No Living Man - And New Heroes Are Coming!

Posted by Ares Games (Creator)

Yesterday was a great day - the Gremlins were on guard in our Keep in the Kickstarterlands, while Ares had to be away from the keyboard as entirely un-Kickstarter related stuff took precedence for a few hours. But you were not idle at all, and we whizzed past not one, but TWO stretch goals!

At 420K, we unlocked the Draugr, a new ACT II enemy, and the count of miniatures in our project (excluding add-ons) is now more than 100!

"What you are, we were... what we are, you will become!" The thin veil separating the world of the Living from the Underworld has been torn apart, and the prophecy says, "when the Dead walks among the Living, Ragnarok is upon us..." Many of the most powerful warriors of the Northern Lands are walking the frozen wastes as unstoppable Draugr, undead creatures, unfeeling and indifferent, oblivious to wounds and pain, and with a single focus in what is left of their minds: "Life must Die."

This goal adds to your rewards a new ACT II opponent: 2 blue Draugr Enemy miniatures, 2 green Draugr Enemy miniatures (in the Challenge set), and their Enemy scrolls and Enemy cards.

And at 430K in funding, we are offering you a new Quest to play in ACT II, Dark Heart of the Forest...

Journey deep into the Northern Lands...
Journey deep into the Northern Lands...

To stop the Ragnarok prophecy from being fulfilled, Heroes must roam the Northern Lands, from the coldest mountains to icy rivers, and will have to travel deep into the dark heart of the forest, a place where no living man or woman dares to enter anymore... But you are no living man... you are an Immortal Hero!

The Twilight of the Gods can still be stopped, but the end of our Kickstarter is near - and we are finally ready to present you our last add-ons.

As we explained in Update #18 the alternate figures we designed for the Core Set Heroes are now offered as an optional add-on... and here they are!

Five fully playable Heroes included in this pack
Five fully playable Heroes included in this pack

This add-.on includes 5 fully playable Heroes:

  • 5 miniatures
  • 5 Soul Gems
  • 5 Deluxe Hero Sheets
  • 5 decks of Hero Power Cards
  • tokens

Each Hero has the same class as one matching Hero included in the Ancient Chronicles Core Set. Using this Alternate Hero pack you can play with two Heroes of the same class (or with the two different versions of the Hero) in the same game.

You can customize each Hero using a different "Traits" card (included with each Hero in Ancient Chronicles) or a different "Background" card (from the appropriate deck).

As an optional add-on, you can also include the set of Ghost Soul forms of the characters.

Sculptures are still WIP. Mock-up of the figures based on the concepts are shown here.

This add-on includes a set of 5 ready-to-play Hero miniatures, to use to represent the Ghost Soul Form of the Hero, or as a painter's set.

Note: You can notice the total cost of the two add-ons is much less than 5 "normal" Hero Packs. This reflects the fact that there is much lower development time associated to them (ad the gameplay is the same as an existing Hero), and the fact that they are offered together, to be produced in the same quantity, We will not be able to offer individual Heroes from this pack as separate add-ons.

You can include optional add-ons such as Alternate Hero Pack and  Alternate Hero Ghosts using the "Manage your pledge" button, appearing on the project page. You keep the same reward level selected - and you simply designate a higher dollar amount. So, if you want to add $25 for these two sets to your $120 pledge, simply keep the same reward level, but make your pledge $ 145.

When the Kickstarter is over, you will have an opportunity to designate how to use your pledge in our Pledge Manager (to be activated on a few weeks after the campaign ends). It is not mandatory that you increase your pledge now. It will still be possible to include add-ons using the Pledge Manager after the end of the campaign. However, each dollar pledged now will help the project to achieve more goals!

In the next update, we will look at how the social stretch goals are unlocking and what you can still do to support the campaign in its final days. And tomorrow, we will talk about the famous "all-in" bundles many of you are asking for.

Thanks for your legendary support, and have a great sunday with friends and family!

Will the alternate gender add-on have an additional tiger figure for the scout/ hunter in order to be able to play with both heroes and their companions?

    2. Justin Boehm

@Ares yeah I'd totally like to see the traits as something not specifically attached to heroes, but as something modular where you can choose a trait or something as well as your hero separately.

      @Ares Games
I'm glad the vote mattered to some degree. Good idea to consult make it an option but not force it.

Nice! This is a great solution and my game group is ecstatic about (and demanding!) these add-ons!

I am excited and upset for now I am going to have to add more to my pledge. LOVE the first game of Sword and Sorcery and looking forward to this one and was mad I could not get all of the first one that I dont want to miss out on this one. My friends like Sword and Sorcery more than Gloomhaven and I would agree.

So trait cards are basically the same as background talents, just now you get one of each?

    7. Horfrost3 on

Thanks! They all look great, I think my friend who always plays a Dwarf will be stoked to have a female option!

#Traits cards - traits include "physical" features such as "Dark Vision" "Strong build" "Acute Hearing" and so on. So there will be a different trait card for each hero, and each card is self-balancing. We will look into the possibiity of including Traits as separate cards, and not just bundled together with the Heroes themselves.

@Tom the vote - asking if they were to be included as STRETCH GOALS was very split on FB (49 yes / 51 no) and more on the "no" side on BGG (roughly 20 yes / 60 no / 20 "ok but we'd rather not"). So we ruled them out as SGs and made them optional.

I am surprised there are no nemesis figures included like the other character packs.

So will the "Traits" cards need the purchase of the alternate hero packs/the hero double packs in case of the two multi gender heroes or will they be included in the base game/also in the single hero packs?

What are trait cards anyhow? Are they generic like the background cards or will they be be class specific? Can you give an example of 'different builds' of the same class due to different trait cards?

    12. Dominic on

All in with a cheeky discount would be nice for sure!

    13. Thomas Yates on

What was the end vote percentages for the gender heroes, I forget?

    14. Ares Games 11-time creator on

@Herbert - firts, Neutral Heroes may have alternate classes. Second, there is an optional rule to allow you to play Law and Chaos in the same party.

    15. Ares Games 11-time creator on

@Charalampos may be we will create them, in the future!

    16. Herbert Geekswain on

I understood that you can’t play Law and Chaos in the same party - how then is it possible to play “or with the two different versions of the Hero) in the same game.”?

      Have I misunderstood something?

OK since these heroes have their own cards I want heroes I already have from 1st KS of their opposite gender!!
