S-T-T-T-R-R-E-E-E-E-E-C-C-H GOALS!! Huzzah!!!
Here are my stretch goals, which I hope will get us to a full 100 backers! We want Pinky pins in the hands of as many people as we can convince that they need a liddle Pinky in their lives!
Stretch goal 1 Huzzah!!!! Stretch goal 1 achieved!
reach $1500 (You did it!!!)
Have pins carded by the pin maker, with a commemorative printed card. This will get the pins to you in a more stable package and look pretty cool too!
Stretch goal 2
Reach $2000 (We did this too!!!!)
Have a custom made embossing die for stamping the back of each pin with “Your Brain on Pandas”
The great thing about this is it can be saved and used for future pins!
Stretch goal 3 - you can do it!
Switch the backing closure to the deluxe model, which is pretty cool, and less likely to snag your clothing than either the standard rubber backers or the butterfly backers.
What pandas and the Panda Chronicles mean to me...
In the 10 years or so that I've been drawing the Panda Chronicles, the characters that inhabit the panda universe have become real to me. Everyone needs imaginary friends, am I right? Drawing pandas brings me great happiness, especially in hard times. What has brought me even more happiness is that you, my beloved readers and friends find comfort and fun in my panda world too.
Enameled Pins Designed by Artists (including me!)
I've seen a number of artist designed pins lately, and I have also collected pins produced by the DC Hard Rock Cafe depicting the DC pandas (Designed by panda friend extraordinaire, Cyndi Anderson). So, of course, I started thinking about designing my own pins, and of course I thought about all of the fans of the Panda Chronicles wearing them and getting that burst of happiness from thinking about (and wearing) pandas.
(Pinky: you mean the happiness they get from thinking about ME!)
Ahem...as I was saying...
While the first pin features Princess Pinky, (Pinky: why do you need any other pandas on pins? dey could all be pins wif da many faces of pinky on dem) my plan is to do pins for all the major characters of the Panda Chronicles: Bubba, Mr. Wu, The Meihems, Six and Sebben, the mobile Fezbook car with the panda kindergarten, Inspector Panda, and of course the Notorious BdP: Babette de Panda. Mehitabel's fans tell me that I shouldn't forget her, even if she's not a panda. There will be NO Mittens pin.
Kickstarter started their January: Make 100 project a couple of years ago, and this is the first year that I've been ready to do this project. The idea is that you create a simple project with a reward limit of 100 items, specially produced for this campaign. This seemed like the perfect place to see if people would really like to have a collection of Panda Chronicles pins, so that they can wear their love for pandas (Pinky: you mean for PINKY!) everywhere they go.
For those of you who might not know how Kickstarter works, here are Mehitabel, Bob T and the panda kindergarten to tell you:
Risks and challenges
Creating something that I won't be physically producing myself is always challenging. Fortunately, the artist and writer community on Twitter is generous in sharing their sources for fabricating these pins, and so I found Pin Game Strong (http://www.pingamestrong.com) that makes many pins for many people.
Since the minimum financially feasible order is 100, this seemed like the perfect place to offer this. Like all Kickstarter projects, if the goal amount is not reached, no one gets charged for their pledge. I'm keeping the pledging period very short because I think lots of people will want these. (Pinky: duh. i don' know 'bout pins wif OTHER pandas on dem)
If more than 100 people want pins, I can work out an order form through my PayPal portal after the campaign, as long as I order all the pins at the same time.
How to deal with the difficulty of Pinky breaking into my project note, well, I have no idea how to deal with that!
Several people have asked about other products with my pandas on them, and while that is definitely on the "to do" pile, researching different products and suppliers takes time. I've been interested in making pins for a while, so have already done the research on where to get them. The other things will take more time to research, but don't give up, and certainly don't quit asking!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
