CleverDrive
CleverDrive is an intelligent driving analysis system for your car. It evaluates your driving behavior and enables you to drive safer, environmentally friendly, and more economical so you can save up to 30% fuel. CleverDrive is a combination of a smartphone app, a web portal for data analysis, and the CleverLink adapter, a hardware device that connects to your car. The adapter works for all car models since 1996. CleverDrive – the fitness tracker for your car, as we like to say.

For most of us our car is a daily companion. We drive to work, to the grocery store, into our holidays, and everywhere else. Although our cars get more sensors every year, we still use it the way we did 20 years ago. Once you start your car, CleverDrive automatically starts analyzing of your driving behavior.

CleverDrive runs invisibly in the background on your smartphone, but of course you can always launch the app to bring it into the foreground in order to get real-time data from your car. Next to basic outputs such as speed or engine load, you can also see valuable information like your Eco-Index. The Eco-Index shows you how fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly you drive, and the app gives you clues how to improve that. Thereby, you can save up to 30% fuel and CO2. This helps the environment and saves lot of money!
The integrated CleverProtection system offers a range of security functions to protect you and your car. You get an immediate warning when something is wrong with your engine, which might be the difference between a cheap and a expensive repair shop visit. You get an alert if you are driving too quickly when a traffic jam or road work is ahead. If there is an unexpected breakdown, the app helps you to contact a repair service and allows you to directly attach error codes and description.
Once you get home, you can access the web interface and see your individual driving analysis, including processed evaluations, tips, statistics, savings, and CleverDrive awards on the web portal dashboard. For every single trip, you get detailed statistics which you can use to improve your driving performance and fuel efficiency, to ultimately increase your savings. You see statistics for different stages of your trip, and get helpful recommendations for specific circumstances along your route.
Do you like a challenge? Compare yourself to your friends and other drivers of the same car model. Enter an Eco-Contest against your buddies, or achieve something as a team. By the way, CleverDrive also supports external gadgets like smart watches to inform you when you lost the lead in a contest.

We are Ascora, a German IT company with a young international team. We love to do research, test interesting things, and to develop new and exciting products. We have developed applications for years under the brand Abelssoft that are used by over 8 million users world wide. We love nature, our office is built in the middle of a green landscape. The building was constructed to be nearly 100% biodegradable, and it uses the highest possible number of natural resources from the direct surrounding area to leave a minimal ecological footprint. Nevertheless, we all need cars, and we asked ourselves: What can we do to drive better and more ecologically efficient? CleverDrive is our answer.
CleverDrive is the result of years of research
CleverDrive originated from the research project SIMPLI-CITY (www.simpli-city.eu), for which 10 highly specialized companies (as listed below) from different areas formed a cooperation. This means that three years of research have been done by experts in the areas of speech recognition, traffic and behavioral psychology, big data, and more. After the project finished, we made it our goal to take the results, put them into a real product, and bring it to the market. For this, we need your support. Help us with the final steps to manifest our knowledge and make it into something real.

CleverDrive ist ein intelligentes Fahranalyse-System für dein Auto. Es stellt dir Analysen zu deinem Fahrverhalten bereit, um so bis zu 30% sparsamer, deutlich sicherer und umweltschonender zu fahren. CleverDrive ist eine Kombination aus Smartphone App, einem Web-Portal zur Analyse und dem CleverLink-Adapter, der mit deinem Auto verbunden wird und mit allen Automodellen ab 1996 funktioniert. Wir sagen auch gerne: CleverDrive ist der Fitnesstracker für dein Auto.

Für die meisten von uns ist das Auto der tägliche Begleiter, der uns zur Arbeit, zum Einkaufen, in den Urlaub und auch überall sonst hin bringt. Und obwohl unser Auto immer mehr Sensoren bekommt, nutzen wir es noch immer genau so wie schon vor 20 Jahren. - CleverDrive ändert das. Sobald du losfährst, beginnt CleverDrive im Hintergrund mit der Analyse deines Fahrverhaltens.
CleverDrive läuft auf deinem Smartphone unsichtbar im Hintergrund. Aber natürlich kannst du jederzeit die App starten und während der Fahrt neben Basisdaten wie Geschwindigkeit oder Motorauslastung auch wertvolle Hinweise, wie den Eco-Index, erhalten. Der Eco-Index zeigt dir an, wie spritsparend und umweltschonend du gerade fährst und gibt dir Tipps, was du noch besser machen kannst. Dadurch kannst du bis zu 30% Kraftstoff und Co2 einsparen. Das hilft der Umwelt und deinem Portemonnaie.
Das integrierte CleverProtection-System ist eine Palette von Sicherheitsfunktionen, die dich bestmöglich beschützen sollen, damit du immer sicher dein Ziel erreichst. So erhältst du sofort eine Warnung, wenn etwas mit deinem Motor nicht stimmt oder du zu schnell auf ein Stauende oder eine Baustelle zu fährst.
Tritt doch einmal eine Panne auf, hast du die Möglichkeit, direkt über die App Hilfe anzufordern und gleich den Fehlercode und eine Beschreibung mitzuschicken.
Sobald du nach Hause kommst, kannst du auf die Weboberfläche zugreifen und deine individuelle Fahranalyse inklusive aufbereiteten Auswertungen, Tipps, Statistiken, Ersparnisse und Awards auf dem Dashboard einsehen. Sieh dir auf Basis jeder einzelnen Fahrt individuelle und detaillierte Analysen an, mit der du noch effizienter und damit spritsparender fahren kannst. Du erhältst genaue Informationen zu jedem Streckenabschnitt und bekommst situationsbezogene Tipps.
Du magst Herausforderungen? Dann vergleiche dich mit Freunden, anderen Fahrern deines Auto-Typs oder der gesamten Community. Tritt in Eco-Wettkämpfen gegen deine Kumpels an oder erreicht gemeinsam im Team Erfolge. CleverDrive ist das Ergebnis mehrjähriger Forschung
CleverDrive ist aus dem Forschungsprojekt SIMPLI-CITY (www.simpli-city.eu) entsprungen, das sich aus 10 spezialisierten Partnern (Liste weiter unten) verschiedenster Bereiche zusammensetzt. So forschten wir über 3 Jahre mit Fachleuten aus den Bereichen der Spracherkennung, Verkehrs- und Verhaltenspsychologie, BigData und weiteren. Nach Ablauf des Forschungsprojekts haben wir es uns zum Ziel gesetzt, die Ergebnisse zu einem echten Produkt zu verwandeln und zur Marktreife zu führen. Dafür brauchen wir deine Unterstützung. Hilf uns, den letzten Schritt zu machen und unsere Kenntnisse umzusetzen.
Risiken und Herausforderungen
Entwicklung: Bei der Entwicklung der CleverDrive App und der CleverAnalysisPlattform sind wir guter Dinge. Wir haben über 20 Jahre Erfahrung in der Entwicklung von Software und zählen einige der besten deutschen Entwickler zu unserem Team. Dennoch kann es trotz aller Sorgfalt auch einmal zu unvorhergesehenen Problemen kommen. Falls das Eintritt, werden wir euch natürlich rechtzeitig Bescheid geben.
OBD: Die Basis für viele der verwenden Daten und Motorwerte deines Autos ist die OBD II-Schnittstelle, die in jedem modernen Auto verbaut ist. Unser eingesetzter Adapter greift auf diese Schnittstelle zu. Leider lassen sich nicht alle Daten von jedem Hersteller und Automodell auslesen. Daher hat unser Team intensiv daran gearbeitet, möglichst alle Funktionen auf Basis von Daten zu berechnen, die aus den meisten Autos ausgelesen werden können. Dennoch kann es vorkommen, dass das bei vereinzelten Werten nicht nicht funktioniert. Wir haben einen Prozess entwickelt, der es uns erlaubt, diese Daten über andere Hilfswerte zu errechnen oder zumindest näherungsweise zu bestimmen. Mit unseren Prototypen haben wir derzeit bereits die meisten der gängigen Automarken getestet.
Plattformen: CleverDrive arbeitet mit allen Smartphones ab Android 4.1 und ab iOS 8.
Hardware: Wir haben bereits Vorverträge mit Zulieferern abgeschlossen und unsere Prototypen bereits intensiv in die Mangel genommen. Auch an Standards wie CE und FCC haben wir gedacht.
Auslieferung: Wir haben bereits 60% des Weges gemeistert. Unserer Planung nach wollen wir im Frühjahr 2016 die erste große Testphase ausrollen und planen die Auslieferung für den Spätsommer 2016.
Risks and challenges
Development: We don’t expect any severe problems during the development of CleverDrive and the CleverAnalysisPlattform. We have over 20 years of experience in software development (including apps, web development, etc.) and have some of the best German developers in our Team. Nevertheless, there may be unforeseen problems. Should that be the case be assured that we will inform you about all details in time.
OBD: The basis for a lot of the car data that we use is the OBD-II interface (On-Board-Diagnostic), which is present in all modern cars. Our own CleverLink adapter makes good use of that interface, but not all data is provided by every car manufacturer. Because of this our team developed methods that get the data via other means. Sometimes we can use other data and calculate what we need, or we use clever algorithms to do close estimations. During our prototype development we already tested our methods with many common car models with good results.
Platforms: CleverDrive works with all smartphones with Android 4.1 and newer and with iOS 8 and newer.
Hardware: We already made preliminary agreements with hardware suppliers and we already conducted stress tests with our devices. Everything is fine here. Our devices are approved by CE and FCC.
Delivery: We are already 60% to the finish line. Our plan is to deliver the first batch of our products in spring 2016 for the first public tests, and the rest late in summer 2016.

No, our CleverLink Adapter uses a read-only interface to get driving data, and can only send signals. Your care will stay secure and not accessible from the outside.

Data security is very important to us as it is to you. Therefore, we have developed a special security concept and only transfer your data through encrypted channels. Additionally, our server is in Germany, which fulfils the stringent privacy regulations set by the German government. Most importantly, we are not allowed to give your data away to any external party. So no insurance and no other company or organization has access to it.

Essentially your data belongs to you, and you can specify who can see your data. At the end of the drive, specific data about your driving behavior will be transferred to our server, so that your individual driver analysis can be processed. When you want to use the Eco-Contest, in which will be compared to other drives in the CleverDrive Community and given challenges to master, will make specific data, such as your Eco-Index, visible to others on your Profile. We will let you know which information in your profile is available to everyone.

No. The CleverLink-Adapter uses the standard ODB-II interface on your car. Repair shops use the same link to identify errors when you take your car in. No values can be changed, only read out from the car.

That would be the most environmentally friendly way, to forgo using the car and switch to public transportation or a bicycle. Unfortunately, this is not always possible for a variety of reasons. Therefore we are working on environmentally friendly ways to drive, to maximize the reduction in CO2.

CleverDrive is global. We are starting simultaneously in Europe and the USA / Canada, but is usable world wide. Please keep in mind, that parts of CleverDrive are dependant upon your location. In some countries there is less information, such as cheap gas prices in your locality, so some functionality can be limited.

No problem. If you aren’t interested in comparisons or eco-competitions with friends or other drivers in the ClerverDrive Community, you can deactivate this in webportal through a menu. Then you only see a comparison value to the average of all CleverDrive users.

You can reduce your fuel costs by up to 30%, in that CleverDrive tells you how you can optimize your driving practices to use less fuel. Additionally, your car will have less wear and tear through your improved driving style, which will reduce your repair costs. For example, the average driver pays $1,500 for fuel annually.
