Hi! I'm Elaine, a California-based illustrator. You might know me from the Disney Women Series, which went viral on Tumblr and Imgur.
I'm currently creating The Tempest and the Fire, a Beauty and the Beast retelling of my own.
My artistic passion lies in visualizing the internal mind in an external form. Because of this constant search for meaning, every element in my painting needs to have symbolism and hidden layers, which over time became a double-edged sword.
On the one hand, it lent depth to my work, but on the other hand my output slowed to a crawl.
I couldn't remove myself from the "why" - everything needed to have a reason and a story. I would spend hours researching the symbolism behind props I would use in my paintings, even down to the specific kind of flower that would appear in the scene.
Sketching for sketching's sake paralyzed me. I would stare at a blank piece of paper and not commit a single line because the idea hadn't formed in my head.
So to fix that problem, I started Sketch Tuesdays.
In 2018, I gave myself a goal. I would spend one day - Tuesday - to sketch. My time limit was 24 hours; I could not touch the sketch after that. I would post it to social media and let it go. I did this for the entire year.
My focus was to not be so precious over the work, to let "happy accidents" happen, and have the looseness form part of the story.
This sketchbook is the culmination of this year's effort.
I want to specifically thank my patrons on Patreon that helped my switch to become an independent artist. Sketch Tuesdays literally wouldn't have started without their support.
I'd also like to thank my followers, and also you for reading this far!

Risks and challenges
The book is complete, and the only risk associated with this would be delays in printing and shipping.
I've published a book before, so I'm aware of printing/shipping mistakes and will do my best to remedy them when there is an issue. I am a one-man show, so I ask for your patience and understanding!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
