About this project
What is 'Bellydance Unbound'?
'Bellydance Unbound' is a performance video featuring the best in dark tribal fusion bellydance. For the first time, the dancers will be removing themselves from the stage or out of the studio and performing original pieces in a variety of locations of the individual dancerʼs choosing. At this time, the video will feature twelve dancers in eleven separate performances.
Why are they doing it?
To allow the dancers to showcase their style of bellydance in a manner that will allow their performances to be more nuanced and emotive than before. The proximity of the camera will allow them to use more minute gestures and expressions that would normally be lost when used during a stage performance. They can dance in an environment that adds to the story or emotion of their piece without worry that a set piece will block them from the view of the audience. They can choreograph a piece without worrying about the edges of a stage or the walls of a studio stopping them from the range or direction of movement they want. The dancers will also have the opportunity to even use the features of their chosen location in their choreography.
Who are the dancers involved in the project?
Currently, the dancers involved in the project are: Ariellah (www.ariellah.com), The Lady Fred (www.theladyfred.com), Jodi Waseca, Isa Shisha, Lisa Hyde, Natalie Nayun, Raven Ebner, Paige Lawrence, Vulgaire, Anesidora, Deidre Anaid and Dusty Paik. There are a few more dancers that are currently considering their participation in this project and will be added to the list when they do.
When is video expected to premiere?
The video will premiere sometime during the early summer of 2011. We are currently looking at venues and events in which we will be able to present the video on the big screen and conduct a Q&A with the cast and crew afterwards.
How will you know what size t-shirt to send or if I would prefer a DVD or Blu-ray or other incentive variables?
Once the goal is completed, messages will be sent to everyone who contributed to thank them. Depending upon the level of their contribution, we will inquire what size t-shirt they would like or if a DVD or Blu-ray would be preferred and so forth.
Is $35,000 enough to film ʻBellydance Unboundʼ?
Not really, but it is a start. It will cover the purchasing or renting of the equipment and the hiring of a crew to film the project. It will also cover the costs of the filming of the first few performances for the video.
What happens if the money isnʼt raised in time?
If the money is not raised in time, we will not be able to create this video. The opportunity will be lost of a DVD featuring bellydancers in interesting locations and environment rather than on a stage or in a studio, for the first time. The opportunity will also be lost for bellydancers to convey their stories through dance on a more unbounded level. In addition, featuring bellydancers of this caliber and in this manner, may never be created on DVD.
Can we exceed the goal?
Without a doubt, the goal can be exceeded and beneficial to everyone, if we do. As stated above, $35,000 is only enough to get us started with the production, but not enough to help us finish it. Therefore, anything we receive over the goal will help bring us that much closer to what we need to complete the video.
Can I increase my pledge once itʼs been made?
Yes you can! After you contribute to our campaign and decide you want to change the amount you are contributing, such as add more to your contribution or change your incentive, you can easily change it. Just go to Kickstarter and sign in, go to our campaign page, and you will see that the green Back This Project button has been replaced with a blue Manage Your Donation button, click the Project button and you will be able to enter a new amount or choose a new incentive. We will probably be adding new incentives as the funding continues so you may end up doing this.
How do we contact you?
You can contact us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. We do check it and we will get back to you.
Is ʻBellydance Unboundʼ a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization?
Alas, neither this project nor Black & White Pictures, the production company producing it, are non-profits, therefore, donations are raw gifts and are non-tax deductible.
If I contribute, when can I expect to receive my incentive?
Incentives can only be redeemed if the goal is met. If the goal is met, incentives will be sent out at the completion of the project.
Who does the money go to?
Every single penny (with the exception of the fees for Kickstarterʼs involvement) will go directly into the production budget of ʻBellydance Unboundʼ. In other words everything goes to the making of this video and the creation of the DVD and Blu-ray when it is completed as well as the contribution rewards.
Is there a website?
There is an official website in the works. But currently, the best way to keep on top of the status of the project is through the Facebook fan page:
