What is ArcDanz
ArcDanz International Dance Program is a 2 week summer dance intensive held at Universidad de las Americas Puebla in San Andres Cholula, Puebla, Mexico. Every year Mexican and international guest artists and students come together to study under a rigorous professional training model, learn repertory and create new choreographic work. The program culminates with final showings of the work at both the University and the iconic Museo Soumaya in Mexico City.
Thanks to the support of UDLAP, Museo Soumaya, US Embassy in Mexico City, Roufa Studio, Mikey's Hook Up, Storkie, Yema, Aulio, Jesus Morales, Bosque Negro, Fundación Arte Pro, and GAS TV the program has been able to host outstanding guest artists such as Karen de Luna Fors, Katya Robledo & Mauricio Nava from Mexico, Doron Raz from Israel and Charlotte Griffin, Ray Eliot Schwartz & Take Ueyama from USA.
Now in it's 5th year, ArcDanz is honored to have Andrea Weber, former dancer with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, to teach Cunningham Technique® and Repertory. And Angel Arambula who directs Lux Boreal; one of Mexico's most prominent dance companies.
We are fundraising $5,000 dollars to bring Andrea Weber from New York City, Angel Arambula from Baja California and students from the United States to ArcDanz in Mexico this summer.
Your support can make this happen. Thank you for taking the time to learn about ArcDanz and considering making a pledge.
What makes ArcDanz unique is that it brings together mainly Mexican and artists from the U.S.A. and dancers to work very closely and intensely focusing on artistic exchange but because it is a very small program with 30-40 people it renders a tremendously rich cultural experience. It bridges the dance communities of Mexico and the States giving U.S. students the chance to experience life abroad, Mexican students access to U.S. artists they would otherwise never have, and all guest artists an international platform.
U.S. students come and feel that life has changed, Mexican students discover the unthinkable and the guest artists can explore different dynamics from where they come from.
When you support Andrea Weber you are helping the Cunningham legacy reach countries where it is rarely available. When you support Angel you are increasing the cultural exchange that happens. When you support our student scholarship fund you are helping American students experience life abroad whilst continuing their professional training.
Everything is in place and has been cultivating for the past five years, the timing is right to bring Andrea Weber and host many more U.S. students than before. ArcDanz is an independent tuition income based project. The program is held in Mexico and kept on a Mexican economy scale therefore tuition is $550 dollars per student. ArcDanz receives in kind support from major institutions that make it all possible however now we just need some cash flow support to cover the inclusion of Cunningham work, guest artist travel and student scholarships.
The work we have been doing has had lasting positive impact and we are excited to see more of it with your pledge.
Half of the funds will support the guest artists and half will support the student scholarship fund.
Risks and challenges
The challenges that ArcDanz expriences are:
- In it's efforts to bring established guest artists as an independent entity in a third world economy there is a gap in the fee structure of what large dance organizations in the first world economy expect in exchange for their work being taught in the program
- Each year many students want to participate but most require some form of financial assistance to be able to cover their tuition plus travel and living expenses for two weeks
- (30 days)
