Frequently Asked Questions
Yes you can. Ancient Chronicles is compatible with the previous products, but it is completely independent and no previous products are required to play.Last updated:
Everything from the previous Kickstarter, except the Tristan Hero, is now available at retail - or soon will be.Take a look at our website (http://www.aresgames.eu/games/sword-and-sorcery-line). If you love this game, and to help its continuing success, support your favorite game store and get the Immortal Souls core set and expansions there!Last updated:
Ancient Chronicles is designed to function as a stand-alone product. It is fully compatible with Immortal Souls (so you can play any Hero in either campaign, for example). Only a very small number of components are the same in both games (essentially, dice and a few tokens). Creating two different versions of the Kickstarter Editions, with minimal differences between them, would be more costly than the reduction in production price we would have by removing them.Last updated:
This Kickstarter is for the English edition of the game. Given the amount of language-dependent content, multiple languages are not possible. Our partners (Devir, Asmodee Germany, GaGa Games) are committed to release the retail version of the game in their respective countries, and during the course of 2019 they will complete the retail release of the Immortal Souls cycle,Last updated:

Does the retail version of Immortal Souls include items which were not part of the previous Sword & Sorcery Kickstarter?

GRPR106 Sword & Sorcery - Onamor Hero Pack
GRPR107 Sword & Sorcery - Volkor Hero Pack
GRPR108 Sword & Sorcery - Victoria Hero Pack
GRPR109 Sword & Sorcery - Custom Dice Pack
GRPR110 Sword & Sorcery - Doors & Chests
GRPR111 Sword & Sorcery - Metal Coins

Tristan, a KS exclusive, is not (and will not) be available at retail. It is available again as an add-on in this KS for backers who request it,Last updated:
What are the differences between the current retail edition of Sword & Sorcery and the contents of the previous Kickstarter?
The Immortal Souls Kickstarter Edition included in a single bundle many products which later released at retail, received by backers earlier, at a reduced cost, and with several upgrades which are not included in the retail edition (see "Does the retail version of Immortal Souls include items which were not part of the previous Sword & Sorcery Kickstarter?") Differences are:
- the retail edition has multiple boxes (unavoidable, as they are multiple products);
- a printed booklet for Arcane Portal instead of a PDF (which was offered to all backers requesting it at just the cost of shipping and handling);
- some tiles, which were double sided in the KS edition (Arcane Portal on one side and Darkness Falls on the other side) have been split as two separate set of tiles, as they are a component of separate products. But the back of those tiles is just cosmetic, and not necessary to play any Quest.Last updated:
I would like to go all-in with this Kickstarter, but I am worried I cannot afford it this month! What can I do?
All pledges are welcome. Pledge an amount you feel comfortable with - you will be able to upgrade your pledge using the Pledge Manager, when it is online.
Please note, however, that stretch goals are only unlocked by pledges done during the Kickstarter.Last updated:
With the Challenge Set, we introuduced a new dimension to create more different enemies.
EXAMPLE: Look at Raiders in Immortal Souls campaign: you get a weak missile fighter (green Raider) and a strong melee fighter (Blue Raider).
Using the "challenge system" of Ancient Chronicles, with the Challenge Set included, the equivalent line-up in the new season would be:
A weak missile fighter (Green Crossbowman) + a strong missile fighter (Blue Crossbowman, in the Challenge set), a strong melee fighter (Blue Swordsman) + a weak melee fighter (Green Swordsman, in the Challenge set). And instead of using the same figures for the missile and melee fighter (like we did in Immortal Souls) in Ancient Chronicles we now have two different ones.
Twice as many different monsters, differentiated by their stats, and not just by a different AI/gameplay.Last updated:
The cost of the "shipping" in Europe covers shipping AND TAXES. In fact, it does not really fully cover the sum of both costs (and the same happens with other countries - our shipping charges are always estimated in favor of the backers, and cover about 60% of the actual shipping cost).
Specifically: We ship from Germany, where VAT is 19%. This means that a pledge of $ 120 is subject to a VAT of $ 22. The actual shipping to Germany may be around $ 10-$ 15.
So our actual cost (shipping + taxes) is about $ 35 - but we only ask $ 20 to backers (current estimate, actual cost might vary slightly).Last updated:
I am a backer of your previous Kickstarter campaign, and I am interested in the Arcane Portal printed booklets. Is there still a way to get them?
Yes. When we produced the retail version of Arcane Portal, we printed extra booklets to service backers who requested them (at the cost of shipping and handling, a flat fee of $ 10).
Given that it looks like there is still a significant number of backers interested them, we will offer the booklets again as an add-on in the pledge manager, at the same cost ($ 10).Last updated:
I am a backer of your previous Kickstarter campaign, and I am interested in the Arcane Portal tiles included in the retail version. Is there still a way to get them?
You do not need those tiles! You already have them (see "What are the differences...?" above)
The tiles included in the retail version of Arcane Portal do not differ from the tiles included in the Kickstarter edition.
Some tiles, which were double sided in the KS edition ("Arcane Portal" on one side and "Darkness Falls" on the other side) have been split as two separate set of tiles, as they are a component of separate products. But the back of those tiles is just cosmetic ("side B" has been printed with a color variant of "side A", instead of leaving it blank), and not necessary to play any Quest. As they have been separated, the retail edition tiles also have different numbering than in the KS edition.
So if you get "retail tiles" they wil really be a copy of what you have already - just with different numbers!
If you are still convinced you want a duplicate of the tiles, and a duplicate of the booklets - and considering the shipping cost to send them to you - we definitely recommend you just get a copy of Arcane Portal from your favorite shop - it iwll be cheaper and you will also get extra miniatures and cards!Last updated:
Only funds collected during the actual Kickstarter campaign determine the achievement of stretch goals. You are welcome to increase your pledge using the "Pledge Manager" after the end of the Kickstarter, but these additional funds do not count for the purpose of Stretch Goals.Last updated:
