Aria Bridal UK's aim is to create beautiful, unique, customized & affordable wedding dresses using sustainable materials and limited impact on the planet.
Designed and made by myself in a little village in South Wales, UK.
Aria was created as I made my own wedding dress(es) for my woodland festival style wedding last summer in Gower, aka Wedstock. As I have a long history within sustainable fashion design it was important to use sustainable materials and methods: I made my dress entirely from environmentally friendly materials such as hemp/silk sateen, organic cotton, bamboo wadding and several recycled/upcycled fabrics. I also love colour and am usually a walking rainbow so decided to dip-dye the train in a purply/pink. Which is a service I now offer at no additional cost.
I decided I should make dresses for fellow eco-conscious brides who are looking for something a little bit different. So I recently set up my own label called Aria Bridal UK. I am in the early stages of the business however already have a few clients.
I am hoping to fully establish the label with backing from funders like you. Sustainable materials are very expensive and an additional financial barrier for setting up a sustainable design label, so aim to use the funds from Kickstarter, if successful, to buy the most sustainable and ethical materials from around the world with full traceability of my supply chain. I would also like to attend bridal and trade shows if I am able to raise above my goal.
Previously I was a founding member of the Ethical Fashion Forum‘s Fellowship 500, Source Directory and the Fair Wear Foundation. I am now a founding member of the Common Objective, putting 10 years of EFF work into practice. This is why I also donate 30% of all profits to sustainable causes, including the Environmental Justice Foundation and Fashion Revolution.
Sustainable fashion should not be exclusively attainable for the rich or elite. It should be for us all. I now continue to design for the love of making, not profit and that is why my dresses are affordable to all.
So this is Aria Bridal UK.
Risks and challenges
Having worked in the design industry for over 13 years, with the majority being in sustainable fashion I am fully prepared for the challenges that face a start up label. I currently design and make each item myself and hope that over time I will be able to employ others to make them for me. I would have to ensure all production is local at this early stage and should i need to produce larger quantities I would ensure that my practices are full transparent including both Tier 1 and Tier 2 production.
My biggest challenge however is financial as the materials I use are 10 times for expensive than other similar non-organic items however I feel this is worth it.
I'd like to thank you so very much for viewing my Kickstarter page and genuinely hope you will help me to realise my goal!
