JOIN THE ARTIVIST MOVEMENT & make a beautiful mistake with Art as Action
Founded in 2002, Art as Action is a grassroots movement of artivists, based in Denver, Colorado, whose mission is to use the power of collaborative art to create social change. We invite you to Join the Artivist Movement by supporting Art as Action’s eighth show, beautiful mistake which debuts November 18 & 19, 2011 at The Dairy Center for the Arts.
What is beautiful mistake?
Like past Art as Action shows, beautiful mistake is a collaborative performance premiering original pieces by our talented ensemble of artists. All of these pieces explore the theme beautiful mistake. The passion and dedication of our artists is the essence of what makes all Art as Action productions successful and worthwhile, and the unparalleled beautiful mistake team will make it our most innovative and impactful show to date. Performers include dancers, poets, musicians, actors, visual artists and circus performers.
The Artivist Process
An inherent part of Art as Action productions is in-progress showings, which we call The Artivist Process. Once a month, contributing artivists come together and present their pieces in-progress. Participants offer constructive feedback that provides opportunities for discussion, debate, discovery and brainstorming. This process:
- Operates as an incubator for ideas and a think tank on the show’s theme
- Fosters collaboration and builds community
- Results in unexpected and innovative collaborations
- Creates a collective consciousness among the artivists
Since our inception, Art as Action has provided the support & structure to empower close to 100 artists to produce entertaining, powerful & socially relevant work of professional caliber.
"Art as Action is, by far, the most professional, passionate, and talented group I have worked with. They understand the issues at the heart of the local, regional, national, and global communities, and are using their talent and expertise to help raise awareness of those issues and make a contribution to our world."
- Michael Hines, musician and graphic artist
In addition to our performances, Art as Action has brought artivism deeper into the community by donating a percentage of ticket sales and hundreds of complimentary tickets to local non-profits. We are currently partnering with Parkinson Association of the Rockies and Dance for PD® to bring dance classes for people with Parkinson’s disease to the Denver area starting in September, 2011.
“Art as Action is one of the most innovative art shows to be found in Denver. If you can get a ticket, you will be one of the lucky ones. Thoughtfully provoking and equally charitable, this group can honestly say they use the power of collaborative art to create social change."
- Tammy Abramovitz, Warren Village Board of Trustees, Benevolent Recipient of Art as Action 2010
Art as Action is made possible in large part by support from art lovers, community members & local businesses. Your pledge will provide funds for necessary expenses such as rehearsal & performance space, props, costumes, sound equipment, administrative expenses & promotional materials.
THANK YOU for joining the artivist movement & bringing us one step closer to another successful show.
