Emu Ranchers is a two player card game where Ranchers try to collect the biggest pens of emus (or sets of cards) while attempting to keep their opponent from doing the same. It’s a light game that can be learned in about 5 minutes and played in about 20, but it also has enough strategy to keep people playing for hours.
Emu Ranchers is played much like Gin Rummy, with players collecting and playing sets of cards to earn points. Each new set costs 18 points to play, so adding more cards to the set throughout play to offset this cost is essential. The challenge comes from the fact that your opponent is fighting you for the same cards you need, often times stealing those cards right from under your nose. At the end of the round, players count up their points and the Rancher with the highest profit wins.
It’s an easy game to learn and play, but don’t be fooled by the simple gameplay. You’ll quickly realize the depth of strategy in Emu Ranchers. It’s a fun game of keeping your options open, taking risks, and seeing the same cards in a new light. To win, you’ll find yourself wanting to hold cards for a better play, but having to play cards so you don’t get stuck.

What People are Saying
“The cards and icons are all thematic and the colors are crisp and solid [...] The Child Geeks had a great time with Emu Ranchers and players as young as 6-years-old were able to play the game by themselves and make a profit off their Emu Pens. [...] The game plays very well, is challenging, engaging, and best of all, fun for the Parent Geeks.”
“[Emu Ranchers is] an enjoyable, yet casual game. It’s a good game to pull out when you just want to relax and enjoy a quick card game.”
Board Game Quest
“If you want to get [a game] that travels well, and that’s colorful, and quite frankly, the emus are very cute [...] I give it a green light. I like the way it plays.”
On Board Games
"I should have you know that the title of this game alone — Emu Ranchers — puts a nerdy grin on my face, but that pales in comparison to the terrific fun I had while playing this light, yet highly strategic two-player card game."
Scott Bogen, The Board Game Show
"Emu Ranchers is a gem of a game that manages to play very fast yet remain incredibly satisfying [...] I'd rather play Emu Ranchers than get punched in the face."
"The art is so endearing and goofy that some of my friends who usually don't much care for games saw the peturbed emu on the cover and reading the title, requested playing it. Who wouldn't want to be Emu Ranchers?"
We believe that gaming brings people together. In a day and age where people spend more and more time staring into their phones and “friending” people they’ve never met, games like Emu Ranchers are an opportunity for people to connect one-on-one, enjoy conversation, and just have fun together. App Sauce Labs is all about creating experiences that make people smile, and Emu Ranchers fits perfectly with that goal.
Our Pledge to Our Supporters
We take your support seriously. After all, we could never do this without you! When you back us on Kickstarter, we’ll make sure you get your rewards before the game becomes available to the general public, and we’ll do our utmost to keep you informed of our progress along the way: from development, to production, to shipping, to general release. We’re huge fans of our supporters, and we want to make you huge fans of what we do.
Risks and challenges
There are always a lot of details when it comes to producing a game, manufacturing all the parts, and getting it all shipped out the door. We’ve been working hard to stay ahead of the challenges so we can make it the best experience for you, our supporters.
We face the intricacies of getting the card sets printed, boxed up and shipped. With our professional experience in graphic design, we’ve worked with printers before. To make sure we can deliver on our commitment, we’ve already printed dozens of prototype decks with our rough art using a vendor that we know can manufacture thousands of decks when it comes time for our production fulfillment.
As with any project, unexpected challenges can arise in addition to the usual challenges. As we state in our pledge above, we promise to keep you informed as things progress, and we’ll let you know if anything unexpected arises and how we’ll be addressing it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
