A quick preliminary word! As you probably know, we publish the quarterly Cthulhu Mythos gaming magazine The Unspeakable Oath and the ebook edition of the Cthulhu Mythos Encyclopedia. Both of those are up for Ennie Awards. Anyone can vote for them to receive the awards, and today is the LAST DAY of voting. Vote now! Select the number “1” for each of them — the Oath in Best Aid/Accessory and the Encyclopedia in, oddly, Best Software. And please spread the word fast to any and all your friends who may have similar proclivities. Every single vote makes a difference. Thank you.
And now . . .
We are very pleased to announce that The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man begins shipping from the printer this week! We expect the books to reach the U.S. warehouse around August 13 and the U.K. warehouse around August 20. They’ll start shipping to your doors a few days after reaching each warehouse.
We will have some copies at GenCon in mid-August. If you want to pick yours up from us at GenCon rather than having it mailed to you, please let us know by sending us a Message via the project’s Kickstarter page. Include the word GENCON in the message so we can spot it easily.
Send that instruction right away — no later than Friday, August 9th — so we have time to change the delivery instructions.
Changes of Address
If you have moved since the end of the Kickstarter campaign, send us a message at the project’s Kickstarter page with your new mailing address. Again, please send it by August 9th so we can update it in time. Include the word ADDRESS in the message so we can spot it easily.
(If you have already sent us a Message with the new address, you don’t need to send it again.)
Shipping in Paperback
Now, the bad news. During the fundraiser we planned to ship all copies of The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man in hardcover. We must deliver it in paperback instead.
Originally, the book was going to be 128 pages. The final book is 296 pages long — more than twice as big as we planned! At the same time, international shipping costs took a steep hike over the past year. Taken together, that means the costs of printing and delivering it in hardback would be a couple of thousand dollars more than our original estimates.
So, every backer who signed up for a Dead Tree Edition will get it in paperback. Of course, the paperback is nearly 300 pages long and has a cover price of $40, so KS backers are still coming out ahead of the rest of the world.
But we’re taking one further step to do right by you. We will set up a hardback version that will be available by print on demand at DriveThruRPG.com and RPGNow.com. Every backer who signed up for the Dead Tree Edition of Sense at Kickstarter will get a code to order the hardback at cost. That’ll be about $12 plus shipping and handling. We won’t see a penny of that — it just pays for printing and delivery. That offer will be available ONLY to Dead Tree backers. Everyone else who orders that premium hardback edition of Sense must pay full price.
We’re not crazy about the fact that we must ship something not exactly the same as we planned. We understand some of you might feel the same way. If you absolutely cannot abide getting The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man in paperback and you want a refund instead, we will provide one. Just send a message via the Kickstarter project with the word REFUND in the message somewhere. Tell us how much of a refund you want -- whether it’s the full amount or perhaps a partial amount if you’re enjoying the PDF. We’ll send it by Amazon Payments or PayPal, whichever you prefer.
Finally, if you have any friends who would like The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man and weren’t in on the Kickstarter project, they can order it now in PDF or in paperback with a free PDF download. It’ll ship to them as soon as we deliver it to backers.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know. We will do everything we can to address them.
Thank you again for your generous support of The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man, and your kind patience as the book came together. May it give you and your fellow gamers many nights of wonder and terror.
