About the game:
Mermaids vs. Zombies is about the underwater apocalypse. In short it's essentially about you and your cousin princess Bubbles, trying to find a way to end the zombie apocalypse, that's infecting Mertopia. It's an rpg visual novel hybrid. The visual novel portions are almost all completed, however the rpg elements have yet to be implemented due to a lack of budget.
Right now the most of the budget raised here will go into three categories. Advertisement. Programming and the main one, the Art resources. Right now I'm hesitant to show any game footage due to the game not being fully polished. Shall I get requests from backers I'd be more then happy to show off what we have so far, but the reason I have yet to do so independently is because it's not fully polished.
The programming aspect I have mostly covered. However I would like to recruit at least two more programmers so I'm not as swamped with work as I have been.
Lastly Advertisement: shall we make it over three hundred I will do my best to not only get this game on consoles, but also on platforms such as Steam. Steam alone cost's around 100$ for you to even be considered.
Budget aside I plan to have this game, be very diverse. With characters across the board in marginalized groups. Right now the game has a racially diverse cast, with one or two disabled characters, and lgbtqia+ characters as well. Princess Bubbles, and the player are both Black, Zib and Pilo are asian, Zib is agender and visualy impaired, and Billino is bisexual. The only one not in some sort of marginalized group is Jerins, and he's...kind of a joke as a character.
About the plot
In Mermaids Vs. Zombies you have a princess as a cousin named Bubbles. She is experimenting with the dead...she noticed that humans were bringing there kind back to life, so she thought she could do the same by stealing the chemical that they were using. Only problem? Humans weren't bringing there kind back to life, those were zombies. Now its up to you to save the day, and all of Mertopia.
In relation to Braincake Productions:
We have interest from braincake productions to make the game, but the company will only due so if it can raise a budget independently. I own the company but it has yet to make a profit and thus can't really add funds to the game unless it proves its of value. I want to make this project. But I also want to do what's best for the company as well.
If you pledged more then 10$ and you would still like to receive the stickers please message me with your address.
Risks and challenges
We recently had our actor for one of the main characters( Pillo ) quit. because she didn't wish to sign a talent release form. The others are working on sighing the release forms so they may eventually shall they not like the agreement quit as well. Actors these days can be easily replaced. I know so, I'm an actor myself. I hate to put it that way but its true, I can replace actors if they quit. Now I'd prefer they don't because I'm happy with my casting, but generally shall it become an issue, we'll have to reset up our casting calls which is something that will take time. This could make the project go slower then expected.
Currently the artist working on mermaids vs. Zombies has been out of town. However up until this point theirs been no real deadlines for the art. I'm working on setting up deadlines with the artist that will help us, communicate better and make the game a reality.
Right now I'm the only one programming the game. However shall we reach our goal I will officially be able to recruit more people to help me program.
This game may end up being controversial. This due to the fact that lgbt characters and themes are presented as normal within a children's game.
Braincake productions is interested in producing my game. But only if I personally can raise a large enough budget independently. Hence why the money from this kick starter is going to me and not briancake productions. Worst case scenario I produce this game independently.
