** Download the brand new song 'Analog Infinity' when you make a contribution to the Arms and Sleepers Kickstarter campaign! Project ends on 23 May 2015. **
Thank you for stopping by this page to learn more about the Arms and Sleepers Kickstarter campaign.
For those of you not familiar with A/A/S, we are a Boston-based music duo that’s been releasing music and performing live since 2006. Max and I (Mirza) have put out 18 official releases in addition to a bunch of remixes, and have traveled to about 30 countries to perform live. Our music has also been used in various online videos, TV shows, and documentaries. In 2010, we did a Kickstarter campaign and successfully raised $2,755 to fund the release of new music and continued touring (as well as some food in our bellies). Five years on, we are turning to Kickstarter once again to ask for your help to keep A/A/S going.
Our most recent creative output goes something like this:
For those of you familiar with A/A/S, thanks for continuing to support our music. We were hesitant about doing another crowdfunding campaign knowing how immensely you have supported us over the years - by buying our music, by coming to our shows, by participating in our first Kickstarter campaign, and by participating in our World Food Program fundraiser ‘Music Against Hunger’ which raised a little over $9,000 for humanitarian relief efforts in East Africa. In the end, we decided to turn to you for help once again because you are the reason we are still here. Many of you have expressed just how important A/A/S music has been in your lives and we have been truly humbled over the years to hear such stories. While A/A/S has gone through many ups and downs (we did go on that brief hiatus in 2012), we are still here after nine years because creating and sharing music with you continues to be a deeply meaningful experience for us.
We really want to make sure A/A/S can keep going, but unfortunately money is that piece of the puzzle without which it is difficult for us to release new music. We won’t bore you with more stories about how it is increasingly difficult to be an artist and make a living from this since you've all heard it before. And we trust that you know how much effort and how many resources go into creating music - that’s why platforms like Kickstarter exist, and that’s why you are (hopefully) still reading this. The bottom line is that the best shot we have at sharing more music with you, touring, and continuing to focus on this project is by raising money. A/A/S is very much an underground project even after nine years of releasing music, and only with your continued support can we keep it going.
There are a bunch of exciting rewards available as part of this campaign, including some older rarities and out of stock items (and plenty of wax for all you vinyl lovers out there). But the focus is on new music and content that we wish to release in 2015 and beyond, including two EPs (a digital release and a limited 12” vinyl release), a Swim Team remix album, a music video for the song ‘Tiger Tempo’, and a follow-up album to Swim Team. (Please see below for a more detailed explanation about new releases and available rewards.) There is a lot of new music that we are working on which we would like to share with you, but this won’t be possible in 2015 or even 2016 unless we can reach our goal. Simply put, your contributions will ensure that we release a bunch of new music ASAP (two EPs + a remix album in 2015, a full-length album in 2016) and, of course, that A/A/S keeps moving forward.
Should we reach our goal of raising $10,000, the money will be used for:
- ‘Tiger Tempo’ music video directed by David Altobelli - to be released in summer 2015
- Production costs associated with the release of a new EP titled ‘Miami’ (digital-only) - to be released around July 2015
- Production costs associated with the release of another new EP, untitled as of right now (limited 12” color vinyl + digital) - to be released in fall 2015
- Production costs associated with the release of a ‘Swim Team’ remix album (digital-only) - to be released in fall 2015
- Touring costs
Should we manage to raise $15,000, the additional money will directly support our work on a new full-length album which will be released in 2016 IF we can raise at least $15,000. The new album will most likely not be released in 2016 if we do not raise at least $15,000. Every contributor will receive an early download of the new album - you will receive a pre-mastered version, months ahead of the official release date. We will also organize an online chat for all Kickstarter backers to talk with us about your reactions to the new album, and you will receive a download of the final, mastered version once that is completed.
Here's a breakdown of the rewards and some words about the planned new releases and other content:
- NEW RELEASES -
1) Miami EP - this will be a 4-6 song digital-only release featuring all new songs. We played one of these songs live on a couple of tours in 2013.
Here's a short clip to give you a taste of what to expect:
2) 12" vinyl release, untitled as of right now - this will be a 2-4 song release (these tracks will be longer in duration) featuring all new songs. It will be available as a limited edition color vinyl and as a digital download and will be a bit different from our more recent releases. One of these songs has been played quite frequently at live shows over the past year and many of you have inquired about it - happy to report that we might finally be releasing it if we can reach our campaign goal.
Here's a short clip to give you a taste of what to expect:
Here's a video teaser:
3) Swim Team Remix Album - similarly to Matador Remixed, we'll be inviting our talented musician friends to remix songs from our most recent full-length album. Some folks already working on remixes are Blockhead, Sun Glitters, Vacationer, and 9 Theory - and we'll be announcing plenty more soon. This will be a digital-only release.
- NEW MUSIC VIDEO -
We have partnered once again with the very talented David Altobelli--who previously directed the Matador album video teaser--to create a music video for 'Tiger Tempo' from our most recent full-length album Swim Team. We love David's work (which includes music videos for Hammock, Washed Out, Philip Selway, Conor Oberst, and others) and are very excited to have him working on a video for this song. This will definitely be a treat.
Here's 'Tiger Tempo' in case you haven't heard it:
- 22 AVAILABLE REWARDS -
All rewards include an advance look at the ‘Tiger Tempo’ music video at some point over this summer, ahead of the video's public release. All rewards also include an advance, pre-mastered version + final, mastered version download of the new full-length album (at some point in 2016) IF $15,000 is raised. So even if you just contribute $1 and we successfully raise at least $15,000, you'll get a download of our new album next year - not bad, right?
Please note that shipping fees will be added to all rewards with physical items below $500. You'll be prompted to enter you country of residence after selecting a reward with a physical item.
$1 - $40 Tier Rewards
These rewards are all about new releases. In return for your contribution, you will receive some form of one, two, or all three of the planned 2015 releases well before they are officially released. The $40 Reward is pretty cool - we'll include your name on the back of the vinyl jacket for the new 12" vinyl release and send you a personalized thank you note.
$50 - $80 Tier Rewards
For $50, you can get a signed CD Collection (6 of our releases on CD, including the latest album 'Swim Team') as well as downloads of the three planned 2015 releases.
The $60 Reward includes the $40 Reward plus our entire discography in a download format of your choice. This includes our latest full-length album, Swim Team, and all 2015 releases (including Album Bonus Tracks 2008-Present and Instrumentals). A total of over 150 songs!
The $80 Reward is a must for anyone that's followed A/A/S for a long time. It includes a download (MP3 format only) of some never-before heard rarities, such as early demos, b-sides, and alternate versions. For example, there is a version of 'The Architekt' from our album 'Matador' with entirely different vocals and an entirely different drum beat. There are also a few early songs (some of the first ones we've ever written) that ultimately led to our debut release but which didn't make it on any subsequent releases. All in all, you'll get about 10-20 tracks in various stages of production that were just left on our hard drives. Moreover, you'll receive an email from us with a short story behind each of these tracks for better context. Every one of these tracks was very important to us as it convinced us that we should be doing something differently. Basically, they were all learning lessons, and we're now sharing them with you. These tracks are Kickstarter-only, meaning that they will not be available outside of this campaign.
$100 - $400 Tier Rewards
For the peeps that love to get physical, these rewards are for you. We're talking a bunch of Collections, stuffed with extremely limited, now out of print items. We have a lot of vinyl test presses here, but also some hand-made CD goodies that have been sold out for years. If you're looking for Swim Team test presses (5 exist in total), you can get them here. If you're looking for that Black Paris 86 2xLP standard and blue vinyl, PLUS a test press (we could locate only 1), this is it. Matador standard + gold vinyl, also here. If you love to collect limited release items and have enjoyed our music catalog over the years, we got you covered.
For one of the $125 Rewards, you can chat with me (Mirza) via Skype about new music (and/or anything else), plus you'll get a super advance download of Miami EP and the new 12" vinyl release (even ahead of other Kickstarter backers). So we'll be able to chat about the new releases before anyone else has actually heard them. And you'll get everything from the $80 Reward as well!
$500 - $1,500 Tier Rewards
Ok, this stuff is expensive, but we hope that some of these rewards would benefit you or deliver lovely experiences enough to justify their price tag. If you wanted to learn Reason tricks, Max is the person for you. I (Mirza) dare say he's pretty nasty when it comes to creating beats in Reason, and he'll sit down with you in Boston (you'll have to get yourself there) or over Skype for 5 hours to show you what he's got. We can also write a brand new song just for you and your friends - and it'll be yours to keep, we won't release it in any way ever. Finally, I (Mirza) will travel anywhere in North America and Europe to do a private piano performance, playing old and new material. Flights and accommodation costs included in the price of this last reward.
Final note: we realize that some of you might be interested in several reward packages that will have overlapping items. If this is the case, just get in touch with us and we'll figure something out.
We hope that you’ll be able to be a part of this campaign, and we hope that we’ll be able to share more new A/A/S music with you soon. THANKS for reading, and THANK YOU for your support!

Risks and challenges
The estimated delivery dates for each of the rewards are precisely that: estimates. There are of course risks associated with increasingly backlogged vinyl production, working with other busy artists who will be contributing to the Swim Team remix album, etc., but we are confident that we'll be able to start delivering all the rewards beginning in the summer and continuing into fall. By the end of fall 2015, all new releases and rewards as part of this campaign should be completed and delivered to you, with the exception of the new full-length album which will be completed in 2016 should we raise $15,000 or more. We will do our best to keep you updated throughout the process and let you know right away should any unforeseen obstacles arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
