The 5 Dove-rated Christmas classic, updated for a 2013 wide release to the trade/Christian markets. Features 2 new pages of story art.
Please note: The project video is the official trailer for the first edition of Billy Tucci's A Child is Born. This Kickstarter is for the revised and rebranded edition--featuring two new pages of stunning story art--releasing to wide trade and Christian distribution in Fall 2013.
The Greatest Story Ever Told Has a Beginning…
In 2011, Apostle Arts and Eisner Award-nominee, Billy Tucci, shook the comic book world with their release of Billy Tucci's A Child is Born, a stunningly illustrated rendition of the birth of Jesus Christ. This number one retailer-ranked backlist comic book for January, 2012 went on to receive six Comics Buyer's Guide Award nominations and a 5-Dove rating from The Dove Foundation.
In 2012, in response to the ongoing demand, Apostle Arts released A Child is Born as a beautiful hardcover gift edition to the direct comic book market and a few key trade retailers.
Now, it's time to go BIG...
Beginning with the 2013 Christmas season, A Child is Born will be revised and rebranded for wide release to the general trade and Christian book markets.
Featuring two new pages of beautiful story illustrations and an updated title that will help lay the groundwork for future works, Apostle Arts Presents...A Child is Born will take another huge step toward becoming one of the best-selling Christmas books of all time.
But we need your help!
In addition to 2012 trade partners, Christian Book Distributors (CBD) and Family Christian Stores, Apostle Arts has received a commitment from Barnes & Noble to stock the book nationwide in 2013. We have also been invited back to Sam's and Walmart to discuss a possible place in their 2013 Christmas lineup. Costco, Lifeway, and others are also on the list for 2013 solicitations.
To be ready for the spring 2013 buying season (when retail buyers pre-order Christmas titles), we need to revise our current edition, add Billy Tucci's two new pages of beautiful artwork, and then order a print run large enough to provide buyer samples and cover the first run of expected orders.
As you can imagine, the unit cost of a hardcover book is significantly more than that of a traditonal comic book. Apostle Arts has been fortunate to be entirely self-financed through it's first two seasons, but to meet the printing demands of a truly nationwide trade and Christian release, we're going to need your support.
Please take a look at all of our great Kickstarter offers and decide how you want to be a part of this mission. We have opportunities from $2 to $1000, and most of them include a first run copy of the revised A Child is Born hardcover, as well as some other goodies.
And if you're an existing fan of Billy Tucci, don't miss the two exclusive Billy Tucci Eats Crow Packs. In appreciation of Billy's comic book fans from the other side of the aisle, get an exclusive signed special edition Tucci lithograph presidential portrait of Barack Obama, "The Man of Our Times." (Original art also available.)
Thank you for helping make Apostle Arts Presents...A Child is Born an even more beautiful Christmas tradition to share with friends and family for years to come.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The good new is the bulk of the production work for "Apostle Arts Presents...A Child is Born" is complete. We do have to create two new pages of story art, revise the cover and afterword, and put the book through another round of editing.
Much of the new costs will be in printing. The smaller the quantity, the higher the cost per unit. We anticipate the samples to be fairly expensive, and then the first round of books for the channel to even out.
We need to print samples in January so we'll have them in February to prepare for the spring buying season. Timelines are tight, and with servicing the 2012 Christmas market still a priority, we need to ensure we are moving forward at a steady pace.
