But why is this all in New Zealand Dollars when the project is based in Los Angeles, you ask? Good question! Because globalisation and immigration law! I’m a New Zealand citizen who lives and works in Los Angeles, but I’m not a Permanent Resident of the US. In order to set up a project in US Dollars, I would need to set up an account with Amazon Payments, and that service is only available to Citizens or Permanent Residents of the US.
For non-US backers, this should make no difference at all. For US backers, the Kickstarter check out process might be different, and you get – as a free bonus! – taste of my life as a global citizen who has to deal with multiple currencies, cultures and dialects!
Globalisation. Trans-national complexity. Corporate regulation. It’s a fitting twist for a cyberpunk game!
