How very disappointing to see the Instrument 1 listed as "in stock" and "ready to ship" while those of us who were enthusiastic backers get nothing but more shipping delays. :-(

Hoping to get more information today as it's Monday. It would also be uplifting to see some more people receiving shipping notifications since Artiphon said they would "continue shipping smaller batches of instruments for the time being". Finally, still hoping to get a definitive statement on the Instrument 1 seemingly being available at MoMAStore.

    3. Derek am July 15

Sure, if they let us know that they would get them first, but it's disheartening to find from another backer and not from them directly that they are being sold for anyone to buy while telling us "hang in there, almost done" when it was "hang on, skipping you backers, screw you"

    4. Nick Lowe am July 15

As many here will know, but is worth spelling out for those who don't, the MoMA Design Store has for a couple of years now had a key role in supporting and showcasing Kickstarter projects. Their support of Artiphon, whether as mass early bird backers or as part of a separate parallel arrangement outside Kickstarter itself, has clearly been crucial to getting the project off the ground - far more so than any individual KS backer - and I don't at all begrudge them a place at the very head of the queue, whether or not they do in fact have any in stock as per their website claim (which I don't think has been verified; anyone in NYC who could pop in and look?). The first few individual backers have also received their instruments, despite the continuing component troubles, so it's not as if MoMA have eaten all the available stock.

    5. Mihir Doshi am July 14

So the first thing you guys go and do is start selling your instrument-1 to other people and not your backers first and foremost. How much longer do we backers have to wait until you care to send us the instrument-1? I'm getting tried of waiting to get my instrument-1 from you guys just like most of your backers. I feel like we backers have been stabbed in the back for giving you our money and you go and start selling them to your non-backers first. If I know you guys were going to cheat us out of our money I would have just waited until you started to sell your instrument-1 on that site called MoMa or whatever, its called I could have saved allot of time or go to someone else where I could be playing their instrument by know.

    6. Tania am July 14

Thank you Artiphon for ensuring that all aspects of this instrument is of great quality, Glad to hear you spotted a fault in your production line before shipment! I honestly would rather wait another month and receive a great working instrument than a faulty one. Looking forward to making some music on this baby. Much Love from Malaysia.

@Artiphon is logging in to post updates, so hopefully they will respond in this forum at some point. I am backer #189 in the US and was part of the "first 250" but still no news. :(

    10. Derek am July 13

still doesn't explain why someone who didn't back the project can buy one now at the MOMA store, while us backers are still waiting

And I'm a little shocked that Artiphon isn't monitoring this page and answering questions - basic customer service

    12. Jenn Ladd am July 13

I'm an early backer (#57) from Canada: I would like to know why US customers are prioritized when shipping - it's not like you have to do anything complex to mail a low-value package to Canada... come on, Artiphon

Guys, it is not cool that the MoMa store has the Artiphon available for the general public at the same price that we paid a year ago when we backed it - all before you ship to backers. Very disappointed. Delays, etc. are common on Kickstarter, but at least you usually get a good deal as a backer. Here the guys who financed you are at a disadvantage to the people who just waited for it to become available in the store.

@Artiphon - thanks for the update.

Although not stated, it appears that MoMA was involved early. It's quite likely that part of that "arrangement" was that they get a certain number of early units.

I'm impressed with the quality control. Yes it takes a little longer but worth it in the end.

I'm also impressed by how fast Artiphon responds to questions. I asked and Katherine confirmed that there would be a forum set up in a few weeks on the Artiphon site. We're supposed to be emailed when it's ready to go.

    17. Movie Kang am July 13

I'm still on the fence about this. It's certainly good to see the Instrument 1 being introduced to the broader public and an all-around success. And if it is communicated openly and in advance, I might even be okay with units being sold non-backers at the same time that we get ours. What is frustrating is Artiphon staying silent most of the time and not responding to reasonable questions or issues that come up.

MOMA site states "In stock and ready to ship". Very disappointing Artiphon. Its obvious after all your talk about "quality control" and other excuses, it was merely a scam to blow off your backers and get it to higher paying buyers ASAP. You raised over 1 MM dollars! And you can't treat your 3,3391 backers better than this? Ugh!

Has anybody been receiving the first or second batch deliveries? I would have expected to see posts in this comment section of people that had received theirs. Anybody?

    24. Mihir Doshi am July 11

So how many backers have gotten their Artiphon? It seems that its taking Artiphon a while to send them out to all the backers. It seems that they are busy talking to other people about their product than they are getting to their backers first and far most. What's taking so long with the shipping Artiphon?

    25. Avatar fehlt

      Tim Conway am July 11

I urge Artiphon to adopt a more open and transparent approach to communicating with backers. In my experience, most backers, especially enthusiast musicians, will always be impatient to receive their instrument; equally, no one wishes to receive an instrument that is "dead on arrival", so quality control at the factory is obviously of paramount importance.
The thing is, my comments are simply presumptions: we'd like and deserves to know what is actually happening. Manage our expectations with information, please...not with silence. That simply foments rumours and leaves a bad taste in the mouths of backers.

MOMA store is showing the artiphon as in stock. Arrives in 5-7 business days with standard shipping. Looks like Kickstarter backers were definitely skipped in line so that the MOMA could be stocked up. I wonder if any other brick and mortar locations are being prioritized ahead of backers as well.

Really disappointing to see that I could have just bought one retail and had it in hand already instead of paying up front over a year ago.

I perfectly understand your growing frustration, especially since you're an early bird backer. I myself have a much higher backer number, and while I am still eager to start playing around with an Instrument 1, my excitement is also slowly but steadily eaten up by what appears to be a stream of Almost-done-hang-in-there messages without any hard facts.

This just in, from Katherine ...

"...our ship dates are dependent on our weekly run rate which is the number of units successfully coming off of the production line each week. From here, we go in order of backer number beginning with U.S. backers before expanding into international addresses. Because our number of units produced fluctuates each week, we can’t give an accurate timeframe of arrival until the units leave the factory."

So at least we know what's going on. This was good to read! The key phrase above is "...successfully coming off the production line." Its helped some...Thanks Katherine!

@greyskye, yep got an email from Katherine that confused me further and, of course, no firm date. Oh and early bird schmirly bird, doesn't matter, nor does your backer number. What matters to be one of the first, is if you ordered white, have no accessories and where in the world you are located...(not sure what's good or bad about that.) I Ordered black (just started manufacturing) and made the mistake of ordering the accessories when I trusted the company. I probably won't see anything for years at this point!

      From the email:

"In our Kickstarter campaign, 250 units were set aside at the discounted pledge amount of $299 before the Standard Edition pledge increased to $349." (UMM NO THE PLEDGE SAID WE WOULD BE FIRST TO RECEIVE????)

"Our shipping schedule is dependent on a few factors– the number of units coming off of the production line each week, (SO WHAT IS THAT NUMBER?) the region to which they are being shipped (HOW DOES THAT AFFECT WHEN YOU SHIP AN ITEM?) , and backer number. (THEN WHY DID A GUY WITH A NUMBER IN THE THOUSANDS SUPPOSEDLY RECEIVE ONE?) Our accessories take a bit more time to assemble and package up, thus they will begin shipping after our first shipments of standard editions." (AGAIN, DOES THAT MEAN THE ACCESSORIES SHIP LATER OR THE ARTIPHON WITH ACCESSORIES SHIP LATER...OH AND WHEN IS THAT EXACTLY?)

I am really disappointed in this company for treating their backers so poorly. @Mattministrator, right on! It would be so easy to just update us. Loosing interest in the whole thing. Anyone want an Artiphon? If I ever get it of course :(

I've had the same exerience, with both Jacob and Katherine reaching out to me personally after comments made in here. I still think communication could be more pro-active on Artiphon's side, especially when dates announced by the team themselves slip by. Many of the questions raised in here are also quite obvious and could be addressed by the team before they even come up, e.g. giving out less vague information about output rates, the status of the second batch, why early bird backers aren't also early bird reward recipients, whether units will be available to the general public (MoMAStore?) before backer shipments are fulfilled etc.. Still hoping for more detailed updates coming soon. (And hopefully also receiving them via email.)

    35. greyskye am July 7

Hey all, I've had contact from Artiphon about some of the concerns posted and they are responding to 1:1 contact - I've asked them to post either here to respond to comments transparently or at least put out an update addressing the most commonly raised concerns.

Hopefully they do so, but if not and you have questions, I suggest sending them a direct personal message via kickstarter to get your question answered. They have been very responsive to me.

This is what I was just told today by Jacob Gordon:

"we're posting more frequent updates now that shipping has begun, and posting links to them on Twitter and Facebook as well. Regarding the comments section, as you may have seen, we keep the KS community updated via backer updates and many direct communications with backers, and not within the comments section. We're always happy to answer questions on a 1:1 basis, but we're a small team and moderating the comments section can quickly become a full-time job.

The important news is that shipping has begun and we're ramping up production fast! We're all super excited to get your INSTRUMENT 1 into your hands, and we're working non-stop to make that happen."

Instrument 1s are going to be sold at @MoMAStore, as already advertised here: https://twitter.com/b_cavello/status/750471803336663040

That's probably good for business but has me worried that making sure KS backers really are the first to get their hands on a unit might not be Artiphon's top priority.

@jeffrey, Well if you pledged the early bird price where it clearly states " We're setting aside the first 250 instruments for super early adopters" then backer numbers 1-250 should be amongst the first to receive it, yes? Also the "discount" we get was for taking a risk on a product that wasn't even real. We all took a chance to help bring the Artiphon from idea to a manufactured product.
That being said, it would be nice to hear something from the developers. Anything.

    42. Avatar fehlt

Jeffrey E. Cahhal am July 6

I don't think that have a low backer number means you will get your first. Those of you that were early bird contributors were given an initial price break, but I don't think that 'early bird' it was intended to mean that you would necessarily get yours early, just that you were one of the first 250 that would get the product @ $299.

After reading the latest update, I don't expect to receive my Instrument 1 until at least August because I'm backer # 3106 in the USA. I must say that I find it odd that only one backer has claimed to have received his from the first batch back on June 24th and has not made any comment or review since. It would be nice to hear from other backers who have received theirs.

More on-topic, we still don't know if the second batch is currently with @Artiphon, still at the factory or (fingers crossed) already in UPS's hand out for delivery. Or how many instruments we're talking (at least roughly). It's good Artiphon have laid out their logic of shipping, but other than that there weren't many hard facts in the last update.
