Hi Pioneers!
Welcome to the Kickstarter Page for our documentary Pioneers in Skirts™! Thanks so much for stopping by.
Pioneers in Skirts is a documentary film by women, for women, and supported by women and men.
It's a film that follows our director's personal story of searching for answers after she discovered she lost her pioneering attitude in her career.
In the film Ashley Maria finds solutions for all women who are experiencing setbacks as they are pioneering their career paths, for the allies who support them, and for the next generation of girls who want to grow up being anything they want.
Please check out the sections below as we offer more information about this impact-film and why we need your help.

We have rewards to offer for your generous donations. We want this to be fun too! We'll be posting behind-the-scenes clips, fun update videos, and making pledge challenges throughout the campaign!
This Kickstarter will help our film finish production and transition into post-production. We’re running this Kickstarter until September 19! We have such a great movie here, please help us finish it so that people can see it!
Backers can pledge any amount without picking a Reward. However, we've created some pretty cool Rewards ranging from items such as personal phone calls with industry leaders or the director herself, to behind-the-scenes experiences on set or during the post-production phase. So check them out!
Anyone can follow the Kickstarter campaign and this film on social media with #BEaPioneer.

ABOUT PIONEERS IN SKIRTS
Pioneers in Skirts is a social impact film that aims to advance the conversation about women in the workplace.
It’s a film that follows our director, award-winning filmmaker Ashley Maria, after she discovers she is no longer the ambitious, confident woman who entered the film industry. In only a few years time, Ashley lost her pioneering attitude in her career.
With a camera in hand, Ashley learns she isn’t the only twenty-something that feels that way, and seeks to find out Why?
Pioneers in Skirts is a film that takes an honest look at the solutions for women now, and for future generations. The film uses interviews, statistics and story-telling to discuss career obstacles women deal with, such as biases, stereotypes and wage discrepancy, in the American workforce.
We have answers. We want people to watch the film and have them too.
When complete, the team behind Pioneers in Skirts wants the film to be a catalyst; providing a legacy for people, communities, and companies they will continue to build-on.

FACTOID
A recent Bain & Company survey revealed after just two years of working at their first job out of college, women begin to lose their aspiration and confidence. Both women and men start out equally confident about their ability to reach their career objectives, but after two years in the workforce 34% of men are still aiming for the top, while only 16% of women are.
What happens to women during those first two years? And why?

The study also shows that, over time, women’s aspiration levels drop more than 60% while men’s stay the same. These declines came independent of marriage and motherhood status.
This same survey showed women who have more experience at their jobs also have doubts about whether they can handle the path ahead. They feel alone, see few relatable women as examples, and don’t seem to know where to turn to for advice. Soon, many of these experienced women begin to make other plans for their life.

WHY IS A FILM LIKE THIS NEEDED?
When it comes to gender equity in the workplace, many people think that working women are much further along than they really are. With all that is being written and said about the need for women to get a fair shake in their careers, and with the abundance of studies and popular movements the press is eager to cover, it’s not only surprising that people aren’t as aware as they should be, it’s shocking there hasn’t been a resolution to the problem.
Pioneers in Skirts is a film that is a remedial implementation intended to lead people to work towards correcting a problem of stereotypes and biases many women still experience but don’t know how to resolve.
HOW YOUR DONATION WILL BE USED
We have been able to make this with the help of amazing volunteers who worked for free or at discounted rates in their free time, but now we need to hire a full professional crew to both finish production and transition us into post-production.
Your donation will go towards travel for our final interviews, finalizing Ashley’s storyline as she uses what she's learned to advance her career in Hollywood, transcribing recent and future footage (yep -- every single word that's said on camera must be transcribed!), and hiring a full-time editorial team to help us better organize the nearly 100 hours of footage we have shot so far. We need their help to piece together what we have for the storyline, one cut at a time.
This investigative film began in 2012 with a question: "What will it take for all women to reach their potential in their careers?" Our goal is to finish the film and release it by mid-2016. The lessons in this film will spark real actionable change, so it must be completed and available for the next class of graduating women!

Risks and challenges
Our Challenge:
Completion of the film is targeted for May/June 2016, but if we can bring on more post-production staff, we’d like to be able to pull those dates in so that we can introduce the film at a prestigious film festival in the February 2016 timeframe, and then roll the film out through festivals, broadcast, and university theatrical screenings. We would like to have the film ready for festival applications by Spring 2016 but may need to push that out to Summer 2016, depending on funding.
