Introducing Series 2 of our Cthulhu Mythos lapel pins!
Last winter, we produced a set of beautiful lapel pins featuring the graven image of our favorite Great Old One, Cthulhu! Now, we're back with Series 2, a set of premium quality 1.5" pins featuring some of the more notable Lovecraft Mythos Creatures, also seen in some of your favorite Lovecraftian tabletop and role playing games!
These are not cheaply made collector pins like those made in thousands by Mouse-run institutions, but small batch limited edition high-quality pins with exquisitely designed details, hard enamel colors, and glow-in-the-dark accents for real Lovecraftian collectors. As such, they're necessarily a little more expensive than those mass-produced "collector items", but we hope these will become valued heirlooms in your collection.
You can pledge for single pins, multiple pins in various combinations, or spring for the whole set of 5. If we reach our $8000 stretch goal, those who pledge for the full complete set of 5 pins (or above) will get theirs packed in a beautiful custom made jewelry box - perfect for storing your pins or for giving as a gift! For the serious Mythos Collector, we created a special reward level that includes the full set of 5 Lovecraft Mythos enamel pins PLUS a set of the 5 Cthulhu pins from our last campaign packed in a deluxe velvet jewelry box.
Whether you're pledging for your own collection of pins, or to give as Gifts, single and multi pin sets will be packed in a sturdy chipboard gift box. These are just the mockups, to show the pins with their metal details and enamel color accents. The actual pins will look far better! (scroll down for examples)
Lovecraft Mythos Creature Pins
"Hieroglyphics had covered the walls and pillars, and from some undetermined point below had come a voice that was not a voice; a chaotic sensation which only fancy could transmute into sound, but which he attempted to render by the almost unpronounceable jumble of letters, “Cthulhu fhtagn”."
"The figure, ...was between seven and eight inches in height, and of exquisitely artistic workmanship. It represented a monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopus-like head whose face was a mass of feelers..."
~ from "The Call of Cthulhu" by H. P. Lovecraft
This pin features Cthulhu's six-eyed countenance, flanked by a circle of glow in the dark green enamel that proclaims CTHULHU FHTAGN!. 1.5" in height with one off-center post and butterfly clasp.
"For they were the dreaded night-gaunts, who never laugh or smile because they have no faces, and who flop unendingly in the dark betwixt the Vale of Pnath and the passes to the outer world."
"...he saw a very terrible outline of something noxiously thin and horned and tailed and bat-winged. Other things, too, had begun to blot out patches of stars west of him, as if a flock of vague entities were flapping thickly and silently out of that inaccessible cave."
~ from "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath" by H. P. Lovecraft
Our Night-Gaunt is outlined in shiny black nickel, filled with dark purple enamel. 1.5" in height with one off-center post and butterfly clasp.
Mi-Go: The Fungi from Yuggoth
"They were pinkish things about five feet long; with crustaceous bodies bearing vast pairs of dorsal fins or membraneous wings and several sets of articulated limbs, and with a sort of convoluted ellipsoid, covered with multitudes of very short antennae, where a head would ordinarily be."
~from "The Whisperer in Darkness" by H. P. Lovecraft
Done in antique gold finish, filled with various colors of enamel, this Mi-Go is holding a brain cylinder, ready to transport your consciousness beyond the stars! 1.5" in height with one off-center post and butterfly clasp.
Elder Thing - "At The Mountains of Madness"
These are the ancient alien scientists that likely created all life on Earth "as jest or mistake." They feature heavily in "At The Mountains of Madness" and are also spotted in "Dreams in The Witch House" on a distant planet. Their rich history in deep time involves their creation of the Shoggoths, which rose against them, nearly obliterating their civilization, as well as wars with Cthulhu and his star spawn and the Fungi from Yuggoth.
"Six feet end to end, three and five-tenths feet central diameter, tapering to one foot at each end. Like a barrel with five bulging ridges in place of staves.... Dark grey, flexible, and infinitely tough. Seven-foot membraneous wings of same colour, found folded, spread out of furrows between ridges. Wing framework tubular or glandular, of lighter grey, with orifices at wing tips. Spread wings have serrated edge. Around equator, one at central apex of each of the five vertical, stave-like ridges, are five systems of light grey flexible arms or tentacles found tightly folded to torso but expansible to maximum length of over 3 feet. Like arms of primitive crinoid. Single stalks 3 inches diameter branch after 6 inches into five sub-stalks, each of which branches after 8 inches into five small, tapering tentacles or tendrils, giving each stalk a total of 25 tentacles. At top of torso blunt bulbous neck of lighter grey with gill-like suggestions holds yellowish five-pointed starfish-shaped apparent head... at end of each tube is spherical expansion where yellowish membrane rolls back on handling to reveal glassy, red-irised globe, evidently an eye.... At bottom of torso rough but dissimilarly functioning counterparts of head arrangements exist. Bulbous light-grey pseudo-neck, without gill suggestions, holds greenish five-pointed starfish-arrangement."
~ "At The Mountains of Madness" by H. P. Lovecraft
These pins feature an antique silver finish, as well as green, yellow, red, and purple hard enamel, for a striking piece of abominable jewelry. 1.5" in height with one off-center post and butterfly clasp.
Yithian: Cone-shaped being
The Great Race of Yith are beings that, through the use of technology, have cast their minds across the universe and time itself, both to escape the demise of their race, but also to study all the inhabitants of the universe. They are responsible for the compilation of the Pnakotic Manuscripts, which record the lives of countless beings across space and time. While these cone-shaped bodies are not their original forms, it is the form in which they inhabited our planet during the Cretaceous period, before being wiped out by the sinister Flying Polyps.
"They seemed to be enormous iridescent cones, about ten feet high and ten feet wide at the base, and made up of some ridgy, scaly, semi-elastic matter. From their apexes projected four flexible, cylindrical members, each a foot thick, and of a ridgy substance like that of the cones themselves. These members were sometimes contracted almost to nothing, and sometimes extended to any distance up to about ten feet. Terminating two of them were enormous claws or nippers. At the end of a third were four red, trumpet-like appendages. The fourth terminated in an irregular yellowish globe some two feet in diameter and having three great dark eyes ranged along its central circumference. Surmounting this head were four slender grey stalks bearing flower-like appendages, whilst from its nether side dangled eight greenish antennae or tentacles. The great base of the central cone was fringed with a rubbery, grey substance which moved the whole entity through expansion and contraction."
~ "The Shadow Out of Time" by H. P. Lovecraft
Our Yithian features a slick black nickel finish, with muted green, red, and yellow hard enamel. 1.5" in height with one off-center post and butterfly clasp.
Stretch Goal - $8000 (was $8500)
This is a much simpler campaign than our last one. There are no hidden pins to worry about adding on; everything is shown to you right here, up front, to make your pledge decision easy. However, if we reach $8000, we'll be able to make more of each pin, which will allow us to save some money per unit and take advantage of an economy of scale to also produce a custom jewelry box to fit all 5 of the new enamel pins. Backers who pledge for the full 5-set (or above) will get this custom jewelry box free, containing their brand new Series 2 enamel pins. This will make it a wonderful value and the swankiest gift for Lovecraft and Cthulhu fans that they'll likely ever receive!
Series 1 - Cthulhu pins
Grab a set of these in the Lovecraftian Creature Double Feature level! You'll get the full set of 5 enamel Mythos pins AND the 5 Cthulhu pins shown below.
We are ending our campaign with enough time to produce the lapel pins, get them in hand, pack them in boxes, and ship them out in time for US Delivery possibly as early as August 24th, but no later than September 12th. If you are outside the US, depending on where you are in relation to Portland, OR, your package could take an additional 1-4 weeks (or in extreme postal situations out of our control, as much as 6 weeks) to arrive.
Risks and challenges
We have successfully completed 4 previous Kickstarter campaigns as Arkham Bazaar as well as 7 campaigns for the H. P. Lovecraft Film Festival & CthulhuCon. We are well versed in the process from start to finish. Our core business is mail order, so we've already got the workflow down! The designs are ready to go, and all that is left do is place the order, collect your survey, and mail you your gorgeous pins! The only speed bump would be if there were a delay in the manufacturing process, and we would update you as soon as we had information.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
