Inbetween Nowhere tells the riveting story of three young Syrians, who have escaped from Assad and ISIS into the Turkish border city of Gaziantep.

“Arada Hiçbir Yerde”; sınır kentimiz Gaziantep’e kaçan Suriyeli üç genç adamın heyecan dolu öyküsünu anlatıyor.

The film highlights and contrasts the immense ongoing humanitarian tragedies in the region with the hopeful and dynamic spirit of these young men.

All three of them have lost so much because of the war. Their youth has been taken from them just because of where they were born. They are away from their home and families, hovering “Inbetween Nowhere”… Yet they have not lost their capacity for joy and laughter. They are as strong as their brotherhood… We’re inspired by them, and hopefully so will you be when you watch our film.

Having spent two intense weeks with Mahmoud, Millad and Ezzaldeen in Gaziantep we are so grateful that they let us into their lives and hearts. They trusted us with the most intimate details of their lives and we now have a responsibility to tell their incredible stories in the best and most truthful way possible.

What started as a passion project with just two filmmakers and a small DSLR camera now has the potential to reach millions of people. Having used our own resources thus far we are now in need of urgent funding for additional filming and to begin translating and editing our footage.

We feel we need to complete this film quickly as it is very topical and the life situation of our characters changes very fast. At any moment they can go back to Aleppo, where they’ll be beyond our reach as Turkey has closed its border.

Mahmoud was going to be our translator. But once we got to know him he became our subject! He has been arrested and tortured by Assad multiple times but he hasn't lost his sense of humor or his hope for a free and democratic Syria.

Millad still lives in Aleppo and makes the incredibly dangerous journey across the Turkish border multiple times a year. In Syria he was imprisoned and tortured by ISIS. Two of his brothers were arrested while fighting with the FSA and nobody has heard from them since…

Ezzaldeen was the youngest leader of the Free Syrian Army in Aleppo. He and his brother Ali, who are incredibly close, left their studies and joined the FSA when they were 19 and 17 respectively. Now they both study in Gaziantep while still engaged in their cause.

Risks and challenges

We went to Gaziantep with no budget and no crew to do research for a potential documentary project. Our goal was to identify potential subjects and stories and then come back to Istanbul and raise money for the film. Yet things developed unexpectedly fast and we ended up shooting most of the film on this initial trip through very hard work and personal sacrifice.

Although what we shot is amazing in its content we did have many technical problems and we do need to go back and re-shoot some of our material. Some of the footage cannot be re-shot, for example Millad has gone back to Aleppo and it is not clear if he will come back. Therefore we need a good post-production budget to solve our sound and image issues technically.

Another challenge unique to this project is that we need to worry about the safety of our subjects. Some side characters have families who still live in Assad controlled areas in Syria and we need to hide their identities.

Finally due to the topical nature of the film we need to fundraise and complete the film quickly. We hope the finished film will get the world’s attention to do more about what is the greatest humanitarian refugee crisis since WW2. And we are counting on your support in doing so!!!

2. Dünya Savaşı’ndan sonra gerçekleşen en büyük mülteci krizine uluslararası düzeyde dikkat çekebilmeyi hedefliyoruz.
İşte bu yüzden desteğinize güveniyoruz!
