Interview with the author:
Q: You've been a teacher since 2006. Why the leap now to become an author?
April: I've always wanted to be an author and have loved reading and writing stories but I never believed that I could make a career out of it. Since teaching offered so many amazing opportunities to work with children and literature, it seemed like a great match......especially when I was hired on as a teacher-librarian and got to be surrounded by books everyday! I finally decided to put my pen to paper again when my daughter, Piper, wanted me to start writing down the stories that I make up for her. She felt that other children would enjoy them and that I should "stay at home with us and write stories all of the time." I can't argue with that. It sounds like absolute bliss ; )
Q: What makes you confident that your stories will be received well?
April: I'm a teacher-librarian and a mom. I've written dozens of book reviews, read thousands of children's books, and have advised readers (both young and old) for over 11 years. I know what ignites the imagination and delights young readers.
Q: How is the project going so far?
April: Smashingly! The manuscript has been finalized and over half of the illustrations are complete. I am in contact with my illustrator daily and we are having a blast collaborating on this project. I am confident this project will be wrapped up before the Kickstarter Campaign wraps up.
Q: Is there anything that you'd like potential backers to know?
April: I'd like them to know that I am tenacious. I won’t give up my dream of becoming an author and inspiring young minds with this great story – and the many more to come!
Risks and challenges
At this point most of the risks and challenges are behind us. The story is written and the manuscript is finalized. The illustrations are half-way completed. A publisher is lined up.......
The donations will go to cover the costs of self-publishing and costs of this Kickstarter. Costs include layout, paperback binding, hard cover binding, front and back cover development, e-book development, distribution through Amazon, an initial run of books for donor rewards, payment of processing fees, etc.
This project is set and ready to go! We just need the final funds to give our book wings. It’s up to you to be part of this success story!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
