About this project
Karl the violinist explains:
Last album we had to put up Danni's apartment as collateral to get a bank loan with high interest. That was three years ago, and we finally paid it off this year.
A band without debt is a happy band - but most importantly, a band without debt has the freedom to tour abroad and share their music.
What is our aim?
Our goal is to create a landmark album, created in our practice space at the former Icelandic power plant Toppstöðin. Our last album was primarily acoustic and featured lush string arrangements; this time, we want to take some risks and try new things.
We've recently moved into Toppstöðin which is a very inspiring rehearsal place. Being an abandoned power plant, it is full of old dusty machinery and vintage magic. This is where we are writing, arranging, and trying out material for the new album.
Throughout this month we'll be making some live videos here, to showcase new music and keeping you up to date with the process.
What do we need from you?
Your encouragement and support. Pledge and get some of the goodies here on the right, and help us make this album happen.
What will we give?
We have prepared all sorts of cool stuff to hand out to our supportive pledgers. For example, we will give away Gunni's trusty Martin DR acoustic guitar, which he has used on stage with Árstíðir from the very beginning.
We are designing a book of photos, artwork and inspiration, as well as a volume of sheet music with arrangements and lyrics from our last two albums.
We have unique limited-edition clothing in the works, such as campaign-exclusive t-shirts and hoodies. For a few pledgers we will even custom-make knitted Icelandic lopapeysa (sheep's wool sweater).
But for those who can't afford guitars or lopapeysas and still want to support us - don't worry, we have great stuff for you too. We will send hand-written postcards, signed copies of our new album, Árstíðir guitar picks and USB sticks - and of course a whole lot more.
Some general info on our rewards:
- All rewards include shipping to anywhere in the world.
- All rewards are packaged with love by us, in our practice space at Toppstöðin, and hand-mailed from Iceland.
- All CDs + vinyls include a 320kbps mp3 download of the new album.
- All the rewards will be shipped September of this year.

Risks and challenges
For our Kickstarter campaign, we decided to set the goal at $20,000. In reality, the album will be more expensive (closer to $33,000 as can be seen in our financial plan). But we didn't want to be overambitious, so we set the bar a little lower than the actual cost of the album, since it can still help us a great deal.
The album will be made regardless, but with the help of you guys through this campaign we will hopefully avoid debt.
What happens after the project gets funded?
This Kickstarter campaign will occur at the same time as we start the actual recordings of the new album. We estimate to be recording in the studio through May and June. The album will be mixed through June and July, and pressed in August.
We'll start shipping the album to all the backers along with the promised rewards in September, and we are determined to keep our end of the bargain and honor our obligations on time.
We are aware that in campaigns like, this unexpected things can happen that might prevent us from shipping all the rewards on time (all the woolen sweaters don't get knitted on time, or there is a strike at the t-shirt factory etc). In this unlikely situation we'll inform every backer individually about the progress and put our hearts into resolving the issue.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
