Dice Aurora is a web app that allows you to create your own unique dice sets by arranging different styles into unique auroras of dice. Starting a new character? Create a dice aurora with a color palette that fits your role or personality. Need a unique gift for a party member? Build an aurora that you think represents them best or let them jump into the tool and create their own.
By backing this project you will be able to build and receive a dice set that is unique to you or your character. On top of that, you can share your designs for others to see. If your design is a hit, you unlock rewards. We will also be running monthly contests where you design color schemes based on specific themes. Winners will be chosen based on their color choices, naming and descriptions and will receive prizes such as dice sets, trays and other items from Arcane Goods.
If funding succeeds, we hope to continuously add dice options to provide even more unique combinations as the collection grows.
The below screenshots are from an early version of the web app and are not final. The product photos are rough and the end product will be much cleaner overall.
Can I design sets without having to buy them?
Absolutely. We want to create Dice Aurora to be a fun tool to play around with in your free time and not just a dice shop. In the future we want to add features that allow you to share the dice sets you find outside of our selection as well so that our app becomes a great place to find the perfect set.
How many different dice options are available at launch?
We plan to have around ~50 styles at minimum. This allows for over 99 million different color combinations in a 7 dice set. We aimed most of the stretch goals at providing additional options so this number can quickly grow as the project progresses.
How will the dice options be decided?
We will be aiming to get the most unique and interesting sets we can procure. Our plan is to reach out to several different dice creators to partner on the project. Once we know how many different styles we are able to order we will also be putting it up to community vote in the Kickstarter updates.
When do I get to design my set and how long after before I receive it?
If funding succeeds, we hope to get to work right away on finishing up the set builder and social features on the web app. The next step will be sourcing the various dice sets and styles, photographing each style and doing the final testing in the set builder. Once that is complete we will open up access to start creating and saving designs. Once you have a design you like, you can order it using a digital code we will be sending based on your backer level. After that, it will take a few weeks for us to assemble, pack and ship your set.
How will the theme contests work?
We will decide a theme at the beginning of each month and the most liked or purchased sets using that theme will receive rewards. The themes will be something like dragons, nature, specific classes, etc.
Why do the dice sets cost more than a usual set?
We realize the dice sets are priced a bit higher than a typical set but we believe there are several differences that make it worth the premium. First, the web application itself requires funds to maintain. Also, each dice set will come in a beautiful, gift ready box instead of the typical plastic container or bag. There is also quite a bit of additional work required to assemble each set as they are being hand picked and packed each time. And lastly, we are hoping to provide unique and interesting dice designs from various sources that you won't find at your typical hobby store.
How many sets can I create?
You can create unlimited private sets with no requirement to purchase. Once you decide you are ready to purchase your creation, you are only a few clicks away from doing so. Publicly shared creations are limited to two per week to limit contest entries and prevent one person from spamming the gallery with their sets.
Will you include metal dice?
We may include that as a stretch goal if the project is well received but at this time the extra sourcing and development required is out of scope.
How will the funding be spent and what is the timeline?
Risks and challenges
We learned a lot from the first Kickstarter that we ran and will be using that experience to ensure this project meets expectations. This project relies heavily on stretch goals to make sure there is a broad selection of dice styles to choose from. That means the more the project succeeds, the better the end results will be. If we just barely meet the goal, there is some risk in having a smaller pool of dice to select from but we set the minimum goal amount to allow for a wide enough selection that you should be able to really let your creativity flow when creating combinations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
