What is a Pennypult?
The Pennypult is miniature siege weapon. By definition, it is a trebuchet or a gravity-powered catapult. The kit comes with everything you need to build your very own desk sized trebuchet. All you need is a flat surface and 16 pennies. We believe the Pennypult is a step above the other trebuchet kits on the market. It's smaller, easier to build, and more fun. Additionally, it has a unique design that you won't find anywhere else.
The Pennypult gets its special look from the stacked counterweight design. Unlike a traditional trebuchet, the counterweight is positioned above the throwing arm. In addition to having a unique throwing action, it actually increases the throwing distance. The Pennypult can throw a projectile up to 35ft! Not bad for a machine that stands only 9 inches tall. Did we mention it's easy to load and fire? You won't have to deal with finicky slings, tangled lines, or misfires with this one.
Constructing a working trebuchet has never been easier. A Pennypult can be constructed in under 15 minutes and without the use of tools. It requires no glue, no sanding, and no knowledge of woodworking. The precision laser-cut pieces will simply snap together. Its other pieces are made of brass, copper, rubber, and acrylic. You wont be disappointed with the quality of a Pennypult.
What's it good for?
The Pennypult is great for people of all ages. It's a physics experiment, a toy, and a piece of art. Stage your own small-scale medieval battles. Or, bring it to the office and lay siege to your coworker's desk. In any scenario, you will enjoy both constructing and displaying this medieval weapon. The Pennypult makes a fantastic gift. Inception & Team
The Pennypult is designed and produced in Los Angeles California by Apptivus. Apptivus is a small group of entrepreneurs and creatives who enjoy bringing their ideas to life. We only build things that are fun so you wont be disappointed with this product. The team consists of Aaron Geisler, Lena Kim, Kris Zalameda, EJ Coughlin, Eric Janowski, and Catherine Hontos. We've worked hard to bring you the most polished product possible.
The first Pennypult was created in January 2015. Since then, it has gone through countless iterations and improvements. Months later, we had something we were really proud of. We did our first production run in May and received positive feedback from friends and family. At that point, we decided we should take the project to KickStarter. After producing our promotional video, we are now ready to launch. Our goal is to raise $2,000 from August to September. This will allow us to produce kits a volume that keeps the price low for our backers. After fundraising ends in September, we will being fulfilling orders throughout the month of November.
Should I Get One?
Yes! You will love the Pennypult.
Risks and challenges
We would consider the project risk level to be low. The product is built and thoroughly tested. Over 40 kits have been assembled to date. There is some risk due to manufacturing defects. However, this has not been a major issue. The laser cutting is proving to be consistent and precise. The more difficult part of the project will be preparing and shipping kits. Rest assured, we have processes in place to ensure timely delivery at or before our target fulfillment date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
