WE ALL WANT A PLEASANT RUNNING EXPERIENCE
The Slick Bib is an innovative, high-quality, yet simple solution to the problems and annoyances associated with the use of safety pins at running events.
Whether the run is for competition, supporting a charitable cause, or just joining in on the fun - more and more people are taking part in organized themed runs, races, and marathons than ever before. These events are full of positive energy, fun, and awesome people. There really isn't anything to hate about these events except one thing - having to use safety pins to attach the race number on to your favorite running shirt.
SAFETY PINS = HASSLE
Safety Pins are a source of 4 main problems:
1. Pre-race Hassle & Annoyance
2. Safety-pin Skin Burn & Mid-Race Pricks
3. Flapping & Falling Numbers
4. Holes in Your Favorite Running Shirt
SAFETY PINS = HOLES
1. Pre-Race Hassle & Annoyance
It’s minutes before the race - you are trying to pin your race number with 4 cumbersome safety pins - sometimes not only stabbing yourself in the finger but poking that pristine six-pack you've been working on for so long. And in many cases, if you’re like me - you need to get someone else’s help and they end up stabbing you! Is the race number in the right spot? Is it too high up? Too far to the left? Is it level? Where exactly am I supposed to put this thing?! Above the belly button, or over?
2. Safety-Pin Skin Burn & Mid-Race Pricks
OK...so you have finally managed to get the race number on to your shirt. You are intensely running, being moved by the music at 128 beats per minute, and on your way to surpassing your personal best - but all of a sudden you feel this sharp pain - you look down and “what the #@%?!” You’re bleeding - one of the safety pins has come undone and has pricked you in the stomach! If you haven’t experienced this to that extreme you might be familiar with “safety-pin skin burn,” when safety pins are constantly rubbing your skin during those grueling distance runs.
3. Flapping and Falling Numbers
Getting pricked doesn't stop you - you wipe the blood away as you’re determined to finish. The thought of crossing the finish line energizes you. You've found your flow; you’re passing others. As you gain speed you notice your race number is now flapping around because the safety pin that just came undone has now completely fallen off, causing your race number to annoyingly flap, and even worse, fall on the ground. Your cadence has been interrupted as you stop to reattach your now damaged race number with what has become the bane of your existence in those moments – the safety pin.
4. Holes in Your Favorite Running Shirt
Despite being interrupted and now having a crumpled and torn race number, you subdue your annoyance - you squeeze out that last ounce of energy and WooHoo! you cross the finish line. As you’re celebrating with adjacent finishers and popping champagne bottles, you remove your race number - and what do you discover?! You now have giant holes in your favorite, expensive, and lucky race shirt!
BUT say goodbye to those terrible experiences and say goodbye to safety pins! We now have the solution to give each of your races a fresh start and carry you through to your victorious finishes - the SLICK BIB will change your running game.
OUR SLICK [BIB] SOLUTION
Innovative in design, the Slick Bib is a comfortable running top, with an extremely lightweight transparent pocket integrated on the front. You can now easily slip your race number into and out of the pocket. No more pre-race hassle, no flapping numbers, no skin-burns, and no more holes. With the Slick Bib, you can do away with the safety pins that have been running and ruining your race life.
OUR PREMIUM SLICK DESIGN
The Slick Bib utilizes high quality fabrics that employ four unique technologies: Dry, Sun, Color, and Sweat.
- Dry: quickly captures perspiration keeping you dry throughout the race. Look and feel fresh.
- Sun: with a 30-SPF rating, it protects you against UV radiation. This will especially be helpful during those long runs under the beating sun.
- Color: allows the shirt’s colors to stand firm and vibrant even after constant washing - never hold out on washing your favorite running shirt with fear that it will fade.
- Sweat: prevents the fabric from staining due to perspiration - you won’t have to worry about raising your hand in victory and being embarrassed due to those awful armpit stains.
The machine-washable pocket integrated to the front of the shirt is made of a transparent vinyl fabric that is both light-weight and durable. You, the runner, will not feel its presence.
We’ve looked at every aspect of the Slick Bib design, from stitching, fabric, and fit, and we’ve come up with the best way to implement this next generation race shirt.
There will be two lines of the Slick Bib – one for females, and one for males. From vibrant colors to neutral basics, the Slick Bib will eventually be available in a number of colors.
We are finalizing more color options/styles and will release them throughout the campaign. Feel free to message us for your preferences. Keep a lookout for updates!

THE SLICK STORY
It was my first organized 5K race...I was running late for my start-time and haven't even collected my race chip, shirt, or number yet. Flustered and anxious, after fighting through crowds of people, I finally found the booth where runners could pick up the their materials. I was handed a promotional race T-shirt, a time chip, a unique race number, and 4 safety pins. Apparently I was supposed to use the safety pins to put the number on my shirt?
With only minutes before my start-time I was wrestling with these safety pins to try to get the number placed in the right position. Was it too high up? To far to the right? I gave up as it was crooked and had to get someone to help me. After being poked several times while trying to get the number on, I showed up to the start area just after my group took off. During my run, one of the safety pins came undone, but I didn't notice until my number was flapping around. I somehow finished the race. I was excited to finish but most importantly, I was looking forward to getting these safety pins off of my shirt. When I took them off, I noticed that one of them made a slight hole in my shirt. I thought: "This can't be the only way to do this"
I enjoy running in organized races mainly because I enjoy mass gatherings of people and love the energy that runners bring to the events. The only negative part of my first race and every race thereafter was having to use safety pins to attach the number on to my shirt - I then searched for something to improve my race experience.
After looking into safety pin alternatives I didn't find anything that appealed to me. That's when Slick Athletics emerged thus the conception of The Slick Bib.
YOUR [SLICK] SUPPORT IS ESSENTIAL
With your excitement and support we can bring the Slick Bib to life. Since 2012, Slick Athletics has been working to develop the best design and color combinations for the Slick Bib. We have sourced our fabric suppliers, have vetted production facilities and are ready to move forward. But can only move forward with your support as we need the numbers and the funds to transition into cost effective production. Any funds raised will be put toward material acquisition for large-scale production, labeling, and other costs associated with phase one production setup. Please support the Slick Athletics Slick Bib by sharing and pledging. THANKS IN ADVANCE!
SLICK PROTOTYPE SHOTS
Thanks again for reading about the Slick Bib project and for your contributions.
Risks and challenges
We have spent the last 18-months overcoming obstacles in design, prototyping, and production design. At this point, the Slick Bib is almost ready to go as we are nearing the final phases of design and production specification. The challenge in getting the Slick Bib to market lies in the numbers. In order to move forward into cost effective production we will need your support for the first production run - this won't be inexpensive.
Since we are planning to produce in the USA we don't foresee any major issues that can't be solved in time to meet the shipping target of August 2014.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
