About this project
This project will provide quality affordable opportunities in arts education for all ages throughout the community. This project involves the revival of a 110-seat theater & educational venue at 3010 R Street in Omaha, Nebraska. The site has sat quietly unused for the past few years; however, all of that is about to change. The theater space has been generously donated to Arts For All, Inc. and will be filled with students, instructors, and artists offering opportunities for learning in and through the arts.
This facility will enrich students' educational experience and benefit the community in more ways than one. This project is a perfect fit for students of all ages participating in arts such as dance, film making, theater production, and acting classes. The theater offers an incredible and unique hands-on learning aspect. However, the theater lacks some very basic equipment and requires updates and maintenance. Arts For All has the students, instructors, and facility, but needs your assistance to make the theater safe and functional.
The goals of this project are to:
- Equip and update the space to be a fully-functional theater and safe classroom environment
- Launch arts education and community programming including 6 class workshops and up to 3 theater productions
- Provide opportunities for the community to learn in and through the arts
Students from Omaha and the surrounding cities will greatly benefit from Arts For All programs in this facility. Theater For All will provide curriculum that teaches all aspects of theater and film as well as programs for schools, organizations and the general public throughout the year. This theater will also provide space for recitals, events, performances and the opportunity to work all aspects of a play, such as being part of the crew, working with technology, painting scenery or being a star on the stage.
Theater For All fits the Arts For All mission of making the arts available and affordable for all. Everyone will have a chance to participate in our great classes. We make opportunities available for everyone, including families who may otherwise not be able to afford lessons in the arts. Theater education provides many benefits and includes all of the arts in some way. Give everyone in this community a chance to participate in a space that will help them grow and enjoy the arts.
Thank you to our amazing instructors and students. Visit our site to learn more about our instructors and staff, read about our mission statement and course offerings, or register for classes.
Risks and challenges
Challenges such as staffing issues, promotion to the community, and program satisfaction are faced by any organization when starting a project such as this. Arts For All will face these challenges head on with its proven experience and talented staff. Theater For All will now be among AFA’s nine class facilities located throughout the Omaha Metro area.
Arts For All is confident it will meet its goals for this project. AFA will kick off in January 2014 with educational programs in Theater, Acting and Impov. The new site, officially named Theater For All will also house community theater productions starting with a pilot in November 2013. Three productions are planned for 2014, which provide opportunities for anyone in the community to participate.
Arts For All expects 60 students for classes and up to 1440 participants for theater productions in its first year. To get students registered and engage the community, AFA will offer a wide-variety of arts classes and programs for all ages and skill-levels. AFA will work with partner organization the South Omaha YMCA to promote programs at the new facility.
Projections for revenue are chiefly class fees and ticket sales from productions. Revenue will increase as AFA slowly welcomes additional arts classes and relevant programs that can be sustained by enrollment. AFA has successfully opened and/or operated ongoing programs at 11 sites since its foundation in 2006. Theater For All needs cleaning and equipping it so that it can be better used to serve the community.
