The ATAS Foundation was founded around various puzzle pieces we experienced in our lives. The most significant puzzle piece was our strong memories of our grandmother suffering from Alzheimer's disease for over 10 years. Throughout the years, we began to collect more puzzle pieces, such as Angie's love for art which led her to learn about art therapy, and more broadly neuroscience. With Kathy's experiences of digital marketing and intellectual property, our puzzle pieces came together over years of planning and preparation to realize as the ATAS Foundation. Our digital art fair is the core event of the ATAS Foundation and we believe that it will allow us to introduce art therapy to more communities.
As of September 1st, the ATAS Foundation has over 60 artist members from 20 countries all over the world. Among them, 44 artists in 16 countries participated in this digital art fair. While not all of the artwork may be directly related to art therapy or Alzheimer's, all participating artists have united and pledged their support for "Art for the Treatment of Alzheimer's Sufferers", as ATAS stands for.
Welcome to our 2019 ATAS Digital Art Fair!
We have 3 goals for this digital art fair.
The first one is to raise awareness for Alzheimer's disease. According to the World Alzheimer's report, every 3 seconds someone in the world develops dementia and the 50 million people living with dementia is expected to triple by 2050. World Alzheimer's Month is the international campaign every September to raise awareness and challenge the stigma that surrounds dementia. This month, September 2019, will mark the 8th World Alzheimer's Month. The ATAS Digital Art Fair, starting this September, has been launched to participate in this international campaign and in honor of our grandmother and the millions of others who suffer from Alzheimer's disease.
The next goal is to raise funds for Memories In The Making, which is one of the most well-known art treatment programs for Alzheimer's sufferers, led by several Alzheimer's organizations in Orange County, San Diego, Los Angeles, Colorado, Wisconsin, and more. Although we have already completed its art facilitator training, we need more funds to participate in this program. For example, using the supplies recommended, the average start-up cost for supplies for 10 people is $120. So we set the goal of this project as $500 in order to introduce this program to more communities. The more funds that we raise from this art fair, the more art treatment programs can be initiated and continued to be supported for Alzheimer's sufferers.
Our last goal is to feature our artists and showcase their incredible work. Some of our artists enjoy art as a hobby, some are students, and some are professionals. Regardless, all of our artists joined us when the ATAS Foundation had nothing but our cause and yet, were willingly to share many resources with us. We sincerely appreciate their continuous participation and support and would like to feature their artwork to the world whenever we have the chance. We would like to thank all of our participating ATAS artists again.
