About this project
For the past two years, Life & Thyme has been publishing stories on a weekly basis, covering food culture and the people behind it, exclusively on our website. These are stories about real people that work tirelessly in order to feed us.
We have interviewed chefs, bakers, restaurateurs, farmers, coffee roasters, cocktail makers, handcrafted apron makers, all sorts of purveyors, or even grandmothers that contribute a masterful skill to the food, beverage, and hospitality industry from around the globe—whether it be in a professional kitchen or someone's home. Our content is typically long-form with an editorial sensibility and focused on people, rather than the latest trend on a plate. Storytelling is our mantra, while also executing original photography and filmmaking on an online platform dedicated to a variety of content related to food and its lifestyle.
Through a global network of hand-selected and talented contributors, our stories and content go beyond our home state of California and into other culinary destinations such as New York, Nashville, Austin, Portland, Chicago, Mexico, Colombia, Rwanda, Scotland, Taiwan, Turkey, Japan, India, and many others. We are constantly looking to collaborate with talented creatives in order to showcase their work and knack for storytelling. Where there is good food, there is culture and stories to be told.
The Next Chapter: Life & Thyme going to print.
There will always be something special about a beautifully designed print publication. Whether it’s the smell of ink on paper or simply the opportunity to shift our gaze away from a screen, print offers a certain tactile sensation that an online experience simply never can. So we want to extend Life & Thyme’s timeless culinary stories into the real world, by creating a quarterly print magazine that offers fresh and new content about the people that drive the food world forward.
The Life & Thyme Magazine will be printed in full-color on a high quality paper stock, run between 96 to 120 pages, and is projected to publish on a quarterly basis across the globe.

In order to prove the concept and to show a prototype, we created a 64 page ISSUE ZERO of what the Life & Thyme Magazine will look like and feel like in printed form. An incredibly limited print run was made for this issue which includes some of our favorite stories from lifeandthyme.com. Such stories include: a Chef Portrait on Ludo Lefebvre, Hay Rosie Ice Cream Co. out of Brooklyn, Kimisagara Market out of Rwanda, Guerrilla Tacos out of LA, a trip to the Santa Monica farmers market with a Michelin-starred chef, a photo essay on Taipei's night markets, and other great stories.
Starting at the $50 pledge, you can get your hands on a digital copy of Issue Zero. However, we have only TWO printed copies to give away. They will never be sold and they're reserved for any two incredibly generous $1500 pledgers. We're not kidding on the limited print run. Risks and challenges
Releasing a printed publication is a pretty ambitious endeavor that we're willing to tackle on. We are so serious about it that we created an Issue Zero to work out the design kinks, create a layout/style system, and even went ahead and invested in an initial print run. We love testing concepts and proving a big idea can be executed, so we've already established a great relationship with our selected printer. We also have a proven track record of creating content efficiently and at our highest standard of quality.
