Hello friends & fans!
We are more than excited to announce the brand new Ash Reiter record, "Hola". For this album - our second full length - we've stepped up every aspect of the band's sound and vision. We've been writing, arranging and recording for the past two years, and we feel this new collection of songs, is our strongest to date. Now we want to give this record the professional treatment it deserves. Our goal is to raise $5000 to help cover the costs of mastering and printing the album in cd and vinyl format.
The project began when we met engineer Carlos Arredondo at party in Oakland over two years ago. Back then he was still an intern at New, Improved Recording in Oakland, California. Carlos invited us to record at the studio where he had been building up chops working with some of my local heroes tUnE-yArDs and Thao & Mirah. Needless to say the band was thrilled for the opportunity. We began the exciting process of laying down the basic tracks in the studio. Then we took the songs home to make them weird, spending countless hours layering overdubs and background vocals. In fact this is how I really got to know our current bass player, Scott Brown. After moving to the Bay Area and joining the band he spent almost every night for two months over at our house laying down tracks on "Hola". Will Halsey (our drummer and background vocalist extraordinaire) added more bricks to our growing wall of sound adding lush background vocal arrangements and experimental sounds from every instrument he could get his hands on. Meanwhile Drew Brown’s stylish guitar playing united the tunes with a modern Californian style. A small cast of talented friends also added key parts to our record including Matt Adams (The Blank Tapes), James Fenwicke (The Mumlers & Plantain), Erica Fink (Dresses) and Anthony Ferraro (The Lawlands). Of course eventually we had to stop recording and bring our songs back to Carlos to mix- which was by no means an easy task. Only just a few weeks ago we finally completed our last little tweaks and edits. Now we have a ruling record and the only task that remains is to master and press it. That's where you come in…
We are trying to produce the finest product possible, but of course we need your help to finish this record. Production costs land squarely on the band and we need some assistance to bring you our best quality recordings to date. Luckily we have already covered the expenses of recording and mixing the album but we still need some help to bring this little baby of ours out into the world.
The album will be available in standard digipack cd format as well as limited edition red vinyl in a gatefold jacket- the red vinyl will be limited to the first pressing of 500 copies. You can preview some tracks from the album here.
Here's a breakdown of the production costs that our kickstarter will help cover:
Pressing CD’s and Vinyl $3,500
Kickstarter & Amazon taxes: $650
Gifts & Postage: $350
We've put a lot of thought and effort into coming up with gifts that are both unique and fun, and we hope we can count on your support to help us make our dream album a reality! We really couldn't do it without you, so thank you again.
REMINDER: The way Kickstarter works is that you donate funds to enable the completion of a creative project, and in return you receive cool rewards, which we designed ourselves with great care. The catch is that if we do not reach our goal within our 30 days, we don't get the funds. Your credit cards will not be charged until we meet our goal. Don't forget -all listed prices already include the cost of shipping so there will be no added charge for mailing items to you.
