This project is a weekend-long outdoor live-action game, in Northeastern Connecticut, on the weekend of October 12th-14th (2012).
- Note: Pledges of $95 or more include printed rules and character creation booklet (and free shipping with the US). This bonus is only available on Kickstarter until April 9th.
We've been running and playing live-action games (aka LARPs) since 1989. They have ranged from single-afternoon games for kids, to campaign worlds lasting almost 20 years.
Over this time, our favorite games were the intense weekend-long spectacles at a large outdoor site. The ones where the plot played center stage, not the rules. Where you could do great things and take decisive action. Where you were surrounded by danger in many forms, and you were proud to survive until Sunday afternoon.
With Kickstarter funding and more than 6 months of planning, we have the time and money we need to create the ultimate experience of this type: one that is worthy of your time and money.
Use Of Funds
The Kickstarter money will cover site rental (a private 350-acre camp in Northeast Connecticut), and put us well on our way to filling the game with dynamic and enthusiastic players and cast. We already have thousands of dollars worth of props and costumes, so this money goes towards this project, not building up a storehouse of equipment.
As an upgrade on our past games, we will be mailing packets to every player two weeks before the game, describing key people, places and artifacts in the game world. So when you show up on Friday night, you already have important information in your hands, and you can hit the ground running.
After the game, we'll publish a printed program, like we would for a theatrical event, celebrating the great accomplishments of our writers, players and cast.
The Future Of This Project
This game is the beginning of a 3-year campaign. However, we are currently focused on this year, culminating in a great weekend-long event.
1. Choose the level at which you'd like to sign up, as if it was just one person. For example, make a pledge at the $95 dollar level to sign up as a player.
2. On the next page, change the amount. If you wanted to sign up two people at $95, change the amount to "$190.00".
3. You're done. You could send us a message reminding us that the amount is for a group of 2 or more. But we're pretty smart. We'll figure it out.
Make a pledge equal to the total dollar amount of the reward levels. On the pledge selection page, choose the least expensive reward.
Example: If you would like to pledge at the $95 level (FULL ADMISSION) and the $35 level (HERO), make a pledge of $130. When selecting a pledge level, choose 'HERO'. We'll calculate the difference ($95) and reserve a spot at that level.
No. With the unemployment rate still near 8%, that pledge amount is for anyone having trouble affording the 'FULL ADMISSION'. However, the number of spots at that price are limited.
At our first event, 53% of the players were male, 47% were female. The youngest was 14 and the oldest was 45. About 60% choose to play "fighters" of some sort, and the rest build their characters around other http://www.anstarra.com/charactercreation.html.
