Hi! I'm Randy Mack, a New Orleans writer-director/producer. After several years of blood/sweat/tears my film LAUNDRY DAY is in the can and almost finished. It's a dark comedy set in a 24hr bar-laundromat-night club in New Orleans, about a bar fight between a gutterpunk, a bartender, a drug dealer, and a musician, explored through multiple perspectives on a single day. Think BARFLY meets MAGNOLIA.
- Check out Laundry Day's trailer in the above video.
I'm reaching out to the greater community of indie film aficionados and lovers of New Orleans: my goal is to make the best film written, cast, crewed, shot, cut, & completed in this city, so I've acquired sweetheart deals with our best post-production technicians. $9999 gives us bare minimal time & no frills (see chart) to get it done; with your generosity we'll go for stretch goals for more time and for marketing sizzle like key art and posters.
I want to prove that it's possible tell gritty, entertaining, thoughtful, and exciting stories of life in New Orleans without resorting to cliches and horror tropes, as I believe life here is already plenty full of magic, surprise, humor, and drama. While "Hollywood South" does its thing on a cloud of money, I designed this film to give local filmmakers a low-budget template from which they can tell their New Orleans stories on a modest budget while delivering production value, thrills, and authenticity.
Update! The rewards have been expanded— DVDs, Blu-Rays, shout-outs, tickets to our screening party, producer credit, etc. Every $1k raised will unlock new surprises, including new Rewards, celebrity shout-outs, special videos, and more. Reward numbers are funky pop culture references (tip o' the hat to Kingdom of Loathing).
MUSIC: Our soundtrack is a showcase of original New Orleans songwriters both legendary and up-and-coming: The Happy Talk Band, Caddywhompus, Sneaky Pete and The Fens, Sweet Crude, Vox and the Hound, Beth Patterson, Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, Andy J Forest, Jim Smith and the Damn Frontier, Lynn Drury, and Dirty Mouth. Peter Orr of the Fens composed a breathtaking score and wrote new songs for the film, including the hilarious title track.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Candace Jones is working with me to spread the word, so feel free to hit us up with questions, comments, and reward requests.
Risks and challenges
It's possible a vendor who we've made a deal with might move away or go out of business, in which case we will use another New Orleans technician for the task. Worst case scenario is we will be forced to go out of town for the service, but this is highly unlikely. Honestly, the biggest risk is this campaign!
We are very confident in the quality of the film and hope it will become the most New Orleans-y film ever made. All the vendors are signed on, their deals are made, everything is prepped, it's just a question of doing it. So let's do it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
