We (Roberta Fallon and Libby Rosof of the acclaimed THEartblog.org) will introduce a new audience to Philadelphia's red-hot contemporary art via guided tours on chauffeured vans. The tours will go to Philadelphia galleries that are off the beaten path and full of excellent art. We will capture the visits on videotape and edit them for broadcast on websites like YouTube, artblog and WHYY’s News Works, bringing Philadelphia art to a global audience. Good for art lovers, collectors, artists and Philadelphia’s art economy! But we can only achieve this with your help! We need to match a Knight Foundation Art Challenge award. We have raised more than $4,000, but we need you to help us match the remainder, or all that money from Knight will not come to Philadelphia. We need to hire a van...We need to print tickets and signs for the side of the van...We need to hire a videographer and editor...We need to market the safaris so people participate in these great tours...We need to hire an assistant to help us make all of this happen. But remember Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing proposition. If we don't meet our goal, we won't get a dime (and you won't be charged for your pledge). We have scheduled our first Safari for March First Friday. We've already done a dry run of one of our tours (see the video here)--it reconfirmed how great our idea is. Some smart people from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation think we have a great project. We need your tax-deductible contribution (through our fiscal sponsor, the Miami Foundation) to match the Knight award. Will you play a role in helping us broaden the audience for contemporary art in Philadelphia? Send us your contribution! And come Spring 2012, please come along with us on a safari! (The cost will be $20 a seat, and we have 11 seats available for each van. Tickets will go on sale by February).
