Art Shanty Projects needs your support!
Art Shanty Projects is now turning to the community for support to continue our program. We are starting a membership program to give our loyal audience a new, important way to participate. Funds will keep the program free and accessible for visitors and fairly compensate artists for their work designing, building and programming the temporary community. The timing is critical for us and we need your help! Check out our video to see why.
So, what is Art Shanty Projects?
Since 2004, Art Shanty Projects has given artists a platform to create unique art in an unusual setting. Art Shanty Projects was conceived by a small group of artists who built a collection of surprising structures on a frozen lake in Minnesota. Since then, the program has grown, attracting up to 19,000 visitors each winter. Annually, 20 artist teams build Shanties and dozens of performances are hosted. Art Shanty Projects has been a catalyst for so much arts activity in the Twin Cities for many years. We wouldn't be where we are today without the passion, dedication and vision of hundreds of artists and supporters!
This past spring, Art Shanty Projects announced its move from White Bear Lake to Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, which is estimated to attract more than 25,000 visitors during its four-week run, weekends in January and February. This is the first time that Art Shanty Projects will come to Minneapolis, making it even more accessible.
Why a membership program?
• To reduce reliance on public and private grants, which have become less predictable in the current political climate
• To fairly compensate participating artists
• To ensure the program remains free for the general public
• To allow loyal fans to share ownership of and participation in the program
• To ensure the long-term sustainability of this beloved program
What’s in it for me?
Membership benefits will include access to special events, sneak peeks of the On-Ice Program, unique opportunities to interact with the artists, and other Art Shanty Projects goodies! Plus you get to help ensure that Art Shanty Projects returns each year and keeps getting better!
Risks and challenges
Historically, we have relied on grants to fund the On-ice Program. We need to diversify our income stream so we can support the artists with more competitive wages and keep Art Shanty Projects' program free to the public. Our greatest challenge is that this campaign is an all or nothing proposition; we must reach our $15,000 goal in order to be funded. We can’t launch our membership program without the support of individual donors. The membership program has already generated significant buzz and we are confident that we can succeed. But we need your help to ensure that Art Shanty Projects does not go away. Become a member today and show your support for Art Shanty Projects!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
