After releasing my first record in 2010 I realized that I had rushed into making it. I decided to take my time and really figure out what I wanted to say and how I wanted it to sound. I've resurfaced with a sound that is much more true to who I am.
This EP focuses more on letting go, moving forward and figuring out what I need. Some of the songs are still about heartbreak but rather than saying what the other person did to me these songs tell the story of how I felt and how I healed. I want this EP to make people feel like they can lift the weight off their shoulders themselves. It's not about losing someone or something, it's about finding out who you are once you do.
We all find ourselves in that "make it or break it" moment where we would do anything to keep the person we love, the dream job, the friend that's changed a little too much, and most of the songs on the EP are about those moments.
Beyond all the lyrics we wanted to give people more than basic sounds to listen to. The band and I want to push the envelope this time around. The goal is that if you took away the lyrics and the vocals the instruments will tell you a story as well.
At the end of the day genre's don't matter, I want to break away from them. We're making an EP that focuses on honesty. My words are going to be clear because I wrote them so they could be heard, but the instrumentation will be just as important. I want to bring together the lyric lovers and the instrumental junkies...they've been divided for too long, it's time to give them a band they can both love and believe in.
My favorite aspect of this campaign is that you, my fans and supporters, will be a part of the process from Day One. We'll be releasing weekly videos giving you insight into the tracks on the album, along with a preview of one of the "undecided songs." Every Kickstarter backer will have the opportunity to vote on the fourth track that will appear on the EP, simply by e-mailing your vote to the address given when you donate. Make sure to keep an eye out on my social media sites for the latest posts and videos! You can connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, and of course my website, and subscribe to my YouTube channel for the updates.
Risks and challenges
The goal of this EP is to reach a wider audience and hopefully get the band on the road to start touring. With the music industry being as DIY as it is, the challenges we face as artists are growing by the day. The Internet is saturated with music, other crowd-funding campaigns, and new artists emerging as we speak. Recording, producing and touring an album costs thousands of dollars, not including the rehearsal time and out of pocket costs to package, market and distribute.
I'm so grateful for all of you, for stopping by this page to check out the campaign and for supporting this journey. I cannot wait to share this new EP with you and the world, so let's make it happen!
All my love and thanks,
