey app, an Arduino library and early access to the SDK. You'll also get two nRF24L01+ radio transceivers to communicate wirelessly plus enough jumper cables to get you started.
- Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n
- Bluetooth 4.0
- 433.92 MHz
Homey works with a 12V adapter, which will be shipped with a connector to match your region. For now we promise type A and C plugs only (US and EU mainland), when we have more backers from foreign countries, we’ll do our best to include your local plug!
The sphere is 11 cm (4.3") in diameter. In the middle you will find a multi-colored LED ring that empowers apps to give feedback to the user, and the small circle on top is for the Infrared Power-LED to shine through the casing.
The Homey Smartphone App is available for iPhone and Android users. Users of other operating systems can use their browser to access and configure Homey on the go.
History, Current state and Timeline
Homey has been in development for the past three years as both a hobby and university project. In the hobby phase, the speech recognition used was a hybrid between Microsoft's and Google's, combined with a display for visual feedback. Shortly after, the project was rewritten in Node.js for a University's project with use of Google's speech recognition, added with our own sauce of intelligence.
We are sure that an intelligent home will never work without support for all your devices. That was why we chose for an open platform, that allows everyone to contribute, based on Node.js running on the Raspberry Pi.
To launch this project as a consumer product, the Raspberry Pi will be replaced by it's industrial variant, the compute module. Then, all wireless modules will be hooked up to it, and finally put it all in the orb casing.
Hardware demo video
The development in the coming time will be primarily focused on getting all the parts in the orb. We are also further developing the mobile applications and marketplace, and starting the mass production process for the casing. After that, bulk ordering of the modules and assemblage of the product are up to finalize Homey.

Risques et défis
== Licensing of Technologies ==
We do our utmost best to make sure all the licensing is properly fixed before we ship the device. We will make sure that the product you get shipped is hardware-wise capable with all the technologies touted before, so a possible missing license could be added through a software update.
== CE/FCC Certifications ==
Although we are doing our very best and are in collaboration with local test labs and the University of Twente, CE and FCC certifications remain a tricky issue. First of all they are really not cheap, especially FCC requires extensive testing by accredited labs, and secondly they might delay the process if clearance is not given in the timeframe we estimated. Although we already took this into account, government-issued certifications always post risks.
== Overwhelming demand ==
To handle overwhelming demand, our perks will be released in batches, each with its own estimated delivery time. This is to prevent early backers to receive their product much later than anticipated, and to give every backer a clear indication of the estimated delivery time for their product.
This is of course the only problem we're hoping to face ;-)
== Supplier delays ==
Since we are incorporating many different technologies in one device, we have to deal with a lot of suppliers for all the components. Although we have multiple options for each part, communication with suppliers or delays can cause for unexpected delays in the process, especially since many electronic parts are manufactured in Asia nowadays. We will keep you updated on our progress and take reliability and reviews into account when ordering to minimize this risk, but not all can be prevented.En savoir plus sur la notion de responsabilité sur Kickstarter
