As parents, our desire is to teach our kids to be fearless. FEAR AND A FRIEND is a children’s picture book to spark the discussion of fearlessness, bravery, and friendship. It includes a Letter to the Reader, which is a call-to-action for bold and fearless living. A Reading Guide is also included at the end of the children's book that provides facts, tips, and discussion questions to engage your child with critical thinking, imagination, and fearless conversation.
The world has a lot of labels for "fear". When I was a child, I was filled with fear. That is - fear of rejection - or what Oprah labeled “the Disease to Please”. I always wanted to please my parents, teachers, and peers. I didn't want to be rejected by anyone. As a child, this motivated me to be a high achiever in school. But as an adult, it led to depression in college, and relational dysfunction as a young adult. Life experiences taught me that when we face what we fear we become fearless, or in my life, facing the fear of rejection. The best way to combat fear is through action. And the best way to take actions is with friends, family, or people who love and support you.
FEAR and a FRIEND is more than a children's picture book, it is a tool to spark the discussion with children around fearless living.
Fear and a Friend is a standard 32-page hardcover children’s picture book with original full-color illustrations. It is written for ages 2-7. Though, I believe adults will enjoy it, too.
This is so much more than a picture book to me. I have so many big dreams around the topic of FEAR! Crazy, I know. I genuinely want to see a generation of parents and children living fearlessly.
The follow-up children’s picture book, LOVE AND FEAR, will publish in Spring 2019.
Stretch goals are the funding targets we can achieve if we go BEYOND our initial goal of $2,500. It is a fun way to add more interactive content to the book.
$5,000 - Coloring Booklet - If we can crowdfund $5,000 or more, then every backer who has purchased a book will also receive a coloring booklet.
I grew up and currently live in Montgomery County, MD. I am no longer afraid to do a silly dance in public just to make my boys laugh. I am really good at doing a Cookie Monster impression and laughing like The Count from Sesame Street (which I have been known to do in the check-out aisle to keep my boys entertained). FEAR AND A FRIEND is a project several years in the making. It is inspired by my experiences traveling, dealing with fear and acceptance, and my desire to teach both parents and children how to overcome their fears and lead with love.
