NOTE: The campaign goal and reward tiers are all set in Canadian funds. When you make your pledge, remember that $20 CDN is equal to approximately $15 USD. Also, there is a typo in several of the reward tiers ($20, $25, $35 and $90). Shipping costs are not included. Shipping for Canada and the US is just $5 on most tiers and will be added during checkout. We apologize for the error.
"HEROES OF HOMEROOM C" tells the tale of Nicola and Albert Hathaway, twin 12-year-old, African-American superheroes, who lose their powers and get sent back to public school to try and have a "normal life." But even in the small town paradise of Tranquil, Massachusetts, the kids find themselves caught up in danger and excitement.
In this first volume, Nicola and Albert face off against a young wizard named Damien LeVey. Damien has recently moved to Tranquil, with his mother, following his parents' divorce. The pre-teen sorcerer enacts a desperate plan, filled with dark magic, that he thinks will let him return to live with his father, a not-too-successful west coast supervillain.
Over the course of the story, we learn how the twins deal with the loss of their powers, their new life in suburbia, and suddenly being something other than world famous superheroes. Plus, is one of the twins keeping a deep, dark secret from the other?
The 74-page story will first be released in both print and digital format EXCLUSIVELY to supporters of the Kickstarter campaign this spring. A wider release to comic book shops and other brick-and-mortar booksellers is in the works for later in the year.

ARISTOCRATS COMICS is a Black-owned-and-operated comic book company, founded by Anthony Ruttgaizer, striving to tell exciting stories while promoting diversity amongst both its characters and creators. "Heroes Of Homeroom C" will be the first completely new publication being released under the Aristocrats banner.
From Anthony: "The comics and movies I grew up on didn’t feature many characters who looked like me. I think it's important that kids of colour have positive role models, both in real life and in the pop culture they consume. Now that I have a chance to create my own comics, I want to make sure that a wider spectrum of people are on display for readers of all ages and races to identify with and enjoy and aspire to be."
"I also want to encourage kids to read.... ANYTHING. When kids read, they learn. About themselves, about other people and about the world around them. If reading comics encourages them to read in general and learn and grow, then we will all have accomplished something amazing."
ANTHONY RUTTGAIZER (creator/writer)
Anthony is a Toronto, Canada-based writer whose comic book work includes "The F1rst Hero" and "Actionverse". Anthony studied Animation at Sheridan College many, many moons ago in the days when such things were still done by cavemen using pencils and paper. He is a former independent professional wrestler having performed across Canada, the US and Europe under the moniker "Kingdom James". Anthony is also a former radio host and stand-up comedian. He currently hosts a pop culture podcast called "The Handsome Genius Club Radio Show".
CARLOS GRANDA (interior art)
Carlos is a Colombian artist whose previous work includes "Geek-Girl", "The Jungle Book" and "Pirouette". Besides handling his own workload, Carlos is co-director of The National Comic and Manga Hall, a group dedicated to nurturing and exhibiting the artwork of local creators in Medellin. Carlos is possibly the world's biggest Superman fan which has gotta be tough after those last two Zach Snyder films.
FRED C. STRESING (colors/letters)
Fred is a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and design. Recently married, he now lives full time in Georgia. Fred's work as a colorist, letterer and cartoonist has appeared in such books as "The F1rst Hero", "Munchkin", "Hello Kitty & Friends","Bill & Ted's Most Triumphant Return" and "Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock". Fred refuses to clear out his voicemail folder so if you're trying to reach him, better you should send a tex message.

Shipping costs for Canada, the United States and all other locations will be added during checkout.
After we reach our funding goal, we will be offering the following "Stretch Goals" if we pass certain milestones. These are all ways in which we will improve the final product for you, our incredible backers.
With your help, the book could grow to as much 90 pages of story content including a backup story about Albert and Nicola's days as superheroes! We could even create an exclusive cover just for the Kickstarter edition of the book. And the more money we raise, the more stretch goals we'll add to the campaign.
Funds raised by this campaign will be used to produce the book's artwork (incl. coloring, lettering and production) as well as the printing, shipping and other reward fulfillment. Any funds raised above and beyond our goal will go towards additional printing, shipping and reward costs, and fulfilling the stretch goals.
As frequent contributors to Kickstarter projects ourselves, we have decided to join Kicking It Forward to contribute a portion of any profits we see from this campaign to support other campaigns seeking crowdfunding on the website. Check them out at http://kickingitforward.org
Risks and challenges
Between us, the creative team on Heroes of Homeroom C has created dozens of comic books, hundreds upon hundreds of pages of reading material. This is my FOURTH crowdfunded project (one via IndieGoGo and now three via Kickstarter). We are dedicated to finishing the book and fulfilling all our goals in a timely manner.
Art for the book is nearly complete. As of February 15th, Carlos has finished drawing 48 of the book's 74 pages. Fred is already working on the colours and letters, as you can see in the preview pages, and I am already working on the non-story pages for the book such as the chapter breaks, the credits page and all the behind-the-scenes material for the Textbook. And, of course, our printing company is ready to receive the pages.
Our biggest challenge is funding. To reach our funding goal, we need to get this campaign in front of as many eyes as possible. So many readers have been left in the cold by the lack of diversity in mainstream comics. We want to deliver HoHC to them and to anyone who just wants to read a quality all-ages comic book.
Please use the share tools near the top of this page and help spread the word about HEROES OF HOMEROOM C via Twitter, Facebook, e-mail, carrier pigeon, smoke signal, jungle drum, interpretive dance or whatever else is available to you. Even if you can't contribute, you can help make this project successful by telling your family, friends and neighbours that we're here.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
