Sorry I'm just gutted they take so long till production and can't wait to gest my hands on them :-) keep up the good work really can't wait to try them.
Pushed back to the 2nd Q of 2017 wtf I'm sorry but are you guys trying to drag this put as long as possible? how can your ship goal change soooo much :-(
>we haven’t spent any of the money that we’ve raised on Kickstarter, which is why we’re able to >offer full refunds to anyone that wants one.
Well, there's some amount that already gone to kickstarter. :-)
Some win some lose, sorry can't help commenting on this.
Bryan,
We can't really talk about that just yet but stay tuned!
Mathieu,
We'll have your refund out to you ASAP.
cptpegleg and Lyndon,
Throughout the campaign, we were open about the fact that we’re still in the prototype phase, and that there was a significant amount of work to be done (design for manufacture) to build and ship the beautiful, reliable product that we’ve promised you. We definitely could have been more clear on that, and for that I apologize.
That said, our prototypes (as you can see in our demo videos) were fully functional at the time we launched the campaign and we continue to improve on them every day.
$200,000 is a lot of money but unfortunately it still isn't enough to design and ship a hardware product. We understand that you aren't happy about the delay, and we'll gladly make it right by giving you a refund on request. To be clear, we haven’t spent any of the money that we’ve raised on Kickstarter, which is why we’re able to offer full refunds to anyone that wants one.
Please email us at hello@apotact.com if you have any further questions, we’ll be able to respond much quicker than if you post a comment here.
I think you owe everyone a *considerably* more detailed explanation of the status of the project, how the Kickstarter funds have been disbursed, and why the prototyping and development work cannot continue while you seek additional funding.
Def not impressed you uave to raise more funds to complete?? That's why we backed you so you can produce and ship the item this is terrible buisness practice not impressed at all. Def considering a refund sure there are other products offering similar tech and gest should uave a thumb sensor as well why dosent it? Keep pushing things back so far and you may lose alot of your funding if not for us you wouldn't have made it this far and you tell us because of other funding you can't proceed as planned not happy!
Hey guys!
Thanks for the February update, but I'm afraid I can't way until Q2 2017 for shipping. I was also under the impression that your hardware was final and that firmware updates could be flashed to it remotely.
Please contact me for a refund.
Thanks!
Hey
I am a little frustrated abut the German ZOLL Rules Right now, because it feels like i'm on some sort of black list so they can hold onto my packages and i have to Drive the 40 kilometers to their office show them the Kickstarter funding confirmation and possibly get to pay overpriced taxes...
So i writing this in the hope that future Packages make it to my door.
German ZOLL needs a Bill Taped with an labeled envelop OUTSIDE on the box.
Electronic devices need an CE Symbol on the Plug (doesn't matter if you place it all over it ONLY counts on the Plug) and an German Instruction. else it has to be checked by some other guys and possibly gets destroyed.
Moving forward, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please share them through our helpdesk (https://gest.zendesk.com) or email us directly at hello@apotact.com. We’ll only be periodically checking Kickstarter for questions, so the best way to reach us will be through the link or email above.
The design that we have today was the result of lots of experimenting with different form factors and hand sizes. So far, it fits great on both the largest hands we've encountered and the smallest, and we'll be continuing to tweak it to make sure it fits as many different hands as possible.
We're currently thinking there might need to be a lock and unlock gesture to tell Gest to stop listening for commands. We're doing a lot of testing and will be able to describe the experience of using Gest in more detail early next year.
@StatefulMind,
We're definitely taking all your feedback into account. We know it would be really cool to use Gest with a Raspberry Pi or your Linux HTPC, but we're still evaluating if we can manage to squeeze in Linux support by the time we ship. We'll be sure to keep everyone updated on our mailing list and blog, so make sure to sign up to either to stay in the know!
@Cameron,
We will be allowing you to use Gest as a keyboard (if you bought a pair), but we can't promise much more out of the box functionality for mobile platforms at this time. Something like what you described will be available on OSX and Windows, however!
I am not sure if this has been touched upon but is the team looking into making Gest work out of the box with Android in some way or even better making it a sandbox interface with an app. ie Making it so I could set up custom commands and pair them with an action in an android app.
I know there is the API but I'd rather not have to code it in if I don't need to... Im lazy :P
This may have been asked already, but searching comments is not the greatest (cough, kickstarter?). Will there be an easy way to have your paired device ignore Gest motions? I'm just thinking if you are wearing the device and don't want your device to be taking commands when you are just moving your hand around for other reasons. Maybe this is accounted for somehow? Or could there be a button on the palm side of the strap the thumb can press toggle "listen to commands" and "ignore commands"?
I was planning on using this on my motorcycle with my left hand to work my phone while riding :-)
We'd love to add Linux support but we can't promise it at this time.
@Willy,
Thanks for the input. We've tried to keep our typing system as similar to normal typing as possible so our users won't have to spend hours learning how to use it. We're definitely looking into other ways to type though, so stay tuned!
@Alberto,
While we are capable of detecting the speed of your fingers, we aren't working on MIDI emulation at the moment. We do think that would be incredibly fun for musicians to play with, but we are a pretty small team with a lot on our plate already! We are however making sure that any third-party developer who wants to implement MIDI and other cool functionality will be able to do it easily with our SDK.
@Raph,
That's a great idea! We're making a note of it and will consider it as we get closer to production.
@Otaku,
Thanks for cheering us on! We're happy to have reached nearly 200% of our goal and we couldn't have done it without you!
Seeing as how there aren't that many wood gests, it would be nice to perhaps get them engraved with a "K" logo and production number to really make them feel special and unique in case you really decide to make them again in case gest breaks Walls Street.
Or maybe just the packaging? Any idea on how gest will be packaged ?
Hello, I'd like the Gest to support Ableton and Traktor. Will it have a motion sensor able to send MIDI velocity? Very important for drums and keys! :)
To write with one hand, you could implement something like swiftkey, doing the same figures of the keyboard but in the air.
Obviously, your business model will change a little because we could write with only one device but your product will be better ;)
Or maybe some bindings. Is the iOS code in Swift 2 programmed? If yes, in a couple of months Apple will release a compiler for Linux and open source the language. You could write for linux in Swift 2 and have the same source code base as on an iOS device. Really looking forward to your feedback.
Would really like support for Linux, cause thinking of making something with the new RPI Zero, a pair of glasses and a pair of typing gest. But missed the Early bird pair, so will only follow this project on the side line :-(
We will be providing a way to upgrade your pledge to a pair after the campaign is over, and we'd recommend doing that instead of adding to your Kickstarter pledge. Hope that isn't too confusing!
Absolutely. Add $175 to your pledge and send us a message and we'll make a note of it on your backer info.
@Yarub,
Hope your presentation went well! If you're talking about the drone control, we can't promise that we'll be able to ship that at this time, but you will have gesture control for apps and our experimental typing feature (if you backed us for a pair).
Hi, I finally convinced my dad to back this project .
I'm really amazed by the new feature you added to gest but is it going to be included in my reward ?
(ps: I'm the guy who made the presentation to my class)

@Angus,
That works. If you decide to add $175 now, make sure to let us know with a message or comment so we can make a note of it on your backer info. Thanks for being understanding!
@G.H.
We can't promise really tight integration with music software at this time, but we will be giving you a way to use Gest to simulate keypresses so you can use it with almost any software. You won't have to be a developer to use it either!
Thank you all for getting us this far, and please do message us if you have any more questions.
Gest, will hold you to that regarding the music software integration! ;) I am simply hopeful that at this point in funding, with 7 days to go, and almost 190% of funding received that this would be "stretched-in" at the very least. Crossing fingers. Continued best of luck to your team!
The reason being if those that interested in this can pledge that extra $175 now then it would give you guys a better idea of the actual interest and will also push the pledge amount closer to the stretch goal
We have a bunch of cool usecases on display under the "What can I do with Gest" section of our campaign, definitely check those out!
@Conor,
You should be fine, thanks for backing us!
@Angus,
After the campaign we will give you the option to add an additional Gest for $175 (without having to pay for additional shipping) if you'd like to do that instead. Hope that works for you!

SK,
You're correct, Kickstarter has taken a fee from the money we raised.
We've set aside additional funds to offset the fee Kickstarter charged, so we're capable of refunding every last backer for their full pledge amount.
