THE LEIGHTON EXPLOSION is a poetry/prose/poetry book I've written through my entire teenage and adult life. The book will also include a collection of foreword by Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull fame.
This Kickstarter campaign runs through March 27, which is my father's birthday. I'm doing the Kickstarter campaign to publish THE LEIGHTON EXPLOSION with a Canadian company who promises to get it into the schools. I'll be performing my poems in five markets in addition to the Bronx and Manhattan: Buffalo, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and possibly Canada, so I'll be hooking up with a Bronx area musician.
I'm updating my blog at http://workinggalrockandroll.blogspot.com/ with poetry, and writing up real simple videos where you get to see the glam and glitter of my home-- where I write most of my poems, and you'll also get to meet my cats.
This campaign is a lot of fun for me. One of the cool rewards is we get to talk on the phone or on SKYPE and then I'll write a poem for you, and perform it on an MP3 and CD, and mail it to you. Another reward is where you would get a new copy of my upcoming indie book release: GET THE GIGS (COMMON SENSE CAREER CREATING). It shows how you can create opportunities for yourself, and will be available as a PDF file or in a looseleaf binder. And I can do a consultancy with you on something in your career that's related to your goals as an independent artist, musician, business person!
I also have a reward to give you PDF files of my favorite plays and screenplays that I wrote for $10.
I got my artists involved with this, and have autographed CDs or DVDs and photos from Jethro Tull, Grand Funk Railroad, the Strawbs, Joe Deninzon & Stratospheerius, Jann Klose, and former clients, as well! That package also includes a chat and a personalized poem, and other goodies for $750. now, because that's about all the campaign needs to make it now.
My favorite reward is a poetry workshop and reading with you and your students for the full goal of the campaign-- $1000., plus transportation and lodging.
Go through the different rewards, pick whatever you'd like. Also if you see something that a friend would like, such as me writing a poem for them, please encourage them to join my campaign.
Hopefully we'll all give each other some inspiration with this project!
Risks and challenges
As I think about my challenges in completing this project, I know I can't predict what the future will bring.
It's possible I won't go with my Canadian publisher and could publish THE LEIGHTON EXPLOSION on my own. It's possible I might die when I least expect it, which would suck. If so, I shall give to my brother Tim my vital statistics. He's got great ethics. He's a small town attorney who helps folks set up their businesses. http://www.lawbloomington.com/ Or hopefully my friends will put out the book, and help finish the prize rewards 'cause they understand I'm dedicated to my legacy! I'm always writing or spreading the word about my artists' music, the need for peace on earth, loving our neighbor, and spaying our dogs and cats! Long may I Rock!!!!
Everyone knows I love getting up in front of people to perform and that I can talk with anybody--I'm a publicist, I like people.
Some of my friends know that I'm recovering from Agoraphobia, and are wondering how I will be able to go to different parts of the Northeast in support of THE LEIGHTON EXPLOSION. Now--early 2013, I am at a very simple stage where I've been sometimes only moderately confused (and nothing more) on train platforms and in crossing streets (especially around two-way, three-way, and four-or-more-way) by myself. So I just breathe and think, and take my time crossing or wait till someone walks by, and I ask them for help. And then they tell me about someone they know who has anxiety, and I thank them.
Last year I was sobbing and having panic attacks on the streets AND in wide open spaces including sidewalks, even when other people were helping me--I've come a long way. I'm touring in this project, and I'll do it as I will have a fellow performer (a musician) with me. We'll watch each other's back.
You ask, "What if I don't find the musician right for my poetry?"
Well... read my poetry, watch my video, check out this site, and you'll understand my optimism, ambition, and the rest of me!
I'll find the musician, I know I can. :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
