Hello everyone, and welcome to my Kickstarter page! My name is Andrew and I am the solo dev behind the project! I have been working on GTTOD for a little over a year now, and I have finally decided to join Kickstarter and put my game up for the world to see.

WHAT IS GET TO THE ORANGE DOOR?

Great question! Get To The Orange Door started as what was supposed to be a one or two week long game jam. It was supposed to span 13 levels and be all about destroying mounted turrets and getting to the orange door at the end of each level.

As you can tell, lots has changed.

Over the last year, it has evolved into so much more than that. I have introduced parkour and player abilities like cloning yourself and using electric fields. Things like slo-mo, a staple of FPS games now-a-days, also got a re-do, having it effect player momentum and dashes after the effect is turned off. I added rouge like elements and gun vending machines like Grab-A-Guns, as well as instantly loading levels and super powerful weapons. GTTOD is really the love child of many genres and games, all hidden behind the simple goal of reaching the Orange Door.

I think you should always be educated before putting your money towards something. This is why I have created a free demo of the game for Windows (working on Mac and Linux). It is in a very early access state, but I believe it shows what direction the game is heading in pretty well. It is worth a shot to try it out, and I think it will help you decide whether or not to donate to my Kickstarter!

Obviously, the end goal is to make a GTTOD that is much more enjoyable, polished, and professional than the current demo. I highly suggest you try it out, and if you would like to leave feedback, it always helps the formation and progression of the game!

WHY KICKSTART?

Over the coming weeks, I have redesigned many of the core concepts of GTTOD, basically starting from scratch. In doing this, I have seen the potential of GTTOD fully unmesh itself, and so have many of the people in the community over on my subreddit, www.reddit.com/r/GTTOD/

With new systems being implemented on a daily basis, I want to extend the development life cycle of GTTOD, and work on it more than I have in the past.

However, this comes with many problems. I simply do not have the funds necessary to continue working on GTTOD as much as I have been. This is why I am here, to reach out and publicly fund GTTOD, ultimately creating a superior product in the end!

To me, developing GTTOD has been a huge part of my life for the last year, and I want to get even more involved with it in the coming months. I want to take GTTOD to a whole new level, and to do that, I need the help of all of you.

Going on kickstarter will enable me access to many assets that were far beyond my reach in the past. Things like professional animators and composers, as well as more voice acting for a story mode, and even access to networks for multiplayer and more. All of these are things that I think could benefit GTTOD greatly, and each give me more room to improve on things like level design and polish.

  • Extra polish on all core mechanics. This means things ranging from parkour physics to camera sway. Anything and everything that can be improved
  • Full story mode, not just a backstory
  • More enemy types
  • Multiplayer and co-op
  • Open world area to explore online
  • More bonus modes to add to the replayability of GTTOD
  • More weapon animations
  • More options in settings and pause menus
  • Full Steam API integration
  • More open and polished levels
  • A full, unique soundtrack
  • More weapons

  • An overall amazing game

For these reasons I ask for Kickstarter's help. Alone I can only accomplish so much, but with the help of others so many more possibilities are open and ready to explore.

However, there is on last thing I would like to talk about. Within the next few weeks, I will be opening GTTOD up for alpha testing. For any backers, this will be available. I will personally send you a Steam key and you can own the game right then and there, receiving regular updates all the way up until launch.

Of course, for those of you who do not want to be a part of the alpha and would rather wait, that too is an option.

Risks and challenges

Akkash Thakkar, a sound designer working on Hyperlight drifter once summed up game development really really well. He said:

"Game Development is basically just a group of people failing upwards until something good happens"

I think this is a great expression. Of course there are risks, not just talking about funding goals. Being realistic, anything could happen. However, I have over a year of working on GTTOD to tell you that nothing ever breaks for long. Any one of my fans over on reddit could tell you that lots has changed and adapted in GTTOD. Each one of these changes comes with it's own set of risks, but with enough determination, anything can be fixed, and any issue can be solved, and I am determined more than ever to make the best possible game I can make.
