We've hit goal! If we’re able to pass the $9,000 mark, I’ll hire a voice actor and have him read The Firesteel. Boring commutes, be gone! Anyone pledging $60 or more will get a link to the audiobook.
After losing the love of a powerful oracle, Natt Raymer travels back in time to figure out where they went wrong.
Between the columns of Ancient Greece, under the canopy of the Amazon, dodging fire in war-torn Britain, he searches her predictions for truth. He searches for glimmers of a future. This is a book about the meandering nature of our twenties, the nostalgia of warm love, however brief the experience, the sting of remembering foolish impulses. It’s about the slow dedication it takes to build things and love people.
Read the first few pages
The first chapter is available here. The final text is in the neighborhood of 330 pages.
Hi! I’m Ash. I’m an independent writer, designer and illustrator living in San Francisco. I've done work for Dropbox, Designer Fund, Pinterest and Twitter. The stuff I make ranges from paper goods, angry essays about the patriarchy, style guides for apps and stories. I started writing The Firesteel fourteen years ago, though it was a much different book back then. Writing began as a dare and is now integral to my life. You can read some of my non-fiction writing in Offscreen and on Medium. See what I like to read on Goodreads.
Progress so far
I’ve already gone through two rounds of developmental editing with a professional, polished the plot, combed for typos and un-hyphenated adjectives. I’ve typeset the text and fussed over the cover. It’s just about ready to head to the printer. With your support, I’ll finally be able to publish The Firesteel as an e-book and a hardcover. Plus, you’ll get updates and an inside look into my process.
Risks and challenges
I'm a designer by trade, so I'm familiar with press checks and paper quality. I'll have an exact idea of timing and production once the printing presses start rolling, but I've given a very healthy margin to compensate for this. I love to ship and am excited to do so quite literally for you :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
