The 2012 LP "Ten Strong Superpunk Skarantella Reggae Rumba Fury" is shaping up to have the same raw truth of an independent release with the polish and quality of a label release. We'll shop this thing out to indie labels in the future, but at this point it's all yours to pledge anything from $4 to the full $2000 to help make Askultura's first full length release a reality.
WE MADE THE 2,000! Check the updates for the newest of news like my Uncle Broadway says!
Why should Askultura make records? The last thing the world needs is another band running around asking for money.
Because there's a message within. The positivity, personal responsibility and hope that's lost to popular music is definitively present here. Listening to us you'll hear a sound that's familiar to your bones. We take the musical roots of our cultures and add the fury and energy of a genre that's had the world dancing, thinking and taking action for thirty years. We named the record after the sound within: "Superpunk Skarantella Reggae Rumba Fury".
With the ability to independently produce this record, Askultura can continue to make music that speaks your language without the whitewash of a major label. Twenty years ago Askultura would've thrived under an indie label like Fat Wreck Chords or Epitaph. Today, thanks to crowd funding like Kickstarter we're able to put the message out there ourselves while we tirelessly work to continue making real music.
We're going to need your help, but it's not for nothing. If you give us your hard-earned we will hook you up with lots of good stuff. Check out the pledges and you'll see what we're willing to do to make "Ten Strong" heard. If you'd like to pledge to more than one reward you can make a second account and do so...only one reward per account. If we exceed the $2000 we're gonna use that extra cash & take those shiny cd's with us on the road, so no amount is too much...we're ready to travel to Mongolia with these tunes.
As each Kickstarter artist explains, we won't make anything if we don't reach our pledge. We've directed all of our resources to this campaign. You can buy our merch, the old EP, just the new album, or just a t-shirt. We've put together a $25 "Bombproof Package" that's a value to you and a big help for us. And yes, we really will be calling you! There's a whole list of things we're willing to do to pay for this album including painting your house!
So where are you with the record, and will you really produce?
We've already paid for and recorded 'Ten Strong' with APL Studios. Their unique brand of On Location Recording afforded us the opportunity to record with lower overhead in environments that may not have been originally intended for recording, but best suited the instruments and vibe of the songs. We also plan to send a few of the tracks up north for mastering by our friend, the legendary King Django of Stubborn Records at Version City Studios.
When it comes time to print 'Ten Strong' we're going to replicate 1000 copies in 6-panel digi-pack, at $1300 up-front. We'll bring these with us on tour, ship them to fans, give one away at every show, and ship a chunk out to college radio stations and record labels in hopes of spreading the word.
We're committed to releasing 'Ten Strong' and believe our friends and fans will pledge enough to support the cause, so we've booked a local show at our home bass bar 'Churchill's Pub'. On November 3rd, kickstarter pledgers and Askultura devotees will celebrate the new release with us in full force, along with our closest friends and their bands.
That kickass video was shot by our friend Raul Ospina and edited by our very own accordionist Gabe.
