Our Theatrical Release!!

Dear Friends,

It’s been a long, long time since we started making A Place to Stand, almost 5 years now, but we are overjoyed and so excited to announce that we have partnered with Gathr Films to bring A Place to Stand to theaters this fall.

Gathr has a unique model for theatrical screenings, one similar to how Kickstarter funds projects. Gathr takes a grassroots, people-powered approach where our supporters host screenings in their hometowns and they, with our and Gathr’s support, work to fill the theater with ticket pre-sales. The screenings then only happen if a certain number of tickets are sold.

Our experience with the film and Jimmy’s work is that word-of-mouth is the strongest way to build buzz and excitement around the project. Gathr’s approach fits this reality like a glove. In our theatrical screenings so far (at festivals and special events), people have responded to the movie in such a deep and powerful way. There is simply no substitute for watching a movie in a dark theater, sharing a powerful, emotional journey with one hundred or two hundred other people, and we are grateful for this opportunity to bring that experience to others.

To give you a taste of the A Place to Stand theatrical experience, check out this video with highlights from our world premieres:

Calling All Movie Captains!

Over the past year, we have been screening A Place to Stand at festivals around the country and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are so much looking forward to expanding the film’s reach with our partnership with Gathr, but to be successful we need your help.

What exactly do we need? We need people to host screenings and become “movie captains”, to become ambassadors for the film. If you feel even the slightest interest in joining our team in this way, please call Karen DeCotis, our outreach coordinator, at 406-600-0918 or email us at We can chat, share some more information, and see about working together. It requires a commitment, but you won't be alone. You will join a community of vibrant, passionate people working to share our film with the world (and there are some sweet perks too!).

We look forward to connecting with you and moving forward together to bring Jimmy’s powerful story to the masses. Thanks again for all of your support. We're so close!!

With Gratitude,
The A Place to Stand Team

Albuquerque's Premiere (and more!)

Hello Backers!

We are very excited to announce that A Place to Stand will be premiering in Albuquerque as a part of the Albuquerque Film and Music Experience this Friday, June 5th at 7:30 PM. It will be screening at the KiMo Theatre and you can obtain tickets here:

We ask you to please pass this on to anyone you know who might be interested. This is the first time we're showing the film in the city we made it so we want to pack the theater tight!

In other news, we've been screening at various other festivals - the Illuminate Film Festival in Sedona last week (see picture above) and the Maui Film Festival this week - as well as smaller private venues. We're still hunting for distribution so the film isn't publicly available yet, but we aim to release it as soon as possible, hopefully late summer or in the fall. When we figure that out, you all will be the first to know!

In addition to the film, we have developed a curriculum that goes along with the film. This curriculum is for a variety of populations (teens, adults, the incarcerated, for students of poetry, for the Hispanic community and so on). It has gotten glowing reviews from high schools who have used it so we're stoked to start getting that out there in a wider way - once we release the film.

That's all for now! We look forward to the day when we can finally birth this baby into the wider world. For now, though, the game is patience and delayed gratification.

With Gratitude,
The A Place to Stand Team

Rewards and More

Dear Friends -

Two weeks ago we packed your rewards and sent DVDs and posters to you! Here's some proof!

It was a great pleasure to hold those DVDs of A Place to Stand and know that it was because of you we were getting to pack them up and send them out. So big thanks once again.

Also in the news - Campbell, our Outreach Coordinator, is in NYC taking the next steps towards getting the film out into the world! This is him in the midst of the reward-packing haze:

Our vision now is to make use of A Place to Stand as an educational vehicle for all kinds of people in many venues. We are building a team to make the film and an adjoining curriculum available in schools, prisons, detention centers, rehab facilities, and anywhere people can use inspiration from the film, around the U.S. We still feel strongly the journey of Jimmy is a story that could change lives and grow artists.

We are looking for grassroots, development and financial supporters to join our movement for 2015. We want this to be big and we would love for you to be a part of it in any capacity you're willing and interested.

Are you in the NYC area? Can you meet with Campbell in New York? You can join Campbell for Coffee at Starbucks in Union Square tomorrow, 10/30! Lattes courtesy of Catamount.

Campbell is also able to meet privately with interested supporters within the next couple of days, and to speak via phone for those elsewhere. Please email to meet or set up a call with him.

Hope to see you in New York!

With Gratitude,
The A Place to Stand Team
